Does anyone have / can point me in the direction of the xymon client that is referenced in the devmongraphtitles.pl script please? The only client I can find on the net doesn't support the method hobbitdlog. use Xymon::Client; . my $result = $bb->hobbitdlog("$hostname.$testname"); Regards Ben (apologies for previously posting this on the devel list by mistake) |

Anybody have a template for these? I have the basics working, but I'm trying to get clustering working. I'm thinking the HSRP isn't configured correctly on our routers, but my network person thinks they are. If they are then snmp for it is useless. Also, I don't have power or fans either. If anyone has anything close, I'm happy to hack on it. Also, is there a devmon equiv to TheShire, where people can share templates? A quick google didn't show up anything useful. I am using a patch to Devmon to solve this problem. It changes the name of the interfaced part of the RRD file name. This causes the alphabetical order to be the same as the numerical order. There is a drawback however. For some of the interfaces the RRD file name changes, causing new files to be generated once the patch is applied. If you do not want to loose the history, you need to save / restore / move those files. Anyway, you need to remove the RRD files with the unsed interface names in it, as they will mesh up the graphs on the Xymon page. The patch itself is: Index: dm_tests.pm =================================================================== --- dm_tests.pm (revision 13) +++ dm_tests.pm (revision 14) @@ -2022,6 +2022,11 @@ for my $leaf (@{$rrd{$name}{'leaves'}}) { my $pri_val = $oids->{$pri}{'val'}{$leaf}; $pri_val =~ s/\s*//g; + # + # Map Cisco interface names like "Fa1/0/1" onto "Fa1/0/01". I think the order that graphs are displayed is governed by the rrd_name_compare() function inside showgraph.c. This sorts numerically for RRD filenames that are all numeric, otherwise by strcmp() order. I think the rrd_name_compare() is actually comparing the captured component of the FNPATTERN expression in devmon-graph.cfg. This is defined as: FNPATTERN if_load.(.*).rrd So I suppose it might be possible to redefine this to be something like this: FNPATTERN if_load.Gi0/(.*).rrd Then the captured expression will be entirely numeric, and it MIGHT cause Xymon to sort numerically. Of course this is only useful to you if you only have Gi0/* interfaces. You might be able to force this code to sort correctly by tweaking the Devmon template to pad the interface names with zeroes, so that you have Gi0/01, Gi0/02 ... Gi0/09 before Gi0/10. Alternatively, you could tweak the rrd_name_compare() function in Xymon to suit your requirements. This would be a useful change to Xymon. I think the best long-term option is to develop and submit a Xymon patch to handle this case. You could adjust rrd_name_compare() so that it looks for and handles two strings that only differ by numerics, and compares numerically. This would be somewhat complicated. More simply, you could allow defining some kind of flag to specify numeric or ASCII sort order in a graphs.cfg file. It might work like so: FNPATTERN if_load.(.*).rrd SORTNUMERIC yes I think this could all be done within web/showgraph.c. But I'm not a C programmer, so would be difficult for me to do reliably. Hi all. Perhaps I'm just being lazy, but I'm looking for a way of changing how the default if_load graphs are displayed on Xymon/Devmon. Xymon version is 4.3.12 Devmon version is 0.3.1-beta1 What I want is for the graphs to be displayed in interface or numerical order, but, out of the box, Devmon and Xymon display the graphs sorted in alphabetical order. Normally this is not an issue, but it is slightly tedious to have to scroll through the graph for interface Gi0/1 then through Gi0/10, Gi0/11, Gi0/12, Gi0/13, Gi0/14, Gi0/15, Gi0/16, Gi0/17, Gi0/18 and Gi0/19 graphs to eventually get to Gi0/2. is there not a way to either adjust the interface so it reads Gi0/01, Gi0/02 etc or a flag to 'sort numerically'? Is this really a Devmon issue? If not, perhaps I should ask the same question of the Xymon mailing list? Thanks Martin |

We added Nexus switches sometime ago and I had to create new templates because the MIBs changed and the OIDs for several items were at new locations. For instance under cpu the sysReloadReason was no longer in the new Nexus MIB and CPUTotal5Min changed from : .1.3.6.1.4.1.9.9.109.1.1.1.1.5.1 --to-- : .1.3.6.1.4.1.9.9.109.1.1.1.1.8.1 There are a whole series of these changes which required identifying new OIDs. The real problem is that I could never find replacements for various description fields in the new Nexus MIBs. If anyone has been through this and has a complete template, I could use a copy. ......Bruce -----Original Message----- From: Ken Connell [mailto:kco...@ry...] Sent: Tuesday, August 20, 2013 8:15 PM To: dev...@li... Hi, You need to configure the specs file of the template, adding into it a piece of the sysdescr output. Please post the sysDescr 1.3.6.1.2.1.1.1.0 oid from your two Cisco devices. If you compare this output to what is in your ~devmon/templates/ciscoxxx/specs file you will see a sysdesc field. You need to have a text to match on in your sysDescr oid and this field for devmon to auto detect. I usually match something in the software version. -Kevin -----Original Message----- From: Raja Veeraswamy [mailto:raa...@ho...] Sent: Friday, August 16, 2013 2:19 AM To: dev...@li... Attached is something I whipped up while visiting a friend. It should work on more than just an Avaya 4500 -- the entire Nortel Baystack line should work as well as they're nearly identical devices. I'm sure it could use a little refinement, but it reports the important data. I didn't get a chance to investigate further about why some of the graphs don't work or add a few other features like Fan reporting, but the most important information is there! Hopefully someone can get some use out of this. |

This is not a bug in xymon. Your system is configured incorrectly. Sounds like you are using the rpms from http://terabithia.org/rpms/xymon/ There is a packaging bug in those rpms. See http://lists.xymon.com/pipermail/xymon/2013-March/037082.html for info on the cause and how to fix it. Even if you are not using the rpms, the fix still applies. Hope this helps. A disable works over reboots for me. Maybe that's a 4.3.8 issue. I'm on 4.3.10. I was thinking that disables were just kept in memory not disk. Maybe that change between .8 and .10? After a reboot of the xymon server, any of the disabled devices, always come back enabled. These should persist past a reboot. A reboot shouldn't invalidate the fact that I've knowingly disabled a device, or if it does, there should be an option to allow you to select disabled devices persist after reboot and/or restart. |

You Devmon ideas are pretty good. I don't think there is any development going on on it however. It has been stuck at 0.3 whatever for a very long time, on SourceForge. I would change to something else, but haven't found anything. As to your second question on Xymon. 2. Also, I've noticed a bug with xymon dates, currently if I disable an alert and I select say 6 months out, it marks the times as something nonsensical. For instance, I currently disabled a few hosts and chose disable until November 1, 2013, and they are saying disabled until Sat Jun 14, 14:13:44 1902. At some random time, usually a few days to a few weeks later, they re-enable themselves, which is annoying. I just read the 4.3.9 through 4.3.11 release notes, and the 4.3.9 release notes state "Fix error in disable-until-TIME or disable-until-OK code" Does this fix address the same bug I just described? We ran into this, but our setup was a bit unique. We have two proxy servers that also operate as backup servers. So they have the proxy function that sends to the primary server, but they also have a server function on port 1985 that the proxy also forwards too. That way if the primary goes down , they can take over. So there is a mismatch on how dates are handled in there somewhere. And we added to our disabling on the primary to inform the secondary's, i.e. sending the message on. Well, with the difference in handling the raw date data, we got into a cyclical issue of the primary telling the proxy, and the proxy sending it back. If you watched it, the disable time changed multiple times until it cleared itself. We upgraded to 4.3.10, but it still happened. Then I figured out, we don't want to tell the proxy, we want to tell the server. So we adjusted the primary to send the disable message to 1985 instead of 1984 and all was well. So, in short, 4.3.10 does help in this issue, and may fix what issues you have, but you may need some other work. |

I really like Xymon suggestion #3. Incidentally, the day after Thanksgiving code is still fouled up last I looked (4.3.10). From: taylor lewick [mailto:tl...@ap...] Sent: Friday, June 07, 2013 02:05 PM To: xy...@xy... <xy...@xy...>; dev...@li... <dev...@li...> Subject: [Xymon] devmon/xymon wishlist or feature requests Cross posting to both the devmon and xymon mail lists. The following features for devmon, would in my opinion, greatly extend/enhance the snmp monitoring capabilities of devmon/xymon. 1. Devmon should be able to poll different devices on different intervals. Having a global poll cycle is too limiting. For example, there may be a piece of critical SNMP data that you need to query on a device, but its limited to only one or two MIB objects. For SLA or other reporting purposes, you may need to poll every 10 seconds or 5 seconds. But for most other devices, or devices with large MIBs (Network switch) every 5 minutes might be sufficient. Such a setup would allow you to aggressively poll the devices you need to, while not causing SNMP responses to exceed the poll time on the other devices. We run into this issue now while trying to poll key devices, if we tighten the polling cycle, we start to get timeouts on our “larger” devices, as the latency over the VPN connection is a bit high. If this is something devmon supports, I am not aware of it, and I’ve used both single node and multimode (database based) versions. 2. Devmon should easily support logging any/all retrieved SNMP data to a database. I setup the multinode installation and saw the test_data table in mysql, and was excited as I thought the data would be logged there. Turns out no, and then after some researching looks like a method was started to be able to use it, i.e. dbtable. I downloaded the code from sourceforge, but was unable to get it to work. I think better integration or documentation of this feature would be very nice. Here the justification should be obvious, sometimes the RRD graphs aren’t sufficient for the granularity they provide, and having access to your SNMP data in a sql database can be very valuable/insightful. Again, if anyone knows how to do this, I’d love to find out more about how to implement it. Would like to request a disable/reenable all alerts via one button on the enable/disable screen. It should be smart enough so that if you already have some hosts disabled, then upon re-enabling the alerts those hosts still have their disable settings applied. We have some devices we monitor which degrade in poor weather, and when a big storm comes through it would be nice to just click one button and halt alerting. |
