My thought was that maybe there was a XMP sidecar file that had different metadata than was in the file.
Another possibility was if the XMP wasn't written correctly. You can use this command to see if there was a problem. It will probably return other warnings, because a lot of programs don't properly write metadata. exiftool -g1 -a -s -warning -validate /path/to/files/
