The A record should be enough for us. Roman |

Please read my message in firebird-admin. This change has unearthed many worms! The worst is that it has required us to change our DNS servers for *everything* (not just the jaybirdwiki subdomain). The change is reputed to happen within three days (from today). From the online help at stargate, it also seems that the change to the jaybirdwiki subdomain will not take effect unless we have BOTH an A record and a CNAME record. According to them, the A record must be present as "glue" for the domain name resolution. Currently there is only the CNAME record. So please decide which IP address you want to have in the A record. We can change it later if you move the destination server again... Helen |

You can see the difference by checking the "news" column on the left - old version contains thee dots on the beginning, while new one doesn't. OK, here's what I think has happened.... Originally Stargate's interface was very "raw" - they had a domain management console that one accessed via ones Internic nick and password. Mark O. knew my Internic login and I think it was he who set up this sub-domain after the conference in 2003 (or might have been 2004). Does this ring a bell? Since then, Stargate cleaned up their act and consolidated all of the domains that are owned by my nick. They replaced the old console with a new (totally different) one, from which I can access all of the domains. In the process, they failed to transfer the DNS Management feature, hence DNS management is not showing any sub-domains. (The fact that jaybirdwiki.firebirdsql.org has continued to work indicates however that the sub-domain record, probably an A record, must exist *somewhere*!) I just bought a 5-year pack of DNS Management records (50 records). The jaybirdwiki record didn't show up anywhere at all (you can set them up as CNAME, A, plus a choice of other options). I have added jaybirdwiki.firebirdsql.org as a CNAME record pointing to jaybird.rokytskyy.de, and it was accepted. So - the acid test now is whether I have broken the old record. Can you test it out please? Helen |

So, you have to figure out, how did it happen. When you update, please use jaybirdwiki.firebirdsql.org. 3600 IN CNAME jaybird.rokytskyy.de. which will ensure that in the future we will not need to update firebirdsql.org records when jaybirdwiki server is changed. I always thought that it was Sean who made that entry, but since you "own" firebirdsql.org, I'm no longer sure. dig returns that authoratitative name server is nevarsin.de (my host), which is at least very strange, since: - I cannot find anything in our name server about it (only virtual host in my apache config); - it would mean that I have stolen subdomain, which I doubt to be possible. I will check it further and will report it here. Roman |

I can't find any way to do this. From the domain name, it looks as though it should be a subdomain of firebirdsql.org, but it's not showing anywhere in the admin interface (the search informs me that firebirdsql.org has no subdomains). I can purchase DNS Management as a separate product and set up the subdomain, but I'm reluctant to do this in case I stuff it up altogether. The fact that it works tells us that it's registered *somewhere*. Can you look into this and find out where your DNS is being served from? Whois doesn't reveal anything useful - it just returns the Internic data for the firebirdsql.org domain... Helen |

Hi, Because of migration to a new server, please update DNS entry for jaybirdwiki.firebirdsql.org. New IP address is 213.239.211.73. So, either change entry to jaybirdwiki IN A 213.239.211.73 or to jaybirdwiki IN CNAME jaybird.rokytskyy.de. Both IP addresses will run together for some time, but the old one has problems with hard drive, so it might go offline any time. Thanks! Roman |

Hi Helen, Sorry for not answering so long - I just discovered that fb-website list is not checked automatically in my outlook express. > But how does this affect the download page? Currently you have download > links for 2.0.0 and 2.0.0a. Which ones should be removed? Both. In general, there should be only one visible point release, that's what I do in file release area. 2.0.0 and 2.0.0a go, 2.0.1 comes. So we 1.5.6, in theory you could also keep also 1.0.1, but that is not needed. Roman |

By default a .fdb database file (specific to Firebird) contains several tables, which means that if something happens to the .fdb file that will affect all the tables whithin the .fdb. What can I do, or how can I configure the Firebird server, so that the tables to be in distinct folders. Thank you ! |

Hi all, Are we still supposed to commit webpage alterations to CVS? (Please say Yes.) I'm asking because when I wanted to update a page yesterday, I noticed that some pages had been altered and not committed. This is risky because not everybody will make the doublecheck of doing a CVS update *and* checking the versions on the SF shell server. If you don't do the latter and pages have changed, updating them will undo any uncommitted changes. If you don't do *either* it's even worse! :-) (This has happened already.) There were also a number of new pages that haven't been added to the CVS tree at all. If we don't use CVS anymore, how do we avoid undoing each other's work? Greetings, Paul Vinkenoog PS I've committed the three altered pages in htdocs/doc/ now. Didn't touch the other stuff. |

Any page that accesses it (including our home page) will display this error when the database is down. However, it doesn't mean the site is down. If you can see the menus, you can access the rest of the site. Whether you see the error again depends on whether you go to a page that also uses the database... We haven't decided on a workaround for this problem yet, as we don't actually know at this point whether it's a permanent "feature" of the backend (DB2? MySQL?) or a temporary glitch due to SF's recent installation of new servers. Helen |

Hi Carlos, > In the .NET provider section of the firebird website: > > http://www.firebirdsql.org/index.php?op=devel&sub=netprovider > > > The mailing list information is incorrect, can anybody solve this > please ?? (i can solve it if somebody tells to me how :)) You've got to update the file devel/netprovider/project.dat Currently it contains this line: $lists = "fb-devel" ; If you change it, also check the directory lists/data: there must be a .dat file with the same basename as what you specify in the $lists var. If your list(s) ain't there, you have to create such file(s). You can use other .dat files as examples. Greetings, Paul Vinkenoog |
