The PNG covers have incorrect print size, which makes
it harder to print since you have to find the right
scaling factor.

For instance, firemonger_front.png is 819 pixels wide.
At 72 dpi this works out to 28.89 cm, where it is
supposed to be approximately 12 cm. Other imaging
software use this 28 cm as the "original print size"
necessitating a manual rescale.

It looks like entering 150 dpi gives a better value.

What size and resolution do you recommend be used? If I
understand you correctly I can use these values to remake
the PNGs from the original vector files if you want. What
program are you using precisely to print them?

It doesn't matter which programme you use. I have tried
Adobe Photoshop, JASC Paint shop pro, Powerpoint, OOo
Impress, and Paint. The print size is supposed to be
    programme independent.

I think it's wise to keep the amount of pixels approximately
the same. The resolution is usually 72, 150 or 300 dpi:
    72 dpi = 28.347 pixels/cm
    150 dpi = 59.056 pixels/cm
    300 dpi = 118.11 pixels/cm
For the front CD cover of 20x20cm (please check) I would
    suggest 1182 x 1182 pixels at 150 dpi.

OK, I have taken the PNG files that are on the disk and set
the DPI to 150. CD covers are 12cm by 12cm so the file is
around 684x709 (the original is not perfectly square). I'll
attach the file and you tell me if that is right then I'll
do that with the rest of the files and commit.

Tell me if this is right for you.

This workes perfectly. When printing, I set the scale to
100%, print and done. Good work.

I'll do this to all the covers just resizing the current
images and commit. In future we should do this from the
actual SVG files for somewhat better quality.

I have committed the corrected front cover as it looks fine,
but unfortunately the more detailed back cover looks bad
when you resize it this way. I don't have the SVG with the
text that Nathaniel used to export this the rear png which
is necessary to another export to make it look good. Is
there any chance you could upload the SVGs with the text
onto here so that I can redo them and also just so that I
have a copy for future use.
    Cheers,

After a lot of trials, this should be the correct size:
    Front: 709x686 pixels @ 150 pixels/inch
    Back: 905x709 pixels @ 150 pixels/inch
    CD: 678x709 pixels @ 150 pixels/inch
These numbers are the exact numbers, perhaps using a few
    pixels bleed space is advisable.

Note the recurrence of the number 709. It follows that
    709/150.012 = 4.726 inch = 12.00 cm
That's why I hate useing inches with CD covers, since all
sizes are metric: 12x12,12x15cm etc. And the size of the CD
hole is...the size of a 10 (guilder)cent coin. All of this
because the specifications were made by Philips from
    Eindhoven, the Netherlands.

    Case closed. ;-)
