if you're using the free version of Onenote, you must have at least one notebook, and that notebook must have the "unfiled notes" section somewhere.

    Hello,
    Thanks.  Fixed it.
The issue was that after uploading all my notebooks to SkyDrive, I changed the name of my local "OneNote Notebooks" folder.  I then saw that OneNote still looked to this folder by default. So I changed the folder name back to the original.  Now your software works!  (But with another issue -- see other thread).  Thanks!

I get the same error using Windows 8.1 Pro (and the free version of OneNote that comes with it).
