Hi all, Here is another request for snmpver 3. We would like to start monitoring with version 3 for security reasons. -----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hi folks, I'm fairly new to devmon and I have two questions. 1. Is there anybody out there fetching data from a Balabit appliance with devmon and willing to share the template files for this box? 2. Is it possible to fetch data from a device that requires authentication in other words snmpget needs to have '-u' '-l' and '-X'? If yes, where do I configure this? Hello, Would it be possible for you to roll a new devmon templates snapshot? The last one is from 2008. I'm adding devmon to FreeBSD ports and it would be great for users to have a relatively recent snapshot of the templates available without having to resort to pulling them from subversion. I think bi-yearly snapshots would be sufficient to keep up with development of device support. Thanks! |

Hi Mario, Thanks for your reply. (And the efforts you put into developing snmp v3 support for devmon.) I indeed found those emails from you and was hoping that it got implemented as a patch or so. Actually it's quite a bummer that is wasn't as I see more and more servers in the future will only be able to use snmp v3. I sure would like to keep using devmon as we are very satisfied about it. (Together with xymon) So I'm indeed interested in your patch/version. @Bucham: Is Mario allowed to send us this patch? According to the documentation the patterns are evaluated in the following order: ignore, only, alarm, noalarm. I haven't tried myself, but probably a default alarm pattern takes precedence over noalarm. > I have also tried > 192.168.4.7 ciscobswwan # > DEVMON:except(if_dsc;ifName;na:Gi3/0/[12-14]) Try something like Gi3/0/1[2-4]. What is in the template files cisco-3750/if_col/exceptions and cisco-3750/if_dsc/exceptions? Just to be sure: the Cisco-3750 ciscobswwan is a stack containing a member numbered 3? > The line I am using in the Xymon Hosts.cfg > file is as follows. > > 192.168.4.7 ciscobswwan # > DEVMON:except(if_dsc;ifName;na:Gi3/0/12|Gi3/0/13|Gi3/0/14) > > > I have also tried > > 192.168.4.7 ciscobswwan # > DEVMON:except(if_dsc;ifName;na:Gi3/0/[12-14]) This won't work, as you should specify a Perl regular expression, thus something like DEVMON:except(if_dsc;ifName;na:Gi3/0/1[2-4]) Regards, Wim Nelis. ****************************************************************************************************************** The NLR disclaimer is valid for NLR e-mail messages. Hi, I am trying to do an exception for if_dsc alerts on a Cisco 3750 Switch in Xymon, however the except does not seem to be honored. I have successfully used excepts for if_col, so I am not sure if there is an issue or if I simply cannot do an except on if_dsc. The line I am using in the Xymon Hosts.cfg file is as follows. 192.168.4.7 ciscobswwan # DEVMON:except(if_dsc;ifName;na:Gi3/0/12|Gi3/0/13|Gi3/0/14) I have also tried 192.168.4.7 ciscobswwan # DEVMON:except(if_dsc;ifName;na:Gi3/0/[12-14]) However that did not seem to work either. My line for if_col which does work looks like the following. (this device is also a 3750 switch) 192.168.4.9 ciscocswwan # DEVMON:except(if_col;ifName;na:Gi1/0/37|Gi1/0/38) Thank you for your assistance, Tim |

Hi, I need to tweak the logfetch code so it returns the last X characters of text in the syslog files. I though I had cracked it by modifying the MAXMINUTES constant, but after the 6 polling intervals the data just disappeared from the web page. What I would like is the basically the last X characters of text in the previous 24 hours displayed for my specified log files, minus the IGNORE lines. I'm a very amateur C# programmer and this is a production monitoring platform so I don’t want to break anything. Many Thanks, Ian. |

Hello, I've writed a snmp v3 version to devmon. I use this version to monitor the V3 appliances we have in our DC. I've sent my version and code changes to bucham about 2 or 3 years ago but he did not upload to the site. It was hack on the code to use the netsnmp library. I use my devmon v3 in a different proccess tree and I use this devmon version just for the v3 version. If you are interested and bucham don't oppose I can send it to you. Regards, Mario. I've asked about this too in the past and didn't hear/get much back. I think you're going to have to write an external script that reports back the the Xymon display. Hi, I found some historical information on somebody trying to implement snmp v3 within devmon, but I'm not able to find any downloads (patches/new devmon) about it. Has this been implemented, or are there plans to implement it within devmon? Reason for asking is that we currently have some new IBM servers installed that you can only get HW information from via snmp v3. Thanks Jeremy. I fixed that dumb mistake – it helps to have extra eyes :) It's still throwing the same error on the webpage - "missing repeater values…" so I'll keep trying to figure it out. To do this, define your alert with a SCRIPT method specifying your custom script that does what you need. The "what you need" bit depends on whether you're trying to clean up the email to make it readable in plain text, or to wrap the email so that it displays correct HTML in the recipient's mail client. The script might look like this: #!/bin/sh RECIP="$1" TMPFILE=`mktemp` cat > $TMPFILE if grep "</table>" >/dev/null; then { echo "Subject: message from Xymon" echo "Content-type: text/html" echo "" cat $TMPFILE } | $MAIL $RECIP else cat $TMPFILE | $MAIL $RECIP fi This script detects a "</table>" tag and then inserts a header that might tell the recipient's mail client that the message is in HTML format. Messages without tables will go through untouched. I suspect there's a bit more to get the messages in the correct format (might also need to add from, to and date headers) as well as adding the correct MIME headers. It's been a while since I did this type of thing and I have no examples to look at. But this can probably get you started. If you wanted to strip out all of the HTML and make it a readable table in a text-only message then the middle bit might instead look like this: { echo "Subject: message from Xymon" echo "Content-type: text/html" echo "" sed 's/<[^>]*>//g' $TMPFILE } | $MAIL $RECIP J On 25 January 2013 12:10, Ken Connell <kco...@ry...> wrote: > Not sure how I'd go about that....But I see what you mean. I saw both emails. Yes it's a bit disconcerting when you don't see your own post. I think your problem is not easy to solve. Perhaps you could have a custom mailer that reformats the email the way you want. J On 24 January 2013 11:41, Ken Connell <kco...@ry...> wrote: > Sorry if this is a double post.... Sorry if this is a double post.... I never seen the email bounce back via the list so I think my first attempt failed.... Is there any way to send nicely formatted emails from tests that are built via "TABLES". Example email of temperature alert/email on an Avaya stack: <table border=1 cellpadding=5> <tr><td>Unit Temperature</td></tr> <tr><td>&red 50.50</td></tr> <tr><td>&yellow 48.00</td></tr> <tr><td>&yellow 49.00</td></tr> <tr><td>&yellow 47.00</td></tr> <tr><td>&yellow 48.00</td></tr> <tr><td>&green 45.00</td></tr> <tr><td>&green 45.00</td></tr> </table> Ken Connell Intermediate Network Engineer Computer & Communication Services Ryerson University 350 Victoria St RM PODB50 Toronto, Ont M5B 2K3 416-979-5000 x6709 |
