Eq trilogy tutorial does not window. Tried every option, cannot get it working it always goes to full screen. Using d3dwindower it windows, but clicking is broken.

The basic dxwnd checklist for unwindowed cases is the following:
1) did you hook the right task? (if it's the same exe that works with d3dwindower, you can answer yourself "yes")
2) does dxwnd have administrator's privileges?
3) check and eliminate the exe compatibility options set by Windows (right-click, properties, in "Compatibility" tab)
4) try setting the "DirectX version hook" to values different from the default "Automatic" choice. In particular, try "DirectX1~6" for older engines, "DirectX8" or "DirectX9" for newer.
5) Be sure that the "Run in window" and "Hook enabled" flag are set (they are set by default, but you never know...)
If that doesn't work (as I fear will be the case ....) can you give directions about where to achieve the game (a game demo would be perfect!) or be ready to capture and send some logs.
I'll wait for you to complite the first checklist.

1) I think. d3dwinder and eqw all use tutorial.exe
2) yes
3) I tried Windows XP compatibility
4) Automatic will fail with "No 3d device found", when changing it to Directx 1-7 same error, but directx8 will make it run.
5) Yes, basically slowly started checking checkboxes to keep testing and never hit anything that worked.
http://pastebin.com/mCmP8XB8 you can download the trilogy ISOs from there. Since this game is an MMO it doesn't have any use for these ancient builds, this is mostly for emulation of the older builds.

I've got the game and started some testing.
On my PC the tutorial only works with "Voodoo5 (tm) Glide 3 Driver" startup choice. Chosing "Default video driver" just crashes the application. The Voodoo works than to a 3DFX emulator, though there are someproblems (see shots).
In effect, d3dwindower works pretty much the same in 3DFX emulation, but much better with the default driver.
I've got some work to do ....
