I am having this error while i am trying to create a "DVD player" format Video DVD from a mp4 file. It looks like create every folders for menu and so on, also the VIDEO_TS files, only the .iso will be missing. I am using Arch linux, fully updated, ffmpeg also installed. Here is my extraction from the debug file created on DeVeDeNG: DVDAuthor::dvdauthor, version 0.7.2. Build options: gnugetopt imagemagick iconv freetype fribidi fontconfig Send bug reports to <dvd...@li...> INFO: no default video format, must explicitly specify NTSC or PAL INFO: dvdauthor creating VTS STAT: Picking VTS 01 STAT: Processing /run/media/tyler/Helyilemez/movie/IPMAN1/menu/menu_0B.mpg... I would need store template in file structure whitch begin from root, named by DVD name. Subdirectories should be named by titles and store chapters in it by vob files [hard] linked to MPG files named as chapters. I would like authoring process just hard link prepared VOB files - I would not like have title merged in 1GB VOB files - I would need every chapter in separate file with existing limitation no more 9 chapters in each title in case. Example 1 I have many cam files. I would like make copies of these files to blue ray as is. It would be in file system: root directory named, for example, TRAVEL > subdir named as title name HOTEL - copy of VTS_01_1.VOB from original cam DVD - copy of VTS_01_2.VOB from original cam DVD ... - copy of VTS_01_9.VOB from original cam DVD > subdir named as title name OCEAN - copy of VTS_02_1.VOB from original cam DVD - copy of VTS_02_2.VOB from original cam DVD ... - copy of VTS_02_9.VOB from original cam DVD Example 2 based on video music clips. I have copies of favorite clips from my DVD colection. It could be: BEST OF ROCK (root directory - blue ray name) > LED ZEPPELIN (sub directory named by title name) - VTS_01_1.VOB - BLACK DOG.MPG ([hard] link to VTS_01_1.VOB) - chapter name ... - VTS_01_9.VOB - ROCK'N'ROLL.MPG ([hard] link to VTS_01_9.VOB) - chapter name ... > DEEP PURPLE (sub directory named by title name) - VTS_99_1.VOB - MASHINE HEAD.MPG ([hard] link to VTS_99_1.VOB) - chapter name ... - VTS_99_9.VOB - CHILD IN TIME.MPG ([hard] link to VTS_99_1.VOB) - chapter name Sent from Mail<https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=550986> for Windows 10 |

Hello I am getting an error while trying to use devede with linux mint 19. It is a fresh install and I contacted the author of devede and provided him with the debug data and he said there was a message about an error with dvdauthor and he could not fix it but to contact you instead. dvdauthor: dvdvob.c:1877: FindVobus: Assertion `p >= thisvob->vobu[i - 1].sectpts[1]' failed. seems to say it is a bug in dvdauthor, so I can't fix it. You should contact the authors of dvdauthor. Thanks Mark |

Error: "ERR: Too many colors in base picture" This error was driving me crazy. I was sure the PNG images I was providing to spumux had exactly 4 colors, no more, but I was still being held up with this error. I finally found out what was wrong. The issue: the height and/or width of some of my images was an odd number. First off, I had no clue that subtitle images had to have even-numbered dimensions, so if this is common knowledge and I'm just an idiot, then please disregard, it was my fault. However, if images with odd dimensions is permissible to spumux, then there might be an issue. In subgen-image.c, in the createimage() function. This function basically adds a row and/or column of transparent pixels to the image if necessary to create an image with even-numbered height and width. This seems harmless enough, but in my images, I did not have any fully transparent pixels (I was using colors with an alpha channel to get transparency). So this means that a fully transparent color was added to the palette that did not exist in the source image, and pushed me over the 4-color limit. The initial workaround is simple: make sure all your images have even-numbered dimensions, and no unexpected pixels/colors will be added to the palette. But in my case, this was not intuitive in the least. I know there's been very little traffic on this list over the last few years, so I don't know how many people actually care. Just thought I'd try to give back a little bit! Thanks! -- Ryan Morgan ry...@ry... |

No responses as of yet. Is this mailing list still alive? After some experimentation, was able to create a multipage menu; relevant part of the xml pasted in below. Also, a close reading of the dvdauthor documentation seemed to show that putting <pgc entry="title"> in the menu section of vmgm is the way to make the main menu accessible via the "top menu" button on the DVD remote. _______________________________________________________ <titleset> <menus> <video format="ntsc"></video> <!--<pgc entry="title">--> <pgc> <vob file="menu1.mpg"></vob> <button>jump title 1 chapter 1;</button> <button>jump title 1 chapter 2;</button> <button>jump title 1 chapter 3;</button> <button>jump menu 2 ;</button> <button>jump menu 3;</button> </pgc> <pgc> <vob file="menu2.mpg"></vob> <button>jump title 2 chapter 1;</button> <button>jump title 2 chapter 2;</button> <button>jump title 2 chapter 3;</button> <button>jump menu 3 ;</button> <button>jump menu 1;</button> </pgc> <pgc> <vob file="menu3.mpg"></vob> <button>jump title 3 chapter 1;</button> <button>jump title 3 chapter 2;</button> <button>jump title 3 chapter 3;</button> <button>jump menu 1 ;</button> <button>jump menu 2;</button> </pgc> </menus> <titles> <pgc> <vob file="Title_1_1.mp4"/> <vob file="Title_1_2.mp4"/> <vob file="Title_1_3.mp4"/> <post> call menu; </post> </pgc> <pgc> <vob file="Title_2_1.mp4"/> <vob file="Title_2_2.mp4"/> <vob file="Title_2_3.mp4"/> <post> call menu; </post> </pgc> <pgc> <vob file="Title_3_1.mp4"/> <vob file="Title_3_2.mp4"/> <vob file="Title_3_3.mp4"/> <post> call menu; </post> </pgc> </titles> </titleset> Quoting dvd...@li...: ______________________________________ > Message: 1 > Date: Mon, 10 Jul 2017 18:51:09 +0000 > From: gh...@ma... > To: dvd...@li... > Subject: [Dvdauthor-users] help with XML files > Message-ID: > <201...@ns...> > Content-Type: text/plain; charset=UTF-8; format=flowed; DelSp=Yes > > > Hello - > > I've been using dvdauthor for quite some time, but only for very simple > disks. Hello - I've been using dvdauthor for quite some time, but only for very simple disks. Current project is somewhat more complex. 1) Could someone please post an example of an XML file that includes a multipage menu, where each page of the menu includes a "play all" button, as well as scrolling buttons to the next and previous pages of the menu? 2) At least on my DVD player, the "top menu" button only seems to work if the first menu is listed in the VMGM section of the XML. Is this common? Thanks for any help - Curious George |

It’s been too long since DVDAuthor 0.7.1, so I thought I would announce another release, wrapping up all the little patches added since then. Nothing too major is new; from the ChangeLog: Various code-quality and build improvements Support “jump pgc n” and other interaction code-generation improvements Improve reliability of dvdunauthor Don’t force infinite pause on last cell of a PGC Allow specification of provider field in VMG IFO file Add video_format(7) man page Add padding to ensure .BUP and .IFO files end up in different ECC blocks Enabled hinting of rendered subtitle text Require cell start and end times (if specified) to be nonempty As usual, links to downloads, GitHub repo etc are at <http://dvdauthor.sourceforge.net/>. |

Hi Martin, possibly you use the old version of DVDStyler. I just checked the current one (v3.0.2) and it works correctly. If end time of all cells is set to auto (and only pause = 1 for the last one), dvdauthor.xml contains following cell times: <vob file="..."> <cell start="0:00" end="0:22" chapter="1"/> <cell start="0:22" end="0:59" chapter="1"/> <cell start="0:59" chapter="1" pause="1"/> </vob> Unfortunately there was another bug in current version: all entered end times are ignored if no other cell setting are changed. It's fixed in v3.0.3 beta 3 now. Cheers, Alex > There's one point, which may be more a problem of DVDStyler, > but also DVDAuthor behaves strange. > > DVDAuthor has a problem with playlists produced by DVDStyler. > Choosing the AUTO I think an empty string would be interpreted as a value of 0. This would never have worked. Why would DVDStyler be generating such a thing? I could put in an error check. Then running the above control file would fail. |

There's one point, which may be more a problem of DVDStyler, but also DVDAuthor behaves strange. DVDAuthor has a problem with playlists produced by DVDStyler. Choosing the AUTO option for the end of userdefined chapters, one gets in dvdauthor.xml an empty string for the end of the chapter: <titles> <video aspect="16:9" widescreen="nopanscan"/> <audio lang="DE"/> <!--************** TITLE 1 **************--> <pgc> <vob file="C:\dvd\tmp\\dvd-cache\entry002.vob" chapters="0:00,10:00,20:00,30:00,40:00,50:00,1:00:00,1:10:00,1:20:00,1:30:00"/> <post>if (g0==1) jump title 2;call menu entry root;</post> </pgc> <!--************** TITLE 2 **************--> <pgc> <vob file="C:\dvd\tmp\\dvd-cache\entry002.vob"> <cell start="10:00" end="" chapter="1"/> <cell start="30:00" end="35:00" chapter="1"/> <cell start="40:00" end="48:00" chapter="1"/> <cell start="50:00" end="" chapter="1"/> <cell start="1:00:00" end="1:12:00" chapter="1"/> </vob> <post>call menu entry root;</post> </pgc> </titles> I don't know, if there is any semantics for this in DVDAuthor. Anyway, DVDAuthor accepts it without warning, but procduces an chaotic output. OK, I have enabled hinting by taking out FT_LOAD_NO_HINTING. I have left out FT_LOAD_TARGET_MONO for now: the FreeType docs describe it as a “Strong hinting algorithm that should only be used for monochrome output. The result is probably unpleasant if the glyph is rendered in non-monochrome modes”. So I’m not sure what the likely interaction is with foreground/background colours... |

I know, it’s been too long since the last regular release. There have only been a few minor patches since then, but I guess it’s time to make them official. Anybody got any patches/issues they’ve been sitting on? Speak now, or ... it’ll be too late. |

DVD-Video only supports 4:3 or 16:9 aspect ratios. To handle video with some other aspect ratio without distortion, you must apply letterboxing (padding at the top and bottom, normally filled with black) or pillarboxing (padding at the sides). FFmpeg has the “pad” video filter that does this. For example, I had some video that not only had an ultrawide aspect ratio, but it had been encoded incorrectly so round circles were no longer round. So I had to fix this by resizing the video from its original 608×224, scaling up to the full available width of 720 pixels, with a correctly-adjusted height to match (I worked this out by careful measurement at 430 pixels). Then pad the result out to the full 720×576 for PAL-format DVD-Video, the complete conversion command looking like this ffmpeg -i «input video» -target pal-dvd -s 720x430 -vf pad=720:576:0:73 -aspect 16:9 -b 2500k output.mpg |

Hello, Normally using ffmpeg with -target ntsc-dvd or -target pal-dvd then following up with dvdauthor works great. But on something other than 4:3/16:9 for example if the aspect ratio is 2.40:1 then the resulting DVD has its aspect ratio changed and no longer looks good. What is the solution for this? rc |

Yes. I tried padding out the IFO and BUP files, and got major complaints from genisoimage. So it appears I just have to set the sector numbers, it will do the placement accordingly. (The draft patch I posted still has the padding code in it, which I should remove.) Question: do I need to round up the sector numbers for VTS_nn_0.{IFO,BUP} as well, or only for VIDEO_TS.{IFO,BUP}? The patch currently does both. Also, is my rounding calculation right? |

I think the expected behavior is that the sector number stored in VIDEO_TS.IFO file that determines where the BUP file will go is now guaranteed to be at least 32K away from the IFO file. When the ISO mastering software reads the IFO file, it should use that sector number and place the BUP at the correct location.
