Not sure that I have time to help, but most of my documentation stuff is actually web pages at the moment. The http://home.lsces.co.uk/Firebird/Using_Firebird.html I'm working full tilt on the Tikipro package at the moment, which will provide me with a tiki style content management package, but more important a framework to add all of my Client Management System onto. I've got the current version to a level where people are happy with it, but now they want the 'notes management' which the tiki like package will provide 'off the shelf'. The reserved word list is still my best demo of that http://lscraid/TikiPro/wiki/index.php?page=Firebird+Words+Reference The recent updates by the PostgeSQL people have broken the Firebird build and I was not keeping up with things so had not noticed until this week :( I've a few days in which I can get on and sort it out now :) -- Lester Caine ----------------------------- L.S.Caine Electronic Services |

Hi Helen, > Can someone using the Konqueror browser check the forwarded report > below, please? My guess Fred's problem might be a javascript one. I think it's Konquerer's JavaScript implementation. The problem Fred describes has been there since the bird graphic and top menus were replaced months ago, and it never went away. It stopped me from accessing the site (other than the homepage) under Linux, until I installed Firefox. > Right now, I'm looking at an OK rendering from IE6 and two instances > from Firefox. > > 1) got via http://www.firebirdsql.org, the main header graphic is > missing, everything else is there > 2) got via http://firebird.sourceforge.net, everything is there. I opened them both in Firefox (0.9/Win), and they are both complete, including the graphic. Can someone using the Konqueror browser check the forwarded report below, please? My guess Fred's problem might be a javascript one. fwiw, sourceforge's http was behaviing weirdly a few hours ago, timeouts, etc., and IE6 "lost" the stylesheet. Firefox had the right stylesheet but would load up some pieces and not others (randomly, e.g. on one hit, the top menu was missing; on another, the top menu loaded but the firebird logo loaded and then disappeared...) Right now, I'm looking at an OK rendering from IE6 and two instances from Firefox. 1) got via http://www.firebirdsql.org, the main header graphic is missing, everything else is there 2) got via http://firebird.sourceforge.net, everything is there. thks Helen >To: fir...@us... >From: Fred Vos <vo...@us...> >Date: Tue, 07 Sep 2004 14:42:42 -0700 >Subject: [Firebird-admin] [Firebird-contact] Website unusable with >konqueror browser > >Hello, > > > >For users of the Konqueror browser (part of KDE) it is > >impossible to use the website www.firebirdsql.org. Hi, Somebody asked here for a Firebird logo in vector format. I have traced the original image in OpenOffice.org. In attachment you will find WMF export of that picture, but if you wish, I can send you original XSD file. Roman |

Hi, I always have problems when opening our site - the "Firebird(tm)" image loads few seconds and this process is visible to others (I have 2Mbit DSL line, so my connection is not the reason). In attachment you will find an optimized image from our main page. I think it makes sense to use indexed palette and image of the 6k size instead of 42k RGB image. Thanks! Roman |

Pavel, I would like to create a symlink "manual" in htdocs pointing to devel/doc/manual/defaulthtml (or maybe just to devel/doc/manual). This way the main index of the manual docs could be given as http://www.firebirdsql.org/manual/ instead of http://www.firebirdsql.org/devel/doc/manual/defaulthtml/ Is that OK with you? Good idea, but it seems that we would double the effort of IBPhoenix, that recently started such page, see http://www.ibphoenix.com/main.nfs?a=ibphoenix&page=ibp_users_firebird Maintaining such page on both sites is pointless for me (and no, I have nothing with IBP website :-), so linking it from FB website would be better. I'm going to put it on my to-fo list for our website. Best regards -- Pavel |

Hi all, Almost two weeks ago there was talk in firebird-support about placing Firebird success stories, enthusiastic user comments etc. on the website. (Thread: "Firebird is just a showoff!") I think this would be very good to give people an impression of what Firebird can achieve. One guy (Kevin) replied to a success story posted by Lee Jenkins: > This sounds awesome and will help me "sell" Firebird to potential > but skeptical customers. Shall we pick this up and create a page / pages for material like this? I'll copy part of the firebird-support thread underneath. Greetings, Paul Vinkenoog From: Lee Jenkins <le...@da...> Subject: [firebird-support] Firebird is just a showoff! We just installed our company's POS software recently at a large resort. I posted about this project recently in this list. I was so pleased with some news that I received today, that I thought it appropriate to share it with the list. Right now is a very busy time at this client site because of a yearly event taking place at this resort which is very popular. This site has: * FB1.5 On 2Ghz P4, SCSI, 1 Gig RAM running on Win2003. * 35 POS terminals positioned around the property at various bar, restaurant and kiosk profit centers. Networking (believe it not) is 10/100 Cat 5 and some of the runs are pretty long. Personally, I thought they should have gone with Fiber... At any rate, today was one of the busiest days of the year. There was a over 18,000 sales transactions posted today and the system didn't even blink! To me, that is an incredible amount of data/activity. Just imagine; each sale involves an average of say, 5 line items for over 90,000 additional inserts. And that is not even counting database activity for discounts, voids, employee clock ins, back office work and reporting, payment tenders and all the other peripheral activity including thousands of selects to present data to the users through touch screen GUI. I'm smiling like a cheshire cat.... Thanks for a great product. From: Jacob Alberty <cal...@co...> Subject: Re: [firebird-support] Firebird is just a showoff! I can provide a success story as well, FireBird is powering one of the largest veterinary clinics in louisiana, I believe based on the rabies tags they give out they are #1 and top both #2 and #3 combined, and the salesman selling the rabies vaccinations said they are in the top 10 for the us as well, the slowest systems are 128mb ram with a 533 mhz via procesccor and the server is a lowly 1gb ram and 800mhz pentium 3 with a 10k rpm scsi hard drive and it handles the system without a hitch, in all there are about 15 computer accessing, no word on how many transactions per day but if you guys are interested i can certainly dig up more information on it. the previous database for the system was a simple paradox db |

Hi Volker, > are there any known issues if Firebird 1.5 is used by web providers? > (...) > if this is the wrong NG, please point me to the right one. I think this group is for discussing the Firebird project website. But even if I'm wrong, the traffic here is extremely low so your question may remain unanswered for a looooong time ;-) Maybe it's better to ask your question in firebird-support or (for PHP-specific stuff) firebird-php. Hi all, are there any known issues if Firebird 1.5 is used by web providers? I would like to suggest to some providers that they offer FB, but of course i do not know all of the possible issues. What comes to mind is - security issues - remote administration - preferred architecture (SS, CS) - other ? if this is the wrong NG, please point me to the right one. tia, Volker |
