Anything that follows a normal pattern still allows for an
automated system to find email addresses. Manual
obfuscation provides a wide variety and would prevent these
types of pattern matches.
It is arguable that spammers won't bother going to that effort
when there is so much low lying fruit on the net. But it is an
obvious way for spam service providers to differenciate
themselves. It will happen if it hasn't already.
