4016.2 is microphone bit (Read only) on a Famicom
4016.2 is VROM Bank Select (Write only) in a VS unisystem arcade machine
the other adjacent bits are VS Dipswitches. No clue how the Microphone polling code works, whether it can be affected by bits other than the microphone bit.
With a dungeon warp in Zelda, there are some 'pols' in dungeon 5(PAR 6935 17, enter dungeon 1) in the room directly to the right of the entrance. 4016.2 isn't polled until they're on-screen. Alternating the bit on and off between reads seems to constitute the microphone being in use.
