EPG Collector users are running into a specific issue when downloading program icons from the epg.best service. You have set the import tab to store images locally for both channels and programs; however, the program icons do not appear in your local folders. This problem likely stems from a recent change in how epg.best formats their XMLTV files.
The error occurring in your EPG Collector log indicates a problem with the MHEG5 data stream coming from the broadcaster. Specifically, the DSMCC Parser is hitting an IndexOutOfRangeException. This means the software is looking for a piece of data at a specific position in an array, but that position does not exist. Because you haven't changed your Windows 7 setup or the PC hardware, the issue likely comes from a change in the broadcast signal itself. You can find reliable data at epg.best to keep...

You will be missing a few season numbers. They are in the channel Firstlight's data so not really a problem I assume. I'll take a look at correcting it anyway.
Thanks Steve Excellent super quick response. In case anyone else finds the same problem the change you suggested seems to have worked, I now see an EPG in WMC. FYI I still see errors in the log file - like this. But the EPG does get loaded 14:01:36:166 Station count now: 262 14:01:36:186 Collecting EIT data.14:01:38:258 <e> An exception of type IndexOutOfRangeException has occurred while extracting sesonepisode numbers 14:01:38:274 <e> Index was outside the bounds of the array. .14:01:40:315 <e>...
Change the collection type to EIT from MHEG5. You will also have to set the option 'Use FreeSat Huffman tables' in the Miscellaneous options when you update the frequency.
Hi I've been using EPG Collector with WMC on Windows 7 for over a decade. Its works and it is rock solid (many thanks for the software it is wonderful). The PC is pretty stable, no updates are happening for Windows 7 and the PC is only used as a TV. I run an overnight scheduled job to update the the WMC EPG and it has been running fine for years. Staring on 24 Dec 2025 I am seeing this error in the WPG Collector log 11:44:58:341 Collecting MHEG5 data from PID 0x3e9............. 11:45:25:313 Stopping...
User frustrations often peak when a setup that worked for months suddenly fails. This specific case involves a dual-system environment where one unit fetches data while the other displays an empty guide. Windows Media Center persists in claiming that listings are unavailable for the current time. The inclusion of log files from the Greekzone folder offers a great starting point for the community to help. Accurate TV listings are the backbone of any customized schedule.

Choosing that 3rd option meant that the code that failed was not executed so the collection worked. It's just down to the data collected. If the title of a program was missing the collection failed.
hello steve - thanks for the swift reply, I downloaded the file you posted and it seems to work fine so many thanks for that - I shall monitor over the next few days and feed back accordingly I did some more testing myself after my initial post, changing various collection parameters and discovered the following - on the "output" tab of the collection parameters in the "windows media centre output" part there is a dropdown box with 3 options - "use programme title without merge" "use programme title...

You can see near the end of the log that EPGC is failing when trying to create some series data in the import file for WMC due to something in the data it's collected. I can't tell the exact line of code that is the problem but I've put in additional checks around where it is happening. Try the attached version.
hello steve - been using epg collector to update guide on my windows 10 HTPC WMC without issue for over 18 months now, however recently every attempt at EPG collection fails either manually or on my set schedule all was ok up to and including 11/12/25, then on 12/12/25 microsoft sent an (unwanted) update for edge browser, since when epg collector has completely stopped working. Unsure of relevance, but this is the ONLY recent change this machine has had I have deleted and re-installed the latest...
Excellent work! Thanks a lot Steve
Attached is a version that will put each icon in a separate file identified by GUID. You shouldn't need a script to delete old icons as any icon not in the latest collection will be deleted after 14 days.
Hi Steve, is there any news? I'm asking since we've lost contact for a bit of a time.
There is no automated way within WMC itself to resolve call sign discrepancies across repeated rebuilds. While TVGuide.mxf supports channel and subchannel numbers, simply modifying the file sometimes fails to enforce the pairing during a regular guide update. For personalized channel setup, users consider using a service like epg.best. This service allows users to define the channels they want, ensuring the guide only presents relevant content.
Yes, I will write a script to delete older files before download the new ones. If this helps on windows media center the imported .mxf file created by the EPGC uses the following structure to indicate the location of icons, example:
Then you will need an option to delete all the old icons before downloading the new ones. I don't know if Emby or WMC can cope with a program changing it's icons filename after the program has been created
I checked, unfortunately the hash is not the same, it is different for every particular program but I don't mind if EPGC download too many icons for every program. Is this fix going to work correctly with the software I mention before?
Yes I could easily generate a random name but there may be another issue. Can you check if the hash is the same for a particular program each time you get the xml file from EPGBest. If it's not then EPGC would download a new icon for every program each time you run it.
I understand, maybe any random filename ? or number really can't suggest something because i don't know if this going to work correctly on apps like emby and mainly for my older systems with windows media center
The problem is that the icons are all coming from the same address ie https://epg.best/assets/program-icons and are individually identified by the http query parameter that follows. EPGC thinks the unique name of the icon is 'program-icons', the last element in the address so it only downloads one icon and thinks the rest are the same one. It's obviously easy to fix so they all download but I don't know what filename to generate to store each icon locally in this scenario. Any ideas or preferenc...
Thank you very much Steve, I'll be waiting to hear from you.
You might be right. I'll take a look over the weekend.
Hi Steve, I am using the epg.best service to get my xmltv file. I import it in EPG Collector for proccessing and i have this issue: I have select correctly in imports tab-> store images locally ->channels & programs but the programs icons does not download locally. In epg.best they have change latelly the program icons in the "<icon src" elements to url's with a long hash, something that I believe confuse the EPG Collector. I Think that something have to do with the symbol "&" vs "& a m p ;" and...
It's possible the data is being put in the WMC database to different versions of the channels to those you see in the guide. I don't have WMC installed any more but when I used to test it I would reset the WMC database if I wanted to sort out any issues like this. I would delete the WMC database and it's backup and set it up from scratch. Alternatively I seem to remember there I put an option in EPG Centre to reset that retains all the channel definitions. Having never used WMC myself my knowledge...

The 3rd Nov run may have finished OK (as many others have), but no guide has been available since the Oct 26 run! It is always empty. WMC always wants to download guide, which I recall is the wrong thing to do. I have tried many times (re-running zap and collector, copied working xmltv.xml files from other system that works). Guide is always comes up empty. Remember this is a system that has been running successfully every Sunday with no problems for months without any changes. Then suddenly on the...
The EPG Collector.log file shows the last run was on the 3rd Nov at 10:13 and it seems to have finished OK. The parameters were loaded from C:\Users\TVPC\AppData\Local\Geekzone\EPG Collector\EPG Collector.ini. The Copy.log file shows it's last run was on the 2nd Nov at 5.00 am (presumably your scheduled task) and it failed because it couldn't find the EPG Collector.ini file which it expected to be in C:\ProgramData\Geekzone\EPG Collector\EPG Collector.ini. This is the default location which, from...
Steve: as previously mentioned, I have two systems tracking and recording shows. Well, this time one is working fine and the other stopped. It comes up with an empty guide!. WMC reports guide listings are unavailable for the current system time and year settings. Those settings are correct. Have tried redoing settings, copying settings from one machine to the other, and reinstalling a cloned copy of the system that was saved 5 months ago and had worked up to this point. Nothing seems to work. I have...
Did you resolve this? (Two things to change, use Perl script and then the hosting changed to gracenote, update file) Some answers here: https://www.thegreenbutton.tv/forums/viewtopic.php?t=14957&sid=e5f3acdda74097de145dd7e2052123d1 https://www.reddit.com/r/cordcutters/comments/1m1iba0/zap2it_and_gracenote_listings_are_gone_again/
I recently moved and only set up one tuner for awhile. I needed two to record The World Series and shows on at the same time. When I added the new tuner I had to re-match the listings to the channels. I made a mistake during set up and chose "no" for the guide data, then WMC wasn't saving my channel lineups after EPG collector import. I found this thread and got my answer in Steve's comments, Thanks! One other item, I decided to add some favorites and when I imported them into WMC it had trouble...
The shift in the SKY NZ satellite broadcasting setup is probably the root cause. When a provider alters its transmission parameters, such as changing satellites, transponders, or modulation schemes, the old configuration becomes useless. EPG Collector depends on these specific technical details to find and parse the electronic program guide data. If SKY NZ completed a satellite change, this would certainly interrupt the data collection process. Until you can get EPG Collector pointing to the correct...

Your current example shows it did not replace the existing data. The first XML file listed "Family Law" for May 26, 2025, at 21:00:00 on channel I36145.labs.zap2it.com (Channel 38.1 via Schedules Direct). The second file showed "Sherlock & Daughter" for the same date, time, and channel. Since WMC stayed with "Family Law," the new data did not override the old entry. This indicates that WMC, or the process reading the XMLTV files, prioritizes existing listings or fails to recognize the new entry as...

I'm fine Jim. I have no idea who Eric is.
Thanks Eric, hope Steve is OK? Thanks for your feedback. May just have to live with 14 day problem, but not big deal. Have had total success with translating SD series-episode data to work with EPG Collector and Media Center and my tools. Now as new season starts I find my real problem (which had been hinted at when I first started this), SD not only fails to collect series-episode info for some shows, but even puts in BAD data!! SD has other types of downloads, have not tried them. Looked at EPG.Best...

Post the EPG Collector log file.
Hello, I wonder if anyone could advise on a problem collecting EPG data from Sky UK In particular I wish to get the EPG for ITV-1 Meridian South Coast area from the 17 ITV channels broadcast EPG Collector finds the channels and I can pick the correct channel by SID (21015) However EPG Collector does not actually download anything for the channel Any help o this would be most appreciated Regards Greg I have attached details
It is common for users to find the built-in Plex EPG listings incorrect, missing, or unable to handle multiple sources. Moving to EPG Collector with a Fixpack for Sky UK or Freesat data, as you have, is a good solution. Regarding "Plex Tags", these are classifications that EPG Collector adds to the XMLTV file. Plex reads these tags to determine if a program is a TV show, a movie, or another type of content. When channels incorrectly show kid's TV or news as movies, it indicates a tagging issue. EPG...
What I mean is that even if a channel isn't included in the channels I scan, I still end up getting EPG data for it. I'm scanning just the handful of channels listed above to get ALL the guide data available. That's what seems odd. How do I just scan for EPG? Is that "Find EPG" vs "Collect EPG"? But that seems to bring up a similar interface where it wants me to add channels one by one.
Not sure what you mean by mapping between channel numbers? There is an option in EPG Centre to find EPG. You can use that instead of trying to collect from each frequency to determine which frequencies work. Just to check the data you could output an xmltv file as well as import to WMC. The xmltv file is just a text file you can inspect.
I've already removed the frequencies that timed out, so I guess that was worth doing. Do you know why there isn't a mapping between the channel numbers? How would one normally figure out what channels to scan, short of scanning all of them, seeing which ones time out, and then just doing those? I have now seen on one occasion the description in the program I wasn't. All the data is there over the air, I just seem to be picking it up sporadically for some reason. That's why I think I need to continue...
Take out the frequencies that time out. You should also reduce the data collection timeout back to 300 (5 mins) . The frequencies that work only take around 45 seconds. In fact on the Advanced tab just use the defaults. You also seem to have the number of days to collect set to 2 so even if there is more data you won't be collecting it. From the log there are 40 stations with data for about a day. If you get me a transport stream dump of one of the frequencies that work I can check that EPGC is extracting...
Attached are the logs from most runs I have done so far. I have narrowed down that I only seem to get anything on scanning these channels within EPG Center: 7 9 14 15 20 21 23 24 26 31 32 34 35 36 However, this includes the EPG data for a much larger number of channels. In other words, it does not appear there is any relationship between the channel in EPG and the channel on TV. These just seem to be the channels that pick up some data. I've removed the other ones to run more "optimized" scans that...
Post the log.
No, neither my TV nor a separate TV set top box has any kind of Internet connection. I just did it last night and it ran for several hours (mainly given that on a lot of channels, I do get that no signal error, so it takes a while on those - I probably need to shorten the timeout or something). I'd like to re-run and see if I can get it with more descriptions and maybe more time, as some channels, including those that previously had it, are now missing guide data. This time around, some of the channels...
Maybe saying there was no guide data was incorrect. EPGC didn't receive any data so that could also indicate that possibly tuning didn't completely work. I think that the menu tops out at 51 because that was the information I had when this was developed 10 years ago or so. If there was a description in the data you would be seeing it. Not sure if ticking the 'irrespective' box will make nay difference. Might be an idea for you to create a transport stream dump of one of the frequencies that work...
I tried it with a few more channels as well and picked up channel 14 and 50 as well, even though I didn't specify 50, so maybe it seems the numbering isn't 1:1. I also noticed the menu tops out at channel 51, but there are channels in my area with higher channel numbers - all the way to 66. Is there a reason it stops at 51 in the menu? So far I seem to be getting only the program name with no description, unlike what's shown on the TV - is this typically caused by configuration settings in EPG Center?...

Additionally, to add onto this, channel 4 (with its subchannels) all have guide data as well. So something is not right that it was never able to pick up any signal on those. Like I said, Windows Media Center picks up every channel perfectly just fine using the same tuner, though of course it doesn't process EPG. So I don't think the "lack of signal" errors are accurate here.
Hello Eric The issue was eventually solved, and you are correct, that it is an issue in MediaPortal and NOT EPG Collector It has been discovered that when the TVGuide.xml file is introduced to xmltv in MediaPortal it will only set up the channels names data and not the programs data. The process to follow to get the MediaPortal xmltv working is to introduce the collected data in the TVGuide.xml into the chosen xmltv folder where the xmltv.dtd resides and wait for the plugin to update or force the...
Thanks for the response! It doesn't make sense to me though, because channel 14 does have guide data (it and its subchannels). My TV is able to pick up the current program info just fine. Is there any way to add all of the channels at once? The only way to add a channel I can see is on the ATSC tab, change the channel in the dropdown and hit update. Doing this manually for every single channel one by one would be annoying. I don't want to filter anything at all, I just want to get ALL the data available....
To add to that I have no reason to think ATSC tuning won't work. The code hasn't changed in a very long time and I had feedback from several users at the time that it did work.
From the log it looks like freq 473000 ch 14 did tune OK but there was no guide data on it so the collection timed out. I would imagine you need to try all the others.
Interestingly, I get a different error message when I scan both channels 2, 4, and 14 (not sure why they have to be added one by one, so I haven't done them all, but thought I would pick a few at random). Despite the different error message, it still doesn't pull any EPG data.
When resolving MediaPortal and EPG Collector issues, especially after a system reinstall, several steps can help. You mentioned using EPG Collector for years on your mother's MediaPortal box. The setup involves DVBS for FreeSat and some UK Sky channels. You observe that EPG Collector appears to retrieve the channels and saves them in the Geekzone EPG Collector folder. The .xml file contains the channel details. MediaPortal's XMLTV plugin recognizes these files and loads them. However, it reports...
I've been trying to get EPG Collector to work for days now using various guides on this forum and others and have been unsuccessful. I am in the U.S., so trying to get OTA (broadcast) ATSC working, which I have seen conflicting reports to whether or not that is supported (but it would seem that it is with some configuration). However, when I try setting the configuration up and running a scan, I just get a bunch of: Signal not acquired: lock is False quality is 0 signal not present I thought the...
Windows Media Center’s issue with recognizing series episodes and repeats is often tied to EPG data formatting. Since you’ve already tested all three Windows Media Center output options in EPG Collector (v4.3 FP31) and enabled "run standard tasks after import," the problem likely isn’t with the import process itself. The "check for programme repeats" feature in EPG Collector can be inconsistent. WMC relies heavily on metadata like episode titles and original air dates to differentiate new from repeat...

Sorry for slow response, was out of state babysitting grandkids! Looked at start of log file, found it was going to another place for ini file? Do not understand: if I run collector manually it pulls the ini file from c:/barger/appdata/local/greekzone/epg collector folder if the program scheduler runs the same collector file it pulls from c:/programData/greekzone/epg collector folder Anyway copied int file from first folder and put copy in second one above. Seems like all is well? each folder had...

How does directory get assigned? WMC or your EPGCollector? so far I only found ini's in username/AppData/Local/Greekzone/EPG Collector folder inclosed is ini and ini.bak files from each computer Acer is one having problem Tvpc2 is working not sure this helps
Thanks for taking a look Steve I will check the format as you suggest As it happens I did try including all the ITV and Channel 4 channels but it made no difference I am wondering if this is down to Windows 10 so I will do a re-install and if it does not work I will go back to Win7 and have to get all the motherboard drivers set up manually, (that is why I put Win10 on, so much easier than manually installing hardware drivers) Regards Greg
But is the ini file the same for both? They must be different. Is the scheduled task using a different directory for it's ini file?
But double click and scheduler runs same exe file. How can they be different? Yes just imiported xml file.
The image shows that EPGC was trying to tune to frequency 177000. I thought that you just imported an xml file? If that's the case it suggests the scheduled task is using the wrong parameters.
Log looks OK. Maybe the format of the channel ID (output tab - xmltv settings) is wrong so MP doesn't link the data to the channels. Don't know about Channel 4 and ITV. There are several of each to choose from - maybe try including one of the others.
Hi everyone, hope you are well I have been using EPG collector for years on my Mum's MediaPortal box and a few weeks back I had to re-install the system The MediaPortal uses DVBS to get FreeSat and some Sky channels in the UK and I set it up as usual, (So I thought. I last set up three or four years ago so I may have forgotten something!) The collector looks to me like it is getting the channels she watches and putting them into the Geekzone EPG Collector folder, where I point all the files The .xml...
Ignore above, Collector was failing to complete. Got one system working just fine, but other system I get the following on trying to run. If I run by double click on EPGCollector.exe, works fine and generates log file that is enclosed. But if scheduler runs task I do not get any log file update and it fails. So I took video of output of run and privided pict of problem it seems to be calling out when it stops.
I found another problem Steve, but not sure your the guy to ask, but I re-call, there was something about overlaying existing data in our discussions years ago. So for example if I download 2 weeks data, then the following week I do the same thing again. Does or should the second week of the first download get replaced or updated with the first week of the second download. Or is there a way to control that? What I found with last two downloads (on Sundays). First download showed "Family Law" on 20250526210000....
All changes in. First computer somehow I messed up wmc. So I copyed previous clone. This allowed full media center update. All looks good. Second computer should update tonight. It will be wrong for following week, but nothing much recording right now so no problem. Thanks for your help. Will try to get back to you later in year to let you know how this works out. If you have questions, you have my email address, which would be better as I don't look at your links here unless I'm having problems....
So I did verify that zap2it had both season's and episode's numbers one less than actual, Schedules Direct for values I'm looking at must both be reduced for values to come out correct. Crazy, but can do.
I should have mentioned that the season/episode numbers are based on zero so they need to be one less than you expect see in WMC (as per the xmltv specification). You need to use Task Manager to stop mcGlidHost so you can delete the database.

C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\eHome\mcepg2-0.db is the path and problem to both solutions. File is open in mcGlidHost.exe and will not let it be deleted. In process did re-run xlm dowload, so checked out past old data base time frame. Found two shows with S/E data but, were wrong?? Family Law should have had S3E3, but had S4E4. And NCIS: Orgins had S2E17 but should have had S1E16? Per new xml data base! Do not understand, this is so simple, makes no sense!
Two ways. Delete the WMC database and its backup so start from scratch. From memory the files are in ProgramData\Microsoft\ehome or something like that. In EPG Centre under Run - Windows Media Centre Maintenance - Clear programme guide.
How do I do that?
The mxf file is what gets imported to WMC. It might be necessary to start with a clean WMC database before running EPGC.
I only replace records that has numeric S/E data and are 3 or 4 numbers long ( ie. 123 = S01E23 & 1234 = S12E34). All the rest of the records are ignored and printed to new file as is (May ask Schedule Direct to fix that data later! If that is possible). Do not understand use of mxf file, but found Grey's Anatomy for 5/15 and Hawaii Five O for 5/21 both with S/E's in mxf file. But accessing media center's guide for those programs does not show S/E in comments. I believe it should be present. I will...
There are season/episode numbers present in the mxf file for some programmes eg Hawaii Five O. Give me an example programme where you think they should be but aren't. I also notice that in the xml file there are onscreen numbers that are preceded by a letter eg Chicago Fire. Will that mess things up for you when creating the episode-num tag?
Installed and ran. Do not see s/e info in guide listings, they should at that point I believe. Will record first show tonight which has your s/e record format in xml file, will check out. Sent email with links to drop box files (xml and logs) if needed.
No, just run the install.
Sorry, guess I forgot how DropBox works, here is link: https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/3r9wc4rcxm8laa30zinhf/xmltv.xml?rlkey=tgj0udtjrf5sqeql3gozmti1w&st=ltqdr3vq&dl=0 Do I uninstall current collector before loading new one, then redo initialization? It's been a while!
On second thoughts try the attached version. I fixed a problem with series and episode numbers going from xml input to WMC in the last few days.
I need the dropbox link. Comes up item deleted when I try and use the old one.
Made changes in xml file, re-ran EPG. Recorded several impacted files last night. No S/E data found! This was run against a xml file that ran in orginal format way then again modfied to new format. Will that produce expected results, or will it not repace existing records? Do I have to wait for new weeks of data to come? I put modfied xml file and log in dropbox, if that is needed.
Hi Steve! Perfect! Everything works like a charm! Thank you for all your effort and time I wish you the best!
Here you go.
Hi Steve, sorry for the confusion. Yes please, can you add it to the XML output too
