Hi all, Is there a way to gain access to the Firebird Events using the standard IBPhoenix ODBC? Ionutz |

Heine, Jorge was not exactly precise. :-) There is no specific long-term ODBC development budget at Red Soft. 1) So on one side, ODBC driver development is currently driven by client requests. This is when I can become heavily involved. About half of ODBC bug fixes in builds since 145 are done because BroadView Software asked them done. So in my Open Source life right now I spend more time with the project which adds OLAP extensions and GUI to Firebird databases: http://olap-navigator.sourceforge.net/ 2) On the other side, although Alexander Potapchenko is heavily occupied with his primary responsibilities he has _volunteered_ to maintain public ODBC tree in shape and other guys at Murom lab (Roman Simakov, Dmitry Starodubov, and others) are kind to help him out. I believe the situation is quite similar for IBPhoenix too. So the situation with larger extensions (e.g. keyset cursors) remains the same. Either somebody contributes it when it is done, or it comes in a form of client's request. Jorge Andrés Brugger wrote: > See response to your mail from Nikolay Samofatov from 05/Sep/2008. Hi I saw on the Firebird web site that there's a new person responsible for the odbc driver development. Do you have any plans for implementing dynamic and keyset cursors? If so what sort of timeframe are we talking about? Dynamic and keyset cursors are very usefull in languages like vb and Access vba. Yes I know vb is outdated but Access vba will still be around for a long time. The company that I work for has a number of systems written in Access VBA. Thanks Heine Ferreira |

It looks like I've had 2.0.0.144. I've downloaded OdbcFb_DLL_Beta_2-0-0147_Win32.zip<http://www.red-soft.biz/files/downloads/odbc/OdbcFb_DLL_Beta_2-0-0147_Win32.zip>and replaced the DLL in my system32. Now the problem is gone, it works like a charm. Thanks for your reply. Not sure if this is the right place, but I've found a bug with OdbcParameter mapped to String column in SQL Query. My Environment: - Firebird-1.5.5.4926-3-Win32.exe - Firebird_ODBC_2.0.0-Win32.exe - Windows Vista Business 32bit - .Net Framework 3.5 Here's the testcase: === begin === [TestFixture] public class TestFirebirdOdbc { readonly Config config = new Config { DataSource = "localhost", Database = Environment.ExpandEnvironmentVariables( @"%PROGRAMFILES%\firebird\firebird_1_5\examples\employee.fdb"), GstatExecutable = @"%PROGRAMFILES%\firebird\firebird_1_5\bin\gstat.exe", UserName = "SYSDBA", Password = "masterkey" }; [Test] public void TestSimpleQuery() { var conn = FirebirdUtils.GetOdbcConnection(config); using (conn) { conn.Open(); var cmd = conn.CreateCommand(); cmd.CommandType = CommandType.Text; cmd.CommandText = "SELECT count(*) FROM SALES"; var result = (int)cmd.ExecuteScalar(); Assert.AreEqual(33, result); cmd = conn.CreateCommand(); cmd.CommandType = CommandType.Text; cmd.CommandText = "SELECT * FROM SALES"; using (var reader = cmd.ExecuteReader()) { while (reader.Read()) { for (int i = 0; i < 10; i++) { Console.Write(reader.GetName(i) + " = " + reader.GetValue(i) + "\t"); } Console.WriteLine(); } } } } [Test] public void TestQueryWithStringParameter() { var conn = FirebirdUtils.GetOdbcConnection(config); using (conn) { conn.Open(); var cmd = conn.CreateCommand(); cmd.CommandText = "SELECT count(*) FROM SALES WHERE PO_NUMBER = ?"; var param = cmd.CreateParameter(); param.Value = "V91E0210"; cmd.Parameters.Add(param); var result = (int)cmd.ExecuteScalar(); Assert.AreEqual(1, result); } } [Test] public void TestQueryWithBuiltinStringParameter() { var conn = FirebirdUtils.GetOdbcConnection(config); using (conn) { conn.Open(); var cmd = conn.CreateCommand(); cmd.CommandText = "SELECT count(*) FROM SALES WHERE PO_NUMBER = 'V91E0210'"; var result = (int)cmd.ExecuteScalar(); Assert.AreEqual(1, result); } } [Test] public void TestQueryWithIntParameter() { var conn = FirebirdUtils.GetOdbcConnection(config); using (conn) { conn.Open(); var cmd = conn.CreateCommand(); cmd.CommandText = "SELECT count(*) FROM SALES WHERE CUST_NO = ?"; var param = cmd.CreateParameter(); param.Value = "1004"; cmd.Parameters.Add(param); var result = (int)cmd.ExecuteScalar(); Assert.AreEqual(2, result); } } [Test] public void TestQueryWithBuiltinIntParameter() { var conn = FirebirdUtils.GetOdbcConnection(config); using (conn) { conn.Open(); var cmd = conn.CreateCommand(); cmd.CommandText = "SELECT count(*) FROM SALES WHERE CUST_NO = 1004"; var result = (int)cmd.ExecuteScalar(); Assert.AreEqual(2, result); } } } === end === All tests should pass, but TestQueryWithStringParameter fails. I've downloaded Firebird .Net Provider and use FbXXX interfaces instead of OdbcXXX. With FbXXX all the tests passed. Hope this will help. Regards, Dmitry Gusev |

You can enable ODBC trace in [ODBC Data Source administrator/Tracing]. In the trace log file there should be function calls [SQLDisconnect] for every [SQLDriverConnect]. There should not be such problem in this case. And more: 1) What protocol does you use (local or TPC/IP)? 2) What is a system crash? Blue screen? A while back I recall reading that there was a problem with Left Outer Join queries here. I was starting to test FB2 and then decided to wait until. I am presently still running FB 1.52/1.53 in production and am planning on starting process to migrate to FB 2.1.1. Has the LO Join problem been resolved? I use them alot in my app and in reports. I have downloaded FB 2.1.1 and have started some initial testing and will see what happens, but thought I would ask here about this. |

I am currently using Firebird ODBC 2.0.0144 on a variety of machines using Windows XP & Windows Vista. I have acquired another machine with Windows Vista 64 Ultimate and have a problem with connection. I upgraded this version to 2.0.0147 as this is the latest I can get but I still get the error. Open Database ..... Connection failed. Can you confirm if 2.0.0147 is vista 64 compliant. Can you suggest anything I can check or change to solve my error. If you require any further info please post. Many Thanks Simon |

Well ... I´m using it :) Redsoft is a "third party developer" but they are cooperating so good with main development efforts, particularly with the ODBC driver, which "official" developer (Vladimir) seems to have little time for continuing it (he does it for free, anyway :) Changes made by Redsoft are committed on the official cvs repository, so they aren't "third party" at least in this stage.
