Hi BJ, Could you send a link to the errlog.txt for the latest version? Except for #1 of course, I'm not seeing any of these on my XP machine or a "clean" Win2K machine. Thanks, Kevin On May 26, 2004, at 1:10 PM, BJ Cameron wrote: > Hi Kevino, > > I have spent several days with the latest version (2-5-4-15) and have > found > very little in the way of bugs. > > Problems: > 1. Hi Kevino, I have spent several days with the latest version (2-5-4-15) and have found very little in the way of bugs. Problems: 1. One problem I have seen so far was in the "page editor", in the "text" window, you have doc and rtf listed as options, while in reality you can't use them. I understand this is to be impleted in the future with OO support. However, until that happens, I would remove them to avoid confusion. IMHO 2. "Publish to web" doesn't seem to be working. I get a message saying "finished uploading", but when I check the server nothing is there. I assume the entire directory would be uploaded. 3. Not sure why you would want to, but you can't use an html file for file import. The page comes up blank. The funny thing is you can double click on it in the TOC and it opens in the web page editor. 4. After I imported a pdf file, I get an additional child with no name and no properties when I preview the course. I will need to play with this one some more as I am having problems replicating it. Kudos: 1. Nice to see that you got the Real Video and Read Audio working on the same page. 2. Great to see the PDF support is back up and running 3. The Search.py is working again in XP. Tomorrow, I will test it on a Win2k machine, but I think we are getting close. BJ |

Hi all, I've resolved the issues with PDF export on Windows 98, and hopefully=20 this will somehow resolve the problem that BJ is seeing on XP as well.=20= The new build can be downloaded from here: http://www.eclass.net/Downloads/eclass-builder-2.4.5.14.exe Please keep the bug reports coming, although you can also report if=20 there are no bugs. ;-) Thanks, Kevin On May 20, 2004, at 10:23 AM, BJ Cameron wrote: > Hi Kevino, > > You nailed it, I needed the newest version of the Export. > > Imagine my surprise, a new version of the export, it has only been 2.5 > years! I'm still trying to figure out what is=20 going on with PDF export. So far I have been unable to reproduce the=20 problem except on Windows 98. Hi Kevino, You nailed it, I needed the newest version of the Export. Imagine my surprise, a new version of the export, it has only been 2.5 years! I don't understand why they aren't bundling everything together. New version of EClass coming? Hi BJ, Are you getting a "freeze" and then hitting CTRL+ALT+DEL to stop the=20 program? The error log you sent abruptly cuts off while Greenstone is=20 creating the indexes. I should note that I tested yesterday with=20 Greenstone 2.50 and things worked correctly, but for some reason, the=20 "creating index" dialog disappears too early, and you have to just wait=20= a couple minutes for the indexes to be created. It will eventually pop=20= up the success message, it just takes time. I don't know what could have changed between 2.4 and 2.5 to cause this,=20= though. It seems like Greenstone is running commands as separate=20 processes, and EClass doesn't know these processes even exist, so it=20 thinks that Greenstone has finished. That being the case though,=20 there's not much I can do except maybe pop up a dialog saying "this may=20= take a while, please be patient". Let me know if this is the issue or if there is something else going on. Hi Kevino, Bug 1: The quiz plugin in is acting funny. You can create new quizzes, but = they do not show up in the preview window, nor when you publish them. Bug 2: Karrigell.exe is not running properly, I get an error message saying = "This application has failed to start because PywinTupes23.dll was not found. Hi all, A new version of EClass.Builder has been uploaded to the EClass web site. You can download it from: http://www.eclass.net/Downloads/eclass-builder-2.5.4.13.exe This should resolve the issues that BJ reported last week (the Real Media issue, the opening dialog issue, and hopefully the "new" button issue). However, I want to point out that I also made some other changes that make it easier to build EClass on different platforms, and as a result, I've moved some files around. I've tested most everything I can think of, but please test to make sure everything still works as it should. Thanks, Kevin |

Hi BJ, Am currently working on fixing some more developer-related issues with=20= EClass. Over the past 8-12 months, EClass has started incorporating=20 more and more functionality, some from 3rd parties, and I need to make=20= this a bit easier to manage so that Linux users particularly can build=20= EClass without too much trouble. It will also make it easier for me to=20= manage, and help me to put Mac support back on the map again. ;-) This=20= will take a couple days, probably finishing around Wednesday-Thursday.=20= At that point, I will come back to these issues. I plan on having a new=20= release ready for Friday. I want to get this release solid so that I=20 can start promoting it, and it's important that Linux has some basic=20 support at least, because it's likely that any volunteers to help will=20= come from that platform. And, BTW, nothing is too picky. It is always just the tradeoff between=20= how much work it will be to fix and how serious the problem is.=20 Particularly if I know what the problem is and the fix is relatively=20 quick, I can (and will) take care of it right away. =46rom your issues=20= below, the only one that may need some work to fix is the Real Media=20 bug. I have a feeling it is related to the "media controller" property=20= that RM has. These need to be the same between video and audio so that=20= they are "synched", but when there is a separate audio file, there=20 needs to be a "separate" audio controller. So that means having EClass=20= determine if the audio belongs to a video, or is separate. Anyways, I should have everything ready in the next few days. Thanks=20 again for all your help! =3D) Thanks, Kevin On May 3, 2004, at 10:28 AM, BJ Cameron wrote: > Hi Kevino, > =A0 > Media Bug: > > If you have a RealMedia video clip and a RealMedia audio clip in the=20= > page editor, you get two sets of controls (like you would expect) in=20= > the page.=A0However, they both play the=A0same media clip and the = other=20 > gets lost. Hi BJ, Thanks, not sure how I missed these. They're fixed, and I've uploaded a=20= new version: http://www.eclass.net/Downloads/eclass-builder-2.5.4.12.exe Also, I think I may have realized what the problem was with the server=20= on the hard drive. Do you have a "karrigell.ini" file in the EClass=20 root directory? Try deleting that and see if the server keeps giving=20 you problems. Hi Kevino, Sorry this email was in the works when you sent the latest version. Bug: -------------------------------------------------------------------------= ------- Publishing to PDF does not work. Hi Kevino, Bug: 1. I am not able to create a new course in the newest version of EClass. I have tried going through the opening window and the file menu, I get the "New Project Window", I type in a name, and Click "ok" and nothing happens. Tried this both on a win98 and 2K machine. 2. Import file still can't use htm/html, but at least we are not losing the "Page". All other files seem to be working fine in file import. 3. We still have a problem when adding a new page when opening a course. I see that you have made the "course page" the "selected" gray item. The problem is when you add a new page, in the outline, it adds it as an item to the course level. However, when published or when the course is re-opened it is actually a child of the last item. Try it and you will see what I mean. You can also "acheive" the gray selection by clicking on the course preview, this causes even more problems. Check out what happened to my course page: http://payson.tulane.edu/staff/bjcameron/demo025b4-10/ Not sure what is going, I will play more with it and see if I can get you a more detailed explanation. Hi all, The latest version of EClass.Builder is available for download at: http://www.eclass.net/Downloads/eclass-builder-2.5.4.10.exe It fixes the following issues: - File names can now no longer be more than 31 characters in order to=20 resolve bugs with pages not getting created. Also, now when you create=20= a new page, if you don't specify your own filename, EClass dynamically=20= updates the filename to match the page name, up to the aforementioned=20 31 characters. You will see what I mean when you change the page name.=20= ;-) - "Import File" should now be working properly. - EClass now is more intelligent about page selection. When no page is=20= selected in the editor window, the Page menu becomes inaccessible and=20 page-related toolbar icons gray out. It also auto-selects the top page=20= when you open a new EClass. - Presentations and search results should now open in new windows. If I don't hear of bugs in this version from BJ or anyone else in the=20 next couple days, I'll add it to the EClass download page and I'll add=20= a "Current Issues" note to inform people about potential issues with=20 the EClass server when run from the hard drive.
