Hah, I do have an LD_LIBRARY_PATH set and it turns out that I removed
an element from it and left a ':' at the beginning of the string. This
apparently means search the current working directory. Sorry about
that.

I guess I understand the security reasons why that doesn't work. It's
still a pain though.
