#86 Ver 1.4 won't save file or create PDF; Reinstalled 1.3.8.7 will not launch

Two days ago I saw that there was a new update for EasyABC. I uninstalled my then-current version, 1.3.8.7, then downloaded and installed EasyABC-1.4.0.0.exe.zip. I was able to create and edit a new .abc file, but I was unable to save the file or print-to-PDF. I'd never experienced that during 10 years of using EasyABC. I did some web research and downloaded and installed Ghostscript, but to no avail.
Late yesterday, I uninstalled version 1.4 and reinstalled ver 1.3.8.7. When I tried to launch it, it failed to open. Today, after rebooting my computer, I uninstalled, then reinstalled 1.3.8.7. It would not launch,. I rebooted my computer. Still it will not launch.

What's going on?!!

Hi,
Related to not being able to save or print to pdf this is rather odd.
No issue here at all on Windows 10. I cannot test on Windows 11
On Windows 11 there might be some extra security verification.

To go back to EasyABC 1.3.8.7 you need to go to your User folder then AppData\Local\EasyABC and rename the file settings1.3.dat.
Most probably it cannot handle the new values from 1.4.0

Thanks for your quick reply.

Before I read it, I had the thought that perhaps the contents of my user data folder,
C:\Users\User_Name\AppData\Local\EasyABC,
may be the issue. I deleted the folder, launched ver 1.3.8.7 (it opened finally!!), and all was good. I could save a new .abc file, print to PDF, and save the PDF.

And perhaps that was the issue with ver. 1.4.0. I had not thought of deleting the contents in the AppData\Local\EasyABC folder. When I have the time, I'll go back and retry the new version with a new AppData 1.4.0 folder.

Thanks John and sorry for the issue.
going from EasyABC 1.3.8.7 to 1.4.0 should not be an issue with the settings. Unless it is trying to go to some folder that do not exist anymore. But this should not be the case as I assume Ghostscript is still installed somewhere else.
Maybe an issue with the rules with Windows Defender or other topic. I'm mainly using macOS and Linux and not Windows. I even haven tried yet a windows 11 computer

I had never heard of Ghostscript before, let alone installed it. I did a quick search of my machine prior to installing it, and did not see any evidence that it was present.

This is odd, I'm wondering how the pdf export could work as I do not recall that there are any other tool to export to pdf then.

Well, technically I have not been using Export from the File menu. I typically select Print and use "Microsoft Print to PDF" as my printer. The File Explorer gives me the opportunity to name the file and select what folder I save to.
I did, however, just try the File > Export Selected > as PDF.. and it worked.
