No Alexander, I sent Gabriel here because this is an ODBC-specific question: someone needs to tell him how the ODBC driver implements SET TRANSACTION (gets handle, initialises handle) so that he can use it in his program. The docs refer to "declaring" a transaction (which is not in SQL) but they don't say what you have to do. >For Firebird 2.1 you need ODBC Driver V2.0 >(http://firebirdsql.org/index.php?op=files&id=odbc ><http://firebirdsql.org/index.php?op=files&id=odbc>) Thanks, Helen |

There does not seem to be a .lib file provided with the dll package. Is it possible to get one? I tried to make one (for VS2008) from the DLL using the procedure found in: http://support.microsoft.com/?id=131313 ... but I get connection errors at run time. Those errors are not there if I link my app with an older library and just drop the new DLL in place (so I am pretty sure the procedure didn't work). I know I can build it from sources... but then I also need to find the correct versions of firebird header files (ibase.h, iberror.h, etc). What version of these header files were used and should be used to build the odbcfb.dll? |

If I replace "call" for "execute procedure" works fine, comma included. Hi. I´ve a SP that receives a string (varchar) as parameter. It´s something like: CREATE PROCEDURE SP_EMITIR_PEDIDO_INTERNO ( sucursal smallint, numero_pedido_interno integer, usuario smallint, observaciones varchar(2500)) as begin /* do something */ exit; end From my app, I call it as: call SP_EMITIR_PEDIDO_INTERNO(1,1,1,'some string') and works fine. But it including a comma in string, like: call SP_EMITIR_PEDIDO_INTERNO(1,1,1,'some string, with a comma') it fails with "SQL Error code -104 Unexpected end of command - line 1, column 51" ¿Why? Thomas, Let's move this topic to olap-navigator-general. It is probably off-topic in firebird-odbc-devel. Please see my comments below. New tools appear and get abandoned in a matter of months. I'm not used to that from my Firebird experience :-) For ad-hoc OLAP browsing we use updated and heavily modified JRubik. Since the main repository of JRubik appears abandoned, I may put it into olap-navigator CVS if you are interested. Olap Navigator is not really an ad-hoc slicer dicer, although it would be easy to create one based on it, Instead Olap Navigator aims to be Data Warehouse GUI builder. The end product (defined in Olap Naviator resources) is geared not to sophisticated analysts, but to regular users. We also use pretty sophisticated ETL toolset for Firebird - Red Replicator. It is probably mis-named because replication logging is only a little part of its functionality. In data warehousing environment we use it to maintain materialized views across database links (via Firebird API, Oracle flashback/versions query, ODBC, or even FTP). I probably can open its source as well - this needs to be discussed with Sean Leyne of BroadView and Red Soft management, but I see no major obstacles for that either. > Thanks. > -- Nikolay Samofatov, MBA Red Soft International +1 416 710 6854 |

Hi, I'm new in firebird (Firebird-2.1.1.17910-0_Win32). I'm trying to migrate from MsSql. I'm promgraming in Clarion 6.3 and connecting to firebird via ODBC (Firebird_ODBC_1.2.0.69-Win32). In Mssql I open a Transaction sending: BEGIN TRAN Now I'm trying to open using: SET TRANSACTION But the server response: invalid transaction handle (expecting explicit transaction start) What am I doing wrong? |

The lack of a capable and modern looking OLAP client for Mondrian is IMHO one major drawback when comparing an Open Source OLAP solution with e.g. the Microsoft world (Analysis Services, ...). I've tried the JPivot based solution included in Mondrian. Well, a first start and possibly a solution for prototypical implementations for ad-hoc queries, but compared to commercial products it looks plain oldish. I've also tried the freely available JPalo 2.0 OLAP client which can interact with a XML/A server. It looks much more modern and a first try was encouraging with less data volume, but it went out to be VERY slow when working with larger data volumes. The web-based JPivot application was much more responsive in that case. So I have downloaded your OLAP navigator. I've deployed the .war file on my Apache Tomcat web server, but where to start now to get connected to my Mondrian cube? Do you know any other OLAP client with support for Mondrian? It does not need to be a web-based application. The Pentaho Spreadsheet Services might be a solution for an integration into Excel, but AFAIK it's rather expensive due to the mandatory Pentaho subscription. Another one I came across is IntraSight (http://www.activeinterface.com/intrasight.html). Ever tried that? Hello! I want to try ER/Studio with Firebird (2.0) so I need its ODBC driver. After looking for information in firebird support mailing lists, I see it is recommended to use version 2.0.148. Trying to download it from http://www.ibphoenix.com/main.nfs?page=ibp_60_odbc using right click and save as on Version 2.0 RC1 - Windows Full Install 32bit ( http://www.firebirdsql.org/download/prerelease/odbc/Firebird_ODBC_2.0.0.148_win32.exe ) I get an error window (in spanish, so this is a translation): Internet Explorer can not download ...bird_ODBC_2.0.0.148_win32.exe from www.firebirdsql.org. Internet Explorer can not open this Internet site. It is not available. Try it again later. Is there a mirror or any other site where I can download this version? It not, can I use version 1.2 (downloadee without any problems)? Thank you in advance for your help Puri Vidal |

Hi, BLOB text column is not transliteration with UTF8 connection. http://tracker.firebirdsql.org/browse/ODBC-44 I retry it with RC1(Build 148 ). My environment: - FB V2.0.4 - Client connection: UTF8 Case 1. Defaut charset: UTF8 - VARCHAR is fine - BLOB text is NOT fine. Case 2. Default charset: SJIS_0208(japanese charset) - VARCHAR is fine - BLOB text is fine. (Of cause, characters range is SJIS_0208 only) I think that result must be the same at UTF8 client connection. Why is a result different? -- Regards, Minoru Alexander Potapchenko <ale...@re...> Thu, 20 Nov 2008 13:00:35 +0300 wrote: >Hi all, > >ODBC Driver v.2 RC1 (2.0.0.148) got out, all packages (with sources and >changelog) are available here: >http://firebirdsql.org/index.php?op=files&id=odbc ><http://firebirdsql.org/index.php?op=files&id=odbc> >Please test these thoroughly and report experiences, good or bad, to the >firebird-odbc-devel list. > >Regards >Alexander >-- >Alexander Potapchenko >http://www.red-soft.biz >Senior developer |

I am learning asp.net. This issue has been annoying me for some time. On version 2.0.0.144, there are some abnormal behaviors in Visual Web Developer Express 2008: 1. The list of all tables in any one database(*.fdb) could not be displayed on the panel of database explorer through ODBC. (Even on driver ver2.0.0.147) 2. The string parameter issue as Dmitry Gusev reported. I am not familiar to ASP.NET, so I could not make sure what's the problem is until I found this conversation. sigh...It is really annoying. So it had better to announce it in the download page of ODBC driver at firebird.org. The first one above, I have one more thing to comment: *most of the time*, Visual Web Developer can not get the table list through ODBC connection. But sometimes, it can... ;-) Regards "Alexander Potapchenko" <ale...@re...> ??????:490...@re...... I've downloaded Firebird .Net Provider and use FbXXX interfaces instead of OdbcXXX. With FbXXX all the tests passed. I can not reproduce it on last driver [Firebird_ODBC_2.0.0.147].
