The problem is occurring much earlier than that: at the parse stage. So why is your text being parsed as a definition list? Definition lists recognition is triggered by an indented second line of a text block, like this: first line second line An indent as little as one space is enough. Is your text indented, and are you prepending something else? Check the output of the "pseudoxml" writer.
