Hello EffecTV Developers, I've made a little web page that illustrates how I created a GUI for a performance I did using a hack based on EffecTV. If you are interested, please visit http://et-arts.com/linux/index.htm . I'd like to get some feedback. Thanks to all of you fellow developers. et -------Ed Tannenbaum---------- "Electrons Tamed for the Arts" www.et-arts.com |

Hi all, I wrote an mpeg player "mpegvl" during flight from tokyo to atlanta. mpegvl outputs video stream to video loop back device, so you can burn, dice and transform mpeg video by EffecTV. It is alpha version. Currently it does not support audio. It can be found at EffecTV CVS tree. Kentarou Fukuchi |

You know, EffecTV is very heavy software. Additionally, vloopback feature requires much power - not only CPU power, but also memory speed. The important problem is that EffecTV has no recording feature. I promise the next EffecTV supports recording. Kentarou Fukuchi |

Time, time, time... When i finish my current work, i will concentrate on new API. Of course, it includes all of BSB features - plugin mechanism, OpenGL, socket interface(Tcl),... - so it do NOT be bogged down. I promise. I notice that work on EffecTV-BSB seems to have come to a screeching halt. There are even places in the code where it is behind the main (stable) branch. Is it just that nobody (myself included) has enough time right now? Did it get too bogged down with incomplete features (OpenGL, Tcl/Tk, ...)? -Sam |

hey guys, haven't had much time lately. school has been crazy..... anyway, i had an interesting idea for a plugin, but no time to do it right now. i was thinking of a 3D plugin that uses the color (or perhaps intensity) of a pixel as it's height. so things would be zoomed in or out based on color. think it's worth pursuing? have any time to try it? :) if one of you guys has time, i'd love to see this. if not, i guess it'll go on my queue of stuff to do..... --buddy |

Sounds great! I know Max and jmax (and Pd) as very popular environment for media artists. If the effects can be controlable from jmax interface, it will be useful. Additionally, if i can code effect on jmax, then ... revolution. > are there any special things to take care of in your code ? > looks pretty straightforward, so it should be no problem to get it running > inside jmax. Some effecst use a shared frame buffer. It must be replaced by another usual memory allocation function (like malloc()). Some code assume Intel architecture to optimize their code. hi all, just saw your effectv code and decided to start a port to the jmax / videodsp platform (for linux). jmax is basically an realtime audio/data processing software with a graphical gui (ok, its more like a own programming language) we started a video project for jmax, which adds video processing to the core of jmax, the fts kernel. you can see the results on my page, if you are interrested. some screenshots are in the "what is it" page of the video section. are there any special things to take care of in your code ? looks pretty straightforward, so it should be no problem to get it running inside jmax. if you want to try out the jmax / vdsp stuff, let me know if you run into any problems. jmax is a bit hairy to set up, due to its mixed java / c architecture (the whole gui is written in java) will talk to you again as soon as i have finnished the first ports ..... greets, chris -- visit me at http://mamalala.de |

Hi all, Hi Matt, Two deadlines of my papers make me very busy, but i can't stop coding. I wrote some Japanese documents, added a new option("-palette") for USB cameras, and wrote an new effect. Yeah, I know i have to start to write an new API based core, so i will hop into new API from the mid of November - because deadlines are Nov.11 and 18. Before it, i want to release EffecTV-0.3.3, so if you have ideas of new effect, don't miss it. Matt, thank you for your interesting. Can you tell us more about your idea? Matt, I'm forwarding your message to the developer email list, along with my reply. We've got some stuff already in the 'BSB' branch (BackStage Branch) of EffecTV. It's only available via CVS right now. Sourceforge should have enough documentation available to let you get a copy. If that fails, I can always email you a tarball. What we have in hand: The mechanism is there to send keystrokes/events across a UNIX socket connection (allowing remote control from a different computer, theoretically from anywhere on the internet if you so wish), along with some simple commands. These commands are sent/received in plaintext and processed as Tcl scripts. (Tcl is a super-simple scripting language.) I've written up a Tcl/Tk client that right now only allows you to adjust the command-line parameters, start the executable, connect and/or disconnect to the effectv process (the 'server', in socket parlance). It has the foundations for something truly interactive, but I've been thinking about scrapping it for something new. School has been keeping me busy, so if you want to start working on the GUI, I (and the rest of the team) certainly welcome the effort. That'd let me focus just on getting the client/server mechanism right... -Sam ---------- Forwarded message ---------- Date: Wed, 10 Oct 2001 02:04:19 -0700 From: Matt Godfrey <ms...@us...> To: sme...@gl... Subject: UI Ideas hello, please allow me to introduce myself, my name is Matt and I have been doing visual performances, lightshows and vj'n in the US for the past 10 + years. I have just discovered the EffecTV project and I am quite impressed I think it is exiting and has great and wide potential, and as such I would like very much to contribute to it. Like others I to get ahead of myself sometimes and this is no exception so I figured if I could build a interesting UI, maybe some one can see I have enough useful ideas to offer the project, that they might help me tie it in to effectv or at least tell me where I can go to learn what I need to do it myself. I have started to rough out a concept ui for effectv, I call it "VEQster - (pronounced VQster) a multiuser, lan/wan ready, visual EQ, frankenstien control and automation system for EffecTV" It's a one trick pony at this point, but it will start effectv if you select dumbtv from the effect "a" dropdown, hey its a start. I was working on the interface when I came across your post and thought I should get in touch. I should also make it perfectly clear that I do not have the vaguest idea of how I will tie it in, but I am hoping after reading your post, that this may soon change. It sounds like you have already started working on this. I am interested in looking at your code and helping with anything I can but I am not sure, how exactly to proceed, this (sourceforge, CVS and more) is all new to me? Thanks in advance for the work you and others have done so far, please foward this note to others if you feel it is relavent to them. Regards, -m |
