Hello everybody, I'm happy to see that the Confluence wiki on http://www.hisp.info is working well now (also from here in Hue, Vietnam). I encourage everyone to help make it a vibrant documentation and collaboration platform. At the same time, I would very much like to revive this list, which has been sleeping for a long time. As a start, here are some links about leading edge web frameworks: For HTML interfaces, there are now some very interesting open source Java web frameworks, the primary ones being Tapestry (and the newer, simpler Wicket) og WebWork (used for Confluence). Lately, an alternative framework, Ruby on Rails has recieved a lot of attention, e.g on Slashdot http://developers.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=05/01/21/1514234&tid=156 What makes it very interesting is that one of the leading voices of the open source java community, Matt Raible, is fascinated by its simplicity, and so is Dave Thomas, of "Pragmatic Programmer" fame. This means it's probably worth a look for us also, esp. as we are looking for a rapid development of web data entry tool for places like Kerala. I include some links below, especially to Raible's blog, which I highly recommend as daily reading for everyone in DHIS2 development. He has recently blogged on both Rails, Maven and Jasper Reports. http://raibledesigns.com/page/rd/20050121 http://raibledesigns.com/comments/rd/sunsets/re_hype_ruby_on_rails#comments http://www.artima.com/weblogs/viewpost.jsp?thread=77745 http://www.loudthinking.com/arc/000399.html http://raibledesigns.com/comments/rd/sunsets/trails_like_rails_but_with Cheers, Knut |
