Oh, I forgot that you are using old versions of scribus and of Mac OSX. 
There was enormous progress betweeen scribus-1.1.1 and -1.1.7 and 
between Mac OSX 10.2.8 and 10.3.4, concerning cups and gimp-print (now 
contained in the system) and the scribus print panel.
