I was wondering how to record effecTV with my default webcam recorder/viewer... I have the windows OS port version on my computer. I am no good at programming linking libraries either... I also wanted to find out why I can not get the bluescreen effect to work...(from what I can tell, it won't even make a snapshot for the background.... Pleeeeease HEEEELP! Thank you very much in advance.... Sincerely, Imasho Eiji _________________________________________________________________ On the road to retirement? Hi all, After 1 year from Effectv-0.3.10, today I released EffecTV-0.3.11. Here is an overview of changes in EffecTV-0.3.11. * New effects "DisplayWall", "BlueScreenTV", "ColourfulStreak", "TimeDistortion" and "EdgeBlurTV" have been added. * Appearance of ShagadelicTV and OpTV become resolution independent. * Now it is able to change the video input channel at runtime. (ALT+0-9) * Video capturing becomes robust. Even if it failed to grab a image, it retry every second instead of the red screen of death. * Some bug fixes and code cleanings. Enjoy! Kentaro Fukuchi |

Hi all, I am using a 64 bit Athelon processor for my art work and when I compile the program it gives me this warning: warning: i386 architecture of input file `effects/libeffects.a(slofast.o)' is incompatible with i386:x86-64 output However somehow I as able to compile Effectv but When I try to run it says that segmentation fault and doesnt showes up anything. I think that library libeffects.a is not for 64 bit machine. Is there is anyway I can get it for 64bit machine. Please let me know if there is something I need to do to run effectv on it. All the time of i look effectv im to surprise again, i only send this e-mai= l for congrats to this very good and incredible work... make more effects please !!! I think to effectv is used on cinelerra ( http://heroinewarrior.com/cinelerra_screen3.jpg http://thana.no-ip.org/tmp/shots/nada-borrar11.jpg ) uses effectv for make the effects of the images, but cinelerra don't have very effects. Also inform (is posible to you are interessed to know it) to i have include= d effectv by default on elive distro ( http://elivecd.org ) in all my versions, in another words.. if you are interessed in a livecd with effectv... ;) (spca5xx modules for webcams from the next 0.4 release). Filter BlueScreenTV Description Blue sceen effect: replaces a scene background by another. Controlling * s: take 4-frames background snapshot * d: take delayed background snapshot after 3 seconds * space: get 4-frames blue screen background and preset tolerance to 30 * b: get 24-frames blue screen background and preset tolerance to 20 * c: decrease tolerance by 1 (0-255) * v: increase tolerance by 1 (0-255) How to enjoy Pin a blue cloth on the wall and dress yourself with a non-blue shirt. Press the 'S' key to take a snapshot of a Hawaii postcard with your camera. Or use the 'D' key to take a 3 seconds delayed snapshot of your screen. Fix the camera in front of the blue cloth, get out of the field of view and press the space bar to take a snapshot of the blue screen. Enter the camera field and use 'C' and 'V' keys to adjust the image. For best effect you will need light coming from the same direction as in the background postcard, and no shadow casted on the blue screen. Now you are ready for a live video conference from Hawaii! Limitations * Takes lot of CPU ressources, comparable to the ripple effect. * You can use other colored screens provided their color is different enough from the subject you're filming. * EffecTV does not support multiple video source, so no videoke. Author Copyright (C) 2005 Nicolas Argyrou License: GPL. Developper's notes The above filter computes color difference between the current frame the pre-defined bluesceen background, and replaces differences less than the threshold level by another background image. Most webcams do not have a very clean image and the threshold is not enough to avoid noise, so the bluescreen is recorded for 4 or 24 frames and the minimum and maximum colors are saved (this method is better than averaging). To avoid noise the replacement background is averaged over 4 frames. It can be taken after a 3 seconds delay to be able to shoot the screen with a webcam. The color difference algorithm is quite different from the other algorithms included in the effectv package. It uses a max(diff(rgv)) formulae with anitaliasing like high quality photo editors do. Moreover it uses it twice for the maximum and minimum blue screen. To have even less noise a fast blur routine blurs the current frame so that noisy lonely pixels are diluted. This blurring routine may be overriden at compilation time by commenting out the "#define USE_BLUR" line. The "#define PROFILING" line in the source code may be uncommented to try other algorithm optimisations, although a lot has been done to allow a maximum speed on 32bits+ processors. Attached to this mail: file "bluescreen.c", to add to the effects directory, append filter registration in "effects/effects.h", "main.c", and "Makefile" and recompile. __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Hi, attached is a rather expensive filter I've started to hack upon. I'm currently taking a computer vision class, with todays lecture on "optical flow" and so I wanted to try out some stuff... ;-) Attached filter will use a gaussian kernel to do motion detection. There are three kernels included; one is a plain gaussian, the other two are designed to allow for directed motion detection. If scale would fit, which it doesn't right now. Visuals are pretty boring currently - a grey screen unless something moves, then black and white signal the motion direction. The code is completely unoptimized. I just hacked it up, and didn't spend much time on optimizing it, so i guess you can bring it down by the factor of 10 or so at least. Maybe even 100. And that is really needed, since its quite expensive. Extension to larger kernels than 5*5 would also be nice to have, but that definitely is a limit of the amount of CPU power you want to use. When all three kernels are calculated that should allow to try detecting the direction of motion more easily. That could then be used to disturb the image. Think of paint pot stirring and MyToy: http://koli.lame.hu/~goldberg/mytoyweb/ Well, all theory... this needs a lot of tweaking to reasonably work with fast movements, so I'll probably scale down frames by 1/4th or so - otherwise you would need a lot larger kernels, for example. Hello, I *think* this would be a pretty easy request for an experianced Effect programmer. I was thinking it would be nice if we could put logos over top of the video. Have it read in a .jpg/.gif or whatever format is easiest, take the first pixel of the image, and make it transparent. Then, take watever isn't the color of the first pixel and put it on top of the live video. By using the fist pixel to set the transparency, it would allow people to use any transparent color they don't need in their logo. Attached is an example logo image for a 320x240 web cam. |

Hi, > Congratulation! SloFast is very nice. I have added it to the main branch. > Currently I'm working on EffecTV-0.3.10 for the coming St. Valentine's day > release. If you are OK to write a web page of SloFastTV and take a snapshot > of it (animated GIF is recommended as seen in NervousTV's page), please > send it to me by 13th. I'm a bit short of time, unfortunately. So I don't know if I'll find time to make that screenshot thing. I don't know how to capture into a gif file, too. Here's the text for the page: Description: SloFastTV plays back the current video input at non-constant speed: while the buffer fills the video is played back at half the frame rate, when the buffer is full it plays back at the double rate until it has caught up with the live video again. This causes the actual image to be delayed from 0 to about half a second. Movements that previously had a constant speed will appear very slow and then very fast. Controlling: No controls in current version. How to enjoy: Try making slow movements (so you don't leave the screen) with a constant movement rate. For example, try waving your hand slowly. Technique: Video is recorded at full (when in "fill" mode) or half speed (when in "flush" mode) to a circular buffer of 8 frames, and played back at half (when in "fill" mode) or full speed (when in "flush" mode). When the circular buffer is empty, "fill" mode is activated, when the buffer is full, "flush" mode is activated. Having up to two memcpy calls per cycle, this filter has almost no CPU overhead. Hi, attached is a new filter, SloFast. It's based upon the NervousTV filter - one of the funnies filters ever! Behaviour is subtle and simple, but kind of funny: It play back frames at half the frame rate until the buffer is full, then it starts playing them back at the double frame rate until the buffer is empty again. Things that were moving continuously thus appear to be moving faster and then slower again; the video image is delayed from 0 - 16 frames with the delay increasing linearly to 16 and then back down to 0. (Maybe it never actually reaches 0 or 16 though... swapping get and put calls in the draw function could help then) When you have a moving camera, this can create funny wobbling effects. Hello Adrien, Thank you for your 3 new effects, today I checked them. # Uh, I'm very sorry for this delay to all... AverageTV is not so interesting (maybe useful for some practical application but that is not our field). Wave and Payperview are cute. I would like to ask you to combine both effect to one effect. For example, make both 2 wave parameters (freq and volume) controllable by Ins/Del or PgUp/PgDn, and give some presets for some numeric keys. "1" for a normal wave, "2" for pay-per-view mode, and so on. And let me say, demoscene is not dead. (just sleeping ;-) Thank you, Kentaro |

Dear Jarrel Pair, Hi, thank you for the video clips, very nice works. I'll put the clips on EffecTV web site, and put a link to your page. By the way, hey Mr. Pair, you are a director of the Flat World project! I've just heard about the project but I could't find the demo video at that time. Finally I can see the video clips on your page. That's great! My best regards, Kentaro |

Hi! I discovered effectv yesterday and I think it is great ! I couldn't resist sending you a few dumb effects... averageTV is just a simple blur effect, using the average value of the four pixels around the current one. waveTV is an horizontal warp of image, which period can be modified with left and right keys payperviewTV is roughly the same, but it's an extreme period, so that it looks like some encrypted porn channels (at least in France). This one too can be tweaked with those two keys. If you want, I can do a rotozoom effect.. That should be kinda nice. And maybe, using the previous frame as a bump map, it should be possible to develop some weird "bump mapping"... All I do now is hope the project ain't as dead as the demoscene ^^ よろしく Adrien. -- <PaXaL2> fait chier les souris sans fil <PaXaL2> je l'ai paumée |

Okay, and now I would like to talk about the recent progress of EffecTV. Let me write down my random thoughts here... I used EffecTV for various purposes, especially for advertisement. For example, I built some "EffecTV-box"s using cube-sized PC, and installed to a bar, clubs, and so on. In that situation, stability was the most important and that is the reason why I had no time to hack the BSB blanch or new-api. Instead of that, I wrote an "Open Sound Control" based message passing system over Ether net (with help of Niels Elburg from VeeJay), a MIDI interface, joystick support and FireWire cam support. Before the next step of EffecTV, I want to release a patch kit includes those additional features, hopefully by this Christmas. Then, let me tell you what happens on new-api. At this momemnt, there are a couple of plugin API for realtime video processing. FreeFrame, LiViDO and frei0r. FreeFrame http://freeframe.sourceforge.net/ LiViDO http://livido.dyne.org/ frei0r http://people.gephex.org/~georg/gephex/frei0r/frei0r.h I thought we should follow one of them instead of developing our own new-api. But the APIs of LiViDO and frei0r are not stable now, and I'm not familiar with FreeFrame (Buddy may know very well). I'm not sure which of them we should employ. Or, we should continue to develop our new-api, and add wrappers for those APIs. At last, these days I received many requests for MacOSX or Windows support. Timecop already ported EffecTV to Windows. MacOSX? If we could use Quicktime camera API on MacOSX, it would be really easy to port. thanks, Kentaro |
