I just noticed that Doom Episode 4 - Thy Flesh Consumed is missing from the menu
when running Doom Legacy 1.44 with the doom.wad file on Linux openSUSE 11.3.
When running Doom Legacy 1.42 on Mac OSX with the same doom.wad file all 4
Doom Episodes are in the menu. What gives?

I'm running the Doom Legacy 1.44 alpha1 Linux 2.4 32-bit version.

The wad recognition was extensively rewritten for 1.44 and has already been modified since alpha release, so there will be differences from 1.43. I tried Ultimate Doom and Ultimate-Freedoom and Episode 4 did appear, and I played it awhile. If you actually had a wad with an Episode 4, and the menu item did not appear, then that would be important. I think that Doom I only had three episodes, so only listing the Episodes present is correct. To override automatic wad recognition (which looks for certain lump names being present) then use the game switch ( -game doomu, -game doom2, etc.).
Please respond if the above does not cover the situation.

To tell me which wad you are using please describe the text on the splash screen,
and more details about it. The name doom.wad was used too many times. The wad recognition logic will check most of the doom variations when it gets the name doom.wad because it is a generic re-naming.

Verified that alpha release will mis-recognize Ultimate doom as DoomI when it is presented as doom.wad.
The latest revision, svn758, does correctly recognize Ultimate doom, even when it is presented as doom.wad, and Episode 4 is listed in the menu.

I grabbed a copy of the Trunk on 30Nov10 and rebuilt Doom Legacy from it.
Using it, I confirm that Episode 4 now does appear in the menu. Since I'm
the original poster of this bug, I confirm that it's fixed. Thanks.
