DOSBox 0.71 quits on startup while reading the configuration file. The Windows Message Box says, "DOSBob.exe has encountered a problem and had to exit. Sorry for the inconvenience." I couldn't find a similar problem in your FAQ files. I read your readme file and changed the output parameter to all of the values that you listed: surface, overlay, opengl, openglnb, ddraw, and this didn't change anything. How can I pinpoint where DOSBox is having a problem? I tried inserting an ECHO command in the config file, hoping that the next command would be echoed to the DOSBox window, but it wasn't.

I'm attempting to run DOSBox under Windows XP Pro, under Parallels Desktop 3.0, Under MacOS 10.4.10. The computer is a 2.33 GH Intel Core 2 Duo, with 3 GB of 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM, of which 1.2 GB is assigned to Windows. Parallels emulates a SVGA card and soundblaster 16 sound card. Parallels uses the hardware emulaton feature of the Intel processor, so it's quite fast (only 10% slower that running Windows directly on the hardware). The actual display card is an ATI Radeon X1600 with 256 MB of memory, and the audio is Apple's built in high definition audio.

DOSBox 0.71 for Mac works well, except that Master of Orion II crashes every 20 to 30 minutes (using either of two different executables), while it runs fine, without crashing, under Crossover, emulating Windows 2000. Unfortunately I need DOS for MOO II to set up internet game play.

    Interesing discovery: The same problem appears when I attempt to run DOSBox under Crossover emulating Windows XP, also with the same lack of resolution when I cycle through all of the possible output parameter values. I also cycled through all of the scaler parameter values without resolving this problem. Also the problem with running Master of Orion II under DOSBox 0.71 Mac is not resolved by changing the memsize (16, 32, or 64 MB) or (machine) cycles parameter. It still crashes every 20 to 30 minutes, making it unsuitable for internet play. My suspicion is that MOO II crashes sporadically during an automatic backup of the game, as the tuming is about right, and there has been some updating of the game, but it starts a variable number of turns behind the crash turn.

    well you could try the current cvs or try the option
    joysticktype=none.
    There was a small bug in there that might trigger this behavior.
