Sounds really great. Unfortunately recent days the development of EffecTV is almost stop because I'm now working on completely different project. EffecTV involved various people but it seems that all of them are working busy on their own project. It would be difficult to find a person who can port EffecTV to libavfilter from this community. As Niels commented, however, frei0r is actively maintained now and many EffecTV's filters are already ported. Adding frei0r support to libavfilter probably works interestingly. Please consider to contact with the community of frei0r. Thanks, Kentaro Fukuchi |

Hi, try this patch: http://thread.gmane.org/gmane.comp.video.ffmpeg.devel/116243 update your ffmpeg, apply the patch and configure with: configure --enable-frei0r then try for example: ffplay slow.flv -vf frei0r=/usr/lib/frei0r-1/rgbparade.so I should also be able to easily add frei0r sources. Have fun! |

Thanks Jun, I'm quite sure I can find useful code in your project, but this adds to the list of projects from which I can grab code, where I actually need more contributors for adding/porting more filters and extending the framework. Hi Stefano, I am an EffecTV developer and used to be the project leader of MAlib development. MAlib is a C library that can handle a sequence of video frames, and also it supports filter chaining like your libavfilter: http://www.malib.net/ Unfortunately MAlib development has been stopped, and currently no one is maintaining its code. Since MAlib development and EffecTV development emerged simultaneously in early 2000, Kentaro, the main developer of EffecTV, and I had a lot of influence on each other. So MAlib team contributed some part of our code to EffecTV, and vice versa. I would be happy if some code fragments of MAlib can be of some help to your development. Hi all, I'm an FFmpeg developer, and since more than two years I'm working on and maintaining the FFmpeg libavfilter library: http://ffmpeg.org/libavfilter.html Effectv was one of the main sources of inspiration for my work on this library, and porting the effectv filters to it has always been one of my hidden dreams. So my proposal: I want you to be aware of libavfilter and of the possibility to port some of your filters to libavfilter. libavfilter has been designed in order to be fast, so should be able, in conjuction with the v4l2/v4l input device, to render the various effects in real time. You may also benefit from the abundant generic utilities and high quality DSP code already implemented in FFmpeg in order to achieve even more astonishing effects. Also libavfilter natively supports filters chaining (no need for loop module), and will be able to perform transmedia filtering (audio support will be integrated soon). It still lacks some way to manage interactively user controls but that's something which will be eventually implemented. And of course libavfilter allows to process not only the camera input but each file and input device supported by FFmpeg. It would be great if someone of you may consider to port some of your effects to FFmpeg, I'll try to assist as best as I can in this process on the ffmpeg-devel mailing list. Best regards. |

Hello all, Thank you for your interests, Tristan. Just as a quick hack, while V4L2 direct support is not provided officially, you can use v4l1compat.so to use EffecTV with V4L2 driver. Type LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/libv4l/v4l1compat.so effectv The answer to your question, the project is dead?, is simpley no, but it's sleeping now. The difference between death and sleep is that still I'm using EffecTV with the quick hack above, but no official progress is published. I also want to release Full HD capable version of EffecTV, but still under slow development. Kentaro |

Ok, good news, so! i already tried to get it work with vloopback + "invert" example + PS3 Eye webcam (goooood piece of hardware), but unfortunately vloopback seems not to deal easily with the YUYV palette of the PS3 eye. So i tried to hack the invert example given with vloopback, and just add the fmt=PALETTE_YUYV possibility to it, image is better but colors inverted... Will dig that... Adding V4l2 support for Effectv would be the best, though! Ok, since the project is not dead, i wish to implement a simple blur effectv that i could control either with fake keypress or with a hook to a python script. Any ideas how to achieve that? i had a look on the code for most of the effects, but i really dunno where to begin... Any help or advices would be appreciated Tristan |

Hi Tristan, We are not dead, but the project not been progressing as most of the interested parties seem to have moved on. Someone was going to work on direct V4L2 support, but I guess it didn't happen. I'll look into it when I get a chance. I did get a V4L2 hook into it using video loopback and some code I found at http://www.swift-tools.net/Flashcam/ and got a USB webcam to work. Hi all, i was using effectv some years ago, and now i need it for a project. it seems dead, does not support v4l2... is there a way to get it to work? it fails with this message: v4lopen:VIDIOCGCHAN: Invalid argument Video initialization failed. While using a simple USB webcam Thanks for your answers Tristan |

I previously tried contacting one of the PiDiP developers about this<http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=130897>but didn't get a reply. I also posted on a couple Avisynth forums, and this should be possible with Avisynth. I'm finally getting around to doing this, but I'd rather do it on GNU/Linux than on Windows if that's possible just because it's easier, more reliable, &c. Do you know how I could do this on GNU/Linux? Thanks Thomas Levine |

It would be nice if you could redirect the effected video to another device (/dev/video2, for instance) so we could use it in other programs like instant messengers. Thanks, Danilo Luvizotto |

Hello! :) I've noticed that around 2002 gstreamer stated to include some effectv effects. I can't find any other reference to these anywhere after that, and even if they got to gstreamer0.10. I'd like to know if any updates are planned for effectv or if it's development has been abandoned. I was thinking in using the effects code to build an application alike Photo Booth from Apple. I have some C programming knowledge, although this is way ahead from what I know, so I'd use this as a learning experience too. Is this such a stupid idea? I've noticed this won't work with v4l2, will you ever add support for it? Cheers, Bruno Santos |

Dear EffectTV developers, My name is Stéphane Ludwig, I'm french and I'm actually finishing my studies by doing a Master "Free and Open-Source engineering" in Calais (France). During this Master, we have to participate to a community project. I'm working for Open-Wengo (www.openwengo.org), a free and open-source softphone with video capabilities. The aim of my project is to provide effects on the video coming from a webcam. The most advanced video effects program is EffectTV and we would like to reuse it. The onliest problem is that the Wengophone use it's own webcam wrapper, to be compatible with Windows, Mac and Linux. Can someone help me to adapt EffectTV on the Wengophone ? But actually i started learning c 3 month ago so i don't even know what i did but if it can help ... I use gcc 3.4.6.
