It would be great to have a cc: field in order to
copy other users on a reminder. This would be great
for users that would like to be reminded of group
events.
To cheat and create group reminders now you can do
the following:
If you sign up as a new user with a comma delimited
email address ID (such
as "test@test.com,user@user.com,example@example.com")
and using your blank password to create the account,
all the users addresses listed will be emailed the
initial password and login link. You can then have
one person create reminders that will email the
entire group.....the catch is that when you login you
need to use that identicle ID
of "test@test.com,user@user.com,example@example.com"
in the correct order or it will think you are a new
user. Another draw back is that all system generated
emails such as password resets, changed passwords and
block email address will be sent to all parties.
Security note: If you enter a password when
creating an account this will precede the system
generated one (example: myfavoritepassword+djrnbi =
myfavoritepassworddjrnbi). So if your password
contains a password you use regularly for other
applications or websites this will be seen by the
entire group you created the account for
(test@test.com,user@user.com,example@example.com) in
the system generated email message.
The alternative is to create an account and a
reminder for a single user (user@user.com). then if
you have access to phpmyadmin or another method to
edit the database you can update the "email" field in
the "notify" record to consist of the comma delimited
email list you wish to broadcast the reminder to
(test@test.com,user@user.com,example@example.com).
Please note that once you have added the additional
email addresses you will no longer be able to see the
scheduled reminder from the list pending reminders
screen from the options page for the original accout
it was set up with. The reason for this is that the
system pulls the "email" field as the ID. And you
can only see pending reminders for your ID. Once the
extra email addresses are added the reminder will be
orphaned and cannot be logged into with any
ID/password combination. To edit (delete) the
reminder you will need to replace the original single
email address so you can see it in the pending
reminders screen or just delete the record in the
database from the "notify" table. Making changes to
the reminder in this manner (group reminder) will
probably be easier to delete the current reminder and
make a new one other than editing the record in the
database.

Another method that may be easier to manage is to set up an
email account with an option to forward incoming emails,
and have it forward the emails that come to that account to
all the addresses you put in the forward list. Then create
your event in the normal way. When the email is sent from
E*Reminders, a copy of it will in turn be forwarded to each
account on your list by your email server.

Yup, thats a great idea for those who have the
capability. my host only allows 3 addresses in a forward
list. i thought about it, but it was not an option for
me. as my lists would be bigger and i did not want to
have to keep branching from forward list to forward list
to make it work....lol. you should be able to add
addresses in the email field comma delimited to the field
maximum which i believe is like 256 charachters. your
method is much more efficient.....especially when adding
and removing addresses. I hope to have an actual mod to
accomodate this soon. thanks for your comment! that was
great info for everyone. the more people that get
involved the better this app will be. so please continue
to make suggestions and comments.

Yeah, some webhosts are a pain, aren't they? I think I can
put as many addresses in the forward list as I want to. But
they have other limitations that are most annoying. The one
that really irritates me the most is they only allow one
cron job, and it can only be run once a day.
That will work for my original purposes in wanting this,
which is to remind me to do things on a daily basis,
because I'd forget my backside if it didn't follow me
around. But once I saw how good this program works, I had
other ideas.
I may be able to get by with one run a day, but on the
other hand, I'm looking for a new host soon anyway. They're
on an upgrade for no reason kick, and they're messing up a
lot of my stuff.
In any case, I would like to see a CC: field added too. I
was only thinking of a temporary solution. I wish it would
have done you some good though...
