First off Andrew(s) give yourselves a big pat on the back: I've been checking out the change log for 1.29 and you guys have done a sh*t load of work on the new version, especially considering that it wasn't supposed to have a lot of new features. Good work.
Now I'm not going to heckle you about when the beta will be out (though I'm expecting it REAL soon hehe) but I did want to ask a few questions:
1. I see there's been quite a bit of work on Dynamic lights: can we expect to see a speed increase while they're active compared with the previous version?
2. We are now able to use 24-bit screen modes (16.7 million colours): Is this even noticeable? I mean if Doom is limited to 256 colors... I don't get it.
3. new STYLES.DDF file: will this actually be used in 1.29? I mean is Edge.exe actually using it?
4. Work on Net code!!??

Ideally the Beta will be ready by Christmas, though that is looking a bit optimistic.
1. The new dynamic lighting seems faster in normal use (especially when detail level is high), but can be slower when there are LOTS of dynamic lights (e.g. holding down fire on the plasma gun).
Main advantage is better rendering quality.
2. Using 24-bit makes the new dynamic lights look a lot better, as well as PNG textures and skyboxes (which admittedly may not be supported in 1.29).
3. Edge now uses and requires styles.ddf.
4. Net code is being worked on (client/server model), but still in early stages of development.

If you don't feel that you'll be done by Christmas you could also think about releasing a dirty, just-barely-works "alpha WIP", with a warning that it's completely buggy and it's just to tide people over till the proper "beta" (I wouldn't even announce it officially). I'd be interested in getting my grubby paws on a windows build ;)
Just my 0.02 Euros.

Ah yes, the famous 1.25 WIP, which ended up being 1.25 FULL in the end :)
Yeah, over 6 months between releases is too long, but I'd rather have Edge with slow releases, than not have Edge at all (which is where it was heading before you showed up again). Whatever you guys decide is good enough for us.

Credit where credit is due: although I have put in some work into this version, A Apted can take the majority of the credit for doing the real donkeywork.

WOAH!! I see, finally 24-bit color, just what i've been waiting for! Can you include a new colmap in the EDGE.WAD that we can copy and paste into our own wads that contains a lot more colors?

OK. Take your time.

"releasing a dirty, just-barely-works alpha WIP"
Been there done that (the 1.25 "WIP" release), which ended up being the same as a full release.
I'm just as hungry for a release as you guys, anything over 6 months between releases feels too long.

"Second off Andrew Apted give yourself a BIGGER pat on the back.."
How about that :)
Works for me :).

"new colmap in the EDGE.WAD"
GLEDGE doesn't use colormaps much. To use more colours, you need to use PNG images.
Tomorrow is friday! Are we gonna have a Beta day? ;)
PS: Ajapted, I posted in your forum(GLBSP) cos Deep has posted in that thread about GL v3
