I guess this the source of the problem I had earlier this year. > I am using Perl on Linux (Kubuntu 9.10) with Firebird 2.1. I'd still like to use ODBC, but for the moment, I'm putting up with DBI. Do we have any idea when the next release will be available? If I can help with testing, I'd be happy to. Regards Steve |

Using the latest v.2 odbcfb driver against the same fb 2.5 server, I found the octet buffer length as reported by SqlDescribeCol for SQL_INTEGER is incorrect for the linux 64-bit odbcfb. It should be 4 (window version is correct) but it reported 8. When retrieving data using column binding, it actual fill 8 bytes or each SQL_INTEGER, with garbage in the upper 4 bytes. I also found the it failed to update correctly using sqlbindparameter for SQL_INTEGER, it did report any error but all field following the integer field were in fact not updated. It might related to this bug. No problem for the other 3 combinations: W64 W32 L32. window 64-bit driver +-----------+---------+-----------------+-----------+-------------+ |COLUMN_NAME|DATA_TYPE|TYPE_NAME |COLUMN_SIZE|BUFFER_LENGTH| +-----------+---------+-----------------+-----------+-------------+ |CODEN |4 |INTEGER |10 |4 | +-----------+---------+-----------------+-----------+-------------+ |DESCR1 |_9 |VARCHAR |10 |30 | +-----------+---------+-----------------+-----------+-------------+ |DESCR2 |_9 |VARCHAR |10 |30 | +-----------+---------+-----------------+-----------+-------------+ |TYPEN |4 |INTEGER |10 |4 | +-----------+---------+-----------------+-----------+-------------+ |MAXN |4 |INTEGER |10 |4 | +-----------+---------+-----------------+-----------+-------------+ |MEMO1 |_4 |BLOB SUB_TYPE BLR|2147483647 |2147483647 | +-----------+---------+-----------------+-----------+-------------+ linux 64-bit driver +-----------+---------+-----------------+-----------+-------------+ |COLUMN_NAME|DATA_TYPE|TYPE_NAME |COLUMN_SIZE|BUFFER_LENGTH| +-----------+---------+-----------------+-----------+-------------+ |CODEN |4 |INTEGER |10 |8 | +-----------+---------+-----------------+-----------+-------------+ |DESCR1 |_9 |VARCHAR |10 |30 | +-----------+---------+-----------------+-----------+-------------+ |DESCR2 |_9 |VARCHAR |10 |30 | +-----------+---------+-----------------+-----------+-------------+ |TYPEN |4 |INTEGER |10 |8 | +-----------+---------+-----------------+-----------+-------------+ |MAXN |4 |INTEGER |10 |8 | +-----------+---------+-----------------+-----------+-------------+ |MEMO1 |_4 |BLOB SUB_TYPE BLR|2147483647 |2147483647 | +-----------+---------+-----------------+-----------+-------------+ -- regards, ==================================================== GPG key 1024D/4434BAB3 2008-08-24 gpg --keyserver subkeys.pgp.net --recv-keys 4434BAB3 |

I have found that the 32 bit Firebird ODBC driver does not work on 64 bit Windows Server 2008. I have been told on a Delphi newsgroup that Delphi will not work with 64 bit drivers. What can I do? Pier |

Yes, but that only confirms that the client library is thread safe in such a way that it works if you use separate connection(s) for each thread. So, then what does the "safe thread" option in the odbc driver add? OK, so what it means is that with "Safe thread" off, I can't even use one connection per thread? I was under the impression that fbclient *is* thread safe provided you use seperate connection(s) for each thread. Is this incorrect? It's very simple: ODBC driver does what fbclient doesn't. You develop multi-thread apps (meaning "one connect by thread", not "one connection, multiple threads using same connection)? Check the box "safe thread". You dont? Dont check that box. Regards. Thanks Jorge, but I'm sorry to say that your reply didn't tell me anything. In what way does the option affect the behavior of the ODBC driver? What, exactly, can be done in the "on" mode that can't be done in the "off" mode? And vice versa? What are the pros and cons of each mode? I know very weel what threading is about and how you write threaded apps. I just don't know how this option affects the ODBC driver. I need to know that, to be able to use it correctly in case I want to use threads in my apps. It´s for multi-thread apps, like Clarion ones, because fbclient is not thread-safe (until FB 2.1, I think F 2.5 fbclient is thread-safe) Regards El 02/09/2010 8:20, Kjell Rilbe escribió: > Hi, > > What does the ODBC data source configuration option "safe thread" mean? > It's a checkbox down to the left. > > I can't see that it's documented in the online help. > > Thanks, > Kjell > > > ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ > Start uncovering the many advantages of virtual appliances > and start using them to simplify application deployment and > accelerate your shift to cloud computing. > http://p.sf.net/sfu/novell-sfdev2dev > > > _______________________________________________ > Firebird-odbc-devel mailing list > Fir...@li... > https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/firebird-odbc-devel |

Hi, I just migrated a working ASP (not aspx) application from a 32 bit Windows server to a Windows 2008 Wed 64 bit. Firebird 2.1.3.18185 64 bit classic. ODBC driver Firebird_ODBC_2.0.0.148_x64.exe. After the migration I have problems with null values. I have a select that returns one row and in some columns it returns null. When I try to access a null field's Value from VBScript I get an error. Any ideas? Here's a printout when I try to access all the Field object's properties one by one: Name: FirstName ActualSize: Error 458: Variable uses an Automation type not supported in VBScript Attributes: 100 DefinedSize: 50 NumericScale: 255 OriginalValue: Error 3251: Current Recordset does not support updating. Hi all, I'm trying to connect to a FireBird 1.5 database with the IBPhoenix 2.0 ODBC driver and I keep getting "Open Database [DB Path] Failed" on test of connection. I've got a version 1.2 of this same driver, and it connects fine. I'm using all the same settings with the 2.0 one, but to no avail. The reason why I'm trying to upgrade is because the 1.2 version seems to have an issue with the .NET decimal type, it does not map the decimal type correctly (I've got a DECIMAL(12,4) field setup and the values in the DB for this field always have four zeros (0000) appended at the end. Thanks, -Luis |
