EasyABC allows the user to create, edit, view, play, convert music written in the ABC music notation language. The program was written in Python 2.7 and WxPython by Nils Liberg and runs on Windows, OSX, and Linux. Nils Liberg is no longer supporting this open source package, however I have volunteered to continue its support and development.

I use EasyABC every day for practicing the flute and tin whistle. It is the very best ABC notation software I have found and I have tried many. I use it online to display the sheet music and play the background music for my Twitch stream. I really like that the notes turn green as they are played to show your place in the tune. It makes it easy to keep it a large collection of traditional tunes organized and it is easy to make edits or transpose tunes. Thanks!

This is absolutely head and shoulders above any other ABC package. Documentation and support are excellent. Only two complaints, one small and one large, the small being that I would lie to see an easy way to select a tune (to then copy or delete it), and the large being that IT DOES NOT RUN ON THE LATEST Mac OS, which means I am looking for a replacement - sadly.

Basically, I love this software and use it frequently. But it has an odd quirk of not always playing the first note in a tune. I have to begin things with a "z" (rest) in order for the actual first note to be heard. I'm running EasyABC on a Macbook Air with OS 10.9.5. And today I installed the current version (1.3.6.2), and it seems to have another (even less serious) quirk, of accenting notes oddly. I'm trying to learn a fiddle tune in 6/8 time, and the main beats are held noticeably longer than the ones that follow. Maybe some people like that, but I find it annoying. Good stuff: tunes display instantly as scores, as you change the ABC notation itself for a tune. Multiple voices are possible. Fairly complicated kinds of notation are supported - grace notes, repeats, etc. You can instantly transpose to other keys. You can double, or halve, the lengths of all notes in a tune. I have no experience with "support", so I'm rating it average.
