I personally love the web interface via the rss feed listings, its much easier to view the information then the program imho. Thing I noticed is feedreader is sorting the headlines in some weird order. I cant find in which order it is, but it would be nice if it sorted it via date or the same way I have it on the feedreader program. |

Hi, I'm using feedreader without problems for few weeks. It is a great tool = (big fun to use it, compared to manually browsing all the sites I used = to do). -----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 I also started to make a list with things that need IMHO some changes, so i'll post it here: * When Feedreader is open (so not minimzed in thesystemtray) it does not have a button on the taskbar. Imho having a button on the taskbar when the app is not minimized would be very usefull. (added this already as an RFE http://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=detail&aid=1033045&group_id=70179&atid=526866) * When there is an error with a feed (parse error, hierarchy error,..) it would be nicer if that feed in the tree would be coloured red or marked somehow instead of the (annoying) error message. (Sharpreader has a nice manner of marking feeds with errors) * Feedreader doesn't save the state of folders * Like carl set, updated items should be marked in a different way (sharpreader by example shows them in italic instead of bold) * In comparison to sharpreader updating my feeds (about 60-70 i think) takes a lot longer. Sharpreader seems to do this multithreaded, while feedreader seems to do it one-be-one, could this be changed? * also nice would be to show a different icon in the systemtray when there are unread items Kind regards and Thanks for the nice app!! I have been using feedreader successfully for a while now. Overall I like the program a lot, especially how fast and lightweight it is, but I have a few problems/annoyances. In case these are helpful at all, here they are: 1) I can't delete a folder that I no longer want. It is a subfolder underneath a main folder that is underneath "My feeds". 2) I'm constantly seeing old articles highlighted as being new, even though I just recently read them. I also see a number of duplicate articles. I'm assuming that this is because the articles are being updated slightly, or at least something in the downloaded data is slightly different, and feedreader is assuming that it has downloaded a new article when in fact it is the same as another article that has already been downloaded. There should be a way of identitying a few very basic characteristics of an article and using these as a unique index to prevent duplication. Updates to articles would be written over old versions, and the user would have the option of flagging these as unread or not. 3) When a feed gets some new messages, I see many numbers in parentheses piling up next to the bolded feed text, such as "Slashdot (7)(7)(7)(7)(7)(7)(7)", but when I click on the feed those duplicate numbers disappear. 4) It'd be nice to have some browser buttons in the preview pane that allowed you to move back without having to right-click on a blank area and click back. As I think of more issues I'll try and post them. Thanks, Carl Youngblood |

I know it. If articles database is big (for me it's 6 mb and it's big) then it takes quite some seconds to load it to memory... This is no good :). I guess these are the same things Nicole told us in the spring :). I think that only right idea is to use firebird (local) SQL engine for this. I have developed some (strongly experimental and secret ;)) bayesian filtering extension to Feedreader using firebird and the engine is behaving wonderfully. Also we will win more powerful query and sorting mechanism and possibility to use remote SQL for some kind of group installation of Feedreader. Hi. There are some bugreports on sourceforge which reports 100% CPU utilization on start up and shutdown. Maybe we should switch to another format to store the feeds, headlines, etc. Ideas? -- Karsten Hoffrath kho...@kh... |

Hi guys. I've been using feedreader for a few days and I have to say = that it works really well! Thanks for the great project. I have a feature request. Some of the feeds I subscribe to (New York = Times in particular) have very crude RSS feeds that output the same = headlines throughout the week. I end up seeing this: 20:00 28.07 When Technology Imitates Art 20:00 28.07 For Some Beta Testers, It's About Buzz, Not Bugs ... 20:00 21.07 When Technology Imitates Art 20:00 21.07 For Some Beta Testers, It's About Buzz, Not Bugs ... 20:00 14.07 When Technology Imitates Art 20:00 14.07 For Some Beta Testers, It's About Buzz, Not Bugs It would be easy to programmatically strip out duplicate headlines so I = don't get false notifications all the time. If this is considered = dangerous perhaps it could be a per-feed checkbox. Thanks! Adam |

Hi all, Had a little try with this. It seems not to be that simple than i thought because feedreader uses the embeddedwebbrowser-wrapper-control. Using the mozilla control instead needs to implement the same things as the embedded webbrowser does but for mozilla. As the DOM support of the mozilla activeX control is limited i don't know what is possible and what not. Cheers, Marc |

Gecko is the bowser-engine used by Mozilla and Firefox and it is much smaller than the IE engine but still about 3-4 megs (IE is more then 10megs). But making the thing configurable will allow to use one or another. If one like to use Gecko (Mozilla) maybe an aditional download is needed but first we have to see whether it works or not ;o) Cheers, Marc |

If you just want the Gecko engine without installing the browser you can get that here: http://www.iol.ie/~locka/mozilla/mozilla.htm It just provides you the Mozilla ActiveX control specifically for embedded browser development like we are doing. -- -Jim McKeeth "Anything is possible with enough programmers, time and pizza!" Hello! First let's try to get it to work :). After this we have possibility to offer users two packages. One with IE and another with Gecko. Another possibility is to use IE by default and if Gecko is installed then use Gecko (this gecko use should be configurable). I prefer Gecko :). Greetings Toomas |

Hi there, As it would be cool to get rid of the ****** IE and it's popup's etc I did some testing with the Gekko-ActiveX control. It seems to be straight forward to replace the IE control. But I am not quite sure what is needed to ship to enduseres to get things work. Somewhere it was written that one have to install Mozilla. That would not be that nice. Shipping gekko with Feedreader will also increase the installer size by a few megs (at least 3-4 megs). Do you think this is a big issue? Will try to replace the IE control with the Gekko control and see whether I get it work anyway. Cheers, Marc |

Hello! There have been following developments with Feedreader in last week: *headlines are now in tobjectlist *new feature - filters (highlight and delete) *plugin support - at the moment only plugins that do something with headline are supported. Plugin gets all data what is in current headline. Plugin can (for example) send mail, add entry to blog, add entry to custom corporate database. Only problem is to develop such a plugin. At the moment I have made plugin that sends email using mailto: protocol for reference. Greetings Toomas |

I have seen them donate DBISAM licenses to a few OS projects. Once we resolve the GPL issue they might be up for that. I really like DBISAM. It is a great database for projects like this. Although using it would make it difficult for others to build their own versions. Another option might be to use the MSDE from Microsoft. It is free for up to 5 connections or something like that. Nothing wrong with flash filer either though. -- -Jim McKeeth "Anything is possible with enough programmers, time and pizza!" "Substitute caffeine for time as necessary." http://www.bsdg.org/ |

AFAIK, That is incompatible with the GPL. The GPL requires that all parts included / referenced area also under the GPL, unless they are included with the OS or compiler - thus the Win32 API and the Delphi VCL are compatible (I actually checked with the FSF on the latter). The GPL also precludes credit requirements. Just as an FYI, the fact that we use 3rd party, non-GPL components is also not compatible with the GPL for the same reasons. The MPL or BSD would be more compatible. Not sure the legal ramifications of a change in license, but I think that as long as all the contributors agree then we can do that. But the fact that the current license is incompatible with the project is a pretty good reason to change. We can contact the FSF if we need clarification on this. They are pretty good about responding. -- -Jim McKeeth "Anything is possible with enough programmers, time and pizza!" "Substitute caffeine for time as necessary." http://www.bsdg.org/ |

I'm writing to you regarding using some of your icons in opensource project called Feedreader (www.feedreader.com and www.sourceforge.net/projects/feedreader). Feedreader is client for news published by newspapers and portals. I have developed Feedreader already three years and every day there are about 1000 downloads of this program. Over the time there have been more than 200000 downloads of this program. Feedreader is functioning well but it's icons are not nice at all (see attached screenshot). So i't would be really nice if we could use some of your icons in our project. As Feedreader is opesource project, all contributors get their names and information listed ;). I saw sentence in Your homepage that at the moment you are not welcoming use of your icons for free, so i did not do any detailed work regarding putting Your icons to Feedreader. If there is teoretical possibility then we will list icons we are interested in. :) Hope to hear about You soon. Greetings, Toomas Toots Feedreader, Estonia |
