Dear Open Source developer I am doing a research project on "Fun and Software Development" in which I kindly invite you to participate. You will find the online survey under http://fasd.ethz.ch/qsf/. The questionnaire consists of 53 questions and you will need about 15 minutes to complete it. With the FASD project (Fun and Software Development) we want to define the motivational significance of fun when software developers decide to engage in Open Source projects. What is special about our research project is that a similar survey is planned with software developers in commercial firms. This procedure allows the immediate comparison between the involved individuals and the conditions of production of these two development models. Thus we hope to obtain substantial new insights to the phenomenon of Open Source Development. With many thanks for your participation, Benno Luthiger PS: The results of the survey will be published under http://www.isu.unizh.ch/fuehrung/blprojects/FASD/. We have set up the mailing list fa...@we... for this study. Please see http://fasd.ethz.ch/qsf/mailinglist_en.html for registration to this mailing list. _______________________________________________________________________ Benno Luthiger Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich 8092 Zurich Mail: benno.luthiger(at)id.ethz.ch _______________________________________________________________________ |

I closed it then and wanted to restart it this moment so I could test the new googleblog with atom - and had to find out it was still in memory, consuming ~50 mb of memory. Had to use several 'shut this process down' to get rid of it (xp prof) http://www.google.com/googleblog/atom.xml is not recognized as feed. Tried again to export (From Feedreader) and then reimport. Still: No feed which could be imported is shown. NIcole -- http://ideengeberin.de/ - pragmatische Ideen für KMU http://beissholz.de/ - von bissig bis garstig |

* Since when does FR pop into front when catching new feeds?! I had to minimize it, so it won't pop in front. * New popup messages appear at the same position as others just have reimportet my feeds from sharpreader and have several times, that the popup 'xx new messages' appears at the same position as the one before. perhaps because of to many times? I've imported 521 feeds and for the moment it only uses 7 different positions. * Folder structure FR did not recognize my folder structure from Sharpreader * I still would like a stop button After catching ~200 of the feeds, I stopped catching news with closing fr and restarting. A stop button would have been easier. * Slow Going through the feeds just with ctrl-r and space is slow compared against Sharpreader, especially jumping to new feed. For the moment it does not crash, but I did not use it very much. fyi - PC Welt, a big german computer magazin, starts rss feeds plus adds a description about how to set up with feedreader http://www.pcwelt.de/ratgeber/online/39985/39985_index_pa.html Nicole -- http://ideengeberin.de/ - pragmatische Ideen für KMU http://beissholz.de/ - von bissig bis garstig |

No, it's not. And I could not commit to CVS because again, this sourceforge cvs server has some problems. Yet, I have fixed this little bug in my local source and added periodic headline and subscriptions save feature. Let's wait till morning comes :). I've heard only good about Flashfiler. Only question is, does it need to be installed or are some dll's in the application directory enough? Hello! I think I know what is the problem of Feedreader when subscribing to a lot of feeds (i have tested with 1000). Problem is not about XML files but that headline search function and headline database structures are not optimized for a lot of articles. Let's say that we have 1000 feeds and every feed has 100 articles (i think it can be even more, i have some archives set to 500). So now we have 100000 articles from where to search. Search must be done every time new headline has to be added to headline database and every time a feed is selected from left pane. Also this search is runned then clicking on listview... But what does our search function look like? Like this : +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Function GetHeadlineIndex( Owner: real; Const headline, link: string; read: Integer): Integer; var i: integer; begin // EnterCriticalSection(gCritSect); try for i := 0 to length(gHeadlines) - 1 do begin if (not gHeadlines[i].deleted) and ((owner = gHeadlines[i].owner) or (owner = 0)) and ((read = gHeadlines[i].IsRead) or (read = -1)) and ((headline = '') or (pos(headline, gHeadlines[i].tiitel) > 0)) and ((link = '') or (pos(link, gHeadlines[i].link) > 0)) then begin Result := i; Exit; end; end; finally // LeaveCriticalSection(gCritSect); end; Result := -1; end; ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ This is dumbest algorithm to use for this kind on job (it was designed by me :)))) if there are a lot off items in array. It just goes through entire headline list searching for items. So, nothing will became better with 500+ subscription databases, if we have this kind of function. I have even thought about adding database engine to FR (http://sourceforge.net/projects/tpflashfiler/). BTW this flashfiler went opensource in jan. 2004. Before it was product of TurboPower. This makes me think that it can have some quality. Greetings Toomas |
