Hei Joel,
Since about 2 hours I am trying to get Firedocs installing and Running.
I am on Mac Snow Lepard (10.6.8) - and tried it with several firefoxes. Regularly I am on Firefox 9.0.1.
I tried first you latest firedocs combo (1.8), when it did not start I discovered that there are newer firedoc version - but 1.3.7 (from the firedocs.org webpage that seems to be abandoned) did not work to install, then it finally worked with 1.5.x from the UZH page. But well.. at the end I can not get a page opened with firedocs.. no matter what (also switching the Java API off). It stops either with "loading schema" or "... stream". But it never shows the page itself. Further, from the documentation itself its not clear if I actually need to open a xml or the index.html for a lessen.
So please can you tell me with what Firefox Version is needed for elml- firedocs 1-8-0 xpi???
I tried with Firefox 4.0.1 but it says the elml extension is not going to be installed. While it installed the Firedocs workspace. - but still no success when I am trying to open a document... And the elml page itself talks about elml-firedocs 1-5-0 xpi.. and probably Firefox 3.6...
Well.. not good at all - I was going to use ELML now for a project, but this... can't recommend it to others if even I fail. (Except one want to use Eclipse..)
However, I have to say that use and installation of easyElml worked well.
cheers from Calgary and soon from Chile

Hi Stefan
Nice to hear from you :-) Just to let you know: Its my last week at the University, I would recommend using the UZH-support address for faster replies in future: elml@id.uzh.ch
Concerning Firedocs versions: All the versions you mention are different because depending on where you download it there is a different schema behind it. The UZH version has the schema for the UZH-CMS installed, so it will be of no use for you. The only version running with eLML is the one you can download on the eLML website.
Concerning Firefox: eLML Firedocs Editor should run on version 4 and above (but not on 3.6 where the installation of the plugin should not be possible). I have just installed version 9.0.1 today to check and it also works on this version (check the screenshot attached). The only difference I can see is that you are running 10.6.8 and I am running 10.7.2. So it might be a Java issue because you have an older Java version? Have you tried updating Java?
We have a support page for firedocs in German (shouldn't be a problem for you :-) and you might want to check it out:
http://www.unicms.uzh.ch/docu/editors/firedocs/problems.html
Let me know if this helps and if the editor runs now.
Bye
Joël
Firedocs 1.8 running on Firefox 9.0.1 on OSX 10.7.2
Hei Joel,
thanks for the reply.
I checked again and have no success with 1-8-0 and Firefox 9.0.1 on MacOSX and Ubuntu.
Though, I get an error message when loading the XML on Ubuntu saying "could not load validator".... Could be a Java problem. But my Mac has the latest version.
However, at least one good message: Firedocs works on my Win 7 setup (@work). Better than nothing so far.
all follow-up questions I am gonna send to the other email.
congrats to the new job & cya in Skype
