Hey all. I would like to create a layer that is positioned according to the normal flow of the html. In other words I don't want to add a position attribute to it, I just want the browser to figure out where it should go. But I want this layer to act as a positioning context for child layers. In other words I want the child layers to be positioned relative to the top layer. So I'd like to be able to create an inline layer and then use dynAPI to add children to it. Is that possible? I guess this means you would probably have to be able to turn an inline layer into a dynLayer obect? So it would have all the properties and methods available to it that a normal dynLayer would? As far as I can recall. There should be no problem. At any rate, you need to include more info when looking for help. What web browser where you using? Wheat version of the web browser? Including the HTML file (no need to include the whole dynapi) can make it easier for someone to debug. Hi, I'm new on this list so my query may be answered earlier. If so, I apologize. I'm attempting to simultneously use both mouse events (onMouseDown, onMouseMove and onMouseUp) and drag events (onDragEnd) on the same layer, containing an image. I can get both event type to work by themselves, but then the opposite type doesn't work or fail. If I format my image as an <INPUT> tag, the mouse events works, but the dragging is inactive. If I format my image as an <IMG> tag, the dragging works, but the mouse events fail miserably. Is this a limitation in DynAPI (2.5.7) ? The examples (or the underlying API) seem to be broken in some way. Trying to get something simple like lyr.setLocation(x,y) to work after DynAPI.document.addChild(lyr) in either IE6 or Mozilla 1.2.1. Anyone else run into similar issues? I'm just hunting and pecking with alerts to see what's being called and what values are being passed and so on. lyr.setLocation works fine for the initial setting, before the addChild is called. But then the lyr is stuck and can't move around for some reason. Leif |

Great idea Leif! DynAPI 2.5 is also most at the end of its days. The new version is where the all the action will begin in a short while. You can find 2.9.0 at this location: http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=5757 I don't have much information on 2.5 as I'm more into 2.9 and could of greater help if you were designing a snap library for 2.9. I've worked out some partial snap logic which is illustrated in the attached diagram. This illustration includes a source layer (to be dragged), a target layer (to snap to while dragging), a snap-border (to allow for a flexible margin of error), and some coordinate logic to know whether or not to snap. My stumbling blocks at this point are three-fold: 1) Where to start adding new code? In the dynapi/event/dragevent.js would be my best guess. What about the dynapi/ext/dragdrop.js (it doesn't seem to have much in it). 2) How to get access to both the "source" and "target" while dragging? In dragevent.js, we have access to the event, but e.getSource() and e.getTarget() both return the same object, the layer being dragged. 3) How to specify which draggable layers can snap, and to which layers they can snap. What you do is have your content layer inside of a clipping layer: The content layer moves up and down (or left to right) "behind" the clipping layer. The Content layer is a child of the clipping layer and can be any size. The clipping layer acts as a "window" into the content layer.. A bit drunk and maybe not too clear.. Anyway, my scrollbar is now working ok, problem is, i cant figure out how to set an invisibility box outside the scrollbar. i.e. if the content being scrolled isnt in a certain area it needs to be invisible. I have tried setClip, but this just clips the content, so i just have incomplete content sliding up and down. I thought maybe if i create a layer and apply the setClip to this, then have the content as a child this may work..
