Are there templates available for the Cisco routers in the subject? I would certainly prefer to have a working set, but in the meantime I'm trying to convert an existing template for the 3825. I collected all of the SNMP data from the 3825 and there is no indication of any CPU data being available. I'm going to guess I'm out of luck to get CPU info, but I wanted to make sure... :) -- Rich Smrcina VM Assist, Inc. I am trying to transform an Integer that represents the number of seconds an IPSec tunnel has been active. Found a not-so-little bug in the validate_deps subroutine. Basically if you were a using a transform with more than one non-repeater oid in the transform message, the resulting transformed oid would always have a color value of 'clear' (yikes). A good example would be the BEST transform used during the apc 'power' tests. The devmon tarball on sf.net has been updated, but in case you already downloaded the beta version and just want to patch it, please use the attached file. -Eric > -----Original Message----- > From: dev...@li...=20 > [mailto:dev...@li...] On=20 > Behalf Of Schwimmer, Eric E *HS > Sent: Tuesday, March 06, 2007 7:51 PM > To: dev...@li... > Subject: [Devmon] devmon 0.3.0 beta1 released >=20 >=20 > Haha, I lied! Haha, I lied! I said it would be in a couple of days, didn't I? My wife is out of town until Sunday, so that leaves me with a lot of time on my hands that I don't know what to do with. Well, anyways, here's the first beta. It has been running on our cluster here for a few days without too much pain, but some of the new features haven't been thoroughly tested. You have been warned :) That being said, here's the change log. Not really much to say for the 8+ months since the last release, but it's better than nothing: Devmon v0.3.0 :: Release date TBA Changed: - Moved templates to their own distribution file and added several community-created templates (with proper kudos noted in each template) - Changed UNPACK transform type to support more complicated (and powerful) unpack expressions, and separator characters. - Changed the way numeric primary keys are sorted in tables to allow numeric ascending sorts for multi-level leaves. - Changed the docs/INSTALLATION to clarify how DEVMON operates. - Removed the .rrd OID flag and replaced it with an RRD table option. - Recoded most translation subroutines to optimize performance - Added more debug output, and defined the --debug flag in the help output Added: - Added a timeout watchdog for all transforms, set at 5 seconds. - Added ability to specify SNMP port that a particular device uses - Added bi-directional communication with the hobbit server, allowing the client to avoid testing against devices which hobbit recognizes as unreachable (i.e. a red 'conn' test). - Added CHAIN transform, which allows you to chain OIDs together - Added ability to display template threshold values in devmon output Bugfixes: - Fixed DBHOST config file entry so that it allows non alpha-numeric characters (which was preventing people from using FQDN hostnames). - Fixed cisco 3500 templates to correctly translate ifc speed - Fixed REGSUB transform to work on leaf OIDs (Gaetan Frenoy) |

Hrm. A malformed template definitely shouldn't cause devmon to crash. If you can reproduce the error, would you mind running devmon with the --debug and -vvv flags and sending the last few pertinent lines to me? In theory it *should* work, since they both use the same message passing protocol. I only ran bb4 for a few months before we transitioned to hobbit (I'll firmly state that I prefer hobbit :), and I hadn't really started working on devmon at that point. =20 However, I did try to make devmon backwards compatible with bb4, but haven't tested it in a production environment, so your mileage may vary. If someone would like to give it a go, I'd be willing to try and fix any bugs that will inevitably creep up. -Eric > -----Original Message----- > From: dev...@li... Hum. Sounds like devmon is hanging somewheres. I've been thinking of wrapping the transform code with an alarm function to prevent this from happening (I've had this problem myself after writing a few bad templates). I'll be rolling out the beta version of devmon 3.0 in the next day or so (I promise!), and I'll throw that code in there. If it's a devmon bug, we can fix it up before the final 3.0 release. :) -Eric > -----Original Message----- > From: dev...@li... I've been searching the list archives but haven't found any information on the issue I'm having. Basically, after a random amount of time (anywhere from a few days to a week), all of my SNMP tests go purple. I'm using the latest Hobbit, by the way. Looking at the log file, it still seems to be running in the background, but apparently none of that data is getting sent to the display server, which is the same server running devmon. A pkill and restart of devmon fixes the problem every time, but I cannot figure out why it's failing in the first place. I just tried running a ./devmon -vvvvv yesterday, but when I checked today, even though I am still getting data to Hobbit, the log file is no longer being appended to anymore. Anyone else having this problem? |

Hello all, I have a question about Devmon performances on huge networks. I saw in the config file that there were a lot of different times and interval to configure. I understood pretty well what they mean but I have no really ideas of how they could influence the Devmon behavior on polling. The point is that I want to get the data from my pollings just in time so that the tests do not turn red or white. Another point would be to save resource on the device running Devmon and also not to have too long polling time. The idea is to collect date about your configurations a brief description of your network type and the reasons of your choices so that beginners like me can set up their mind about their most comfortable configurations. Hello all, I tried and made work Devmon by yesterday after experiencing some still unidentified issues I have come to make it work properly. I must say to the originators of this tool that it is really a good one (maybe one of the best for Hobbit). This morning is started writing some templates which can be available to people who need them and I experience another crash. While I was writing templates, devmon main daemon (the master one) crashed silently. I guess the error comes from the fact that it experienced an unexpected token while reading the "being written" template files. Has anyone already seen such event? Do we really need to stop and restart devmon when importing a new template? Etienne Marganne TI Automotive. I just recently joined this group and have searched the archives trying to figure out how to get graphs to show up for devmon in hobbit. I read on the hobbit discussion board that the topic was discussed here, and that someone sent instructions out. If so, can someone forward me (or the group) a repeat of these instructions. If not, anyone care to share how they did it? I imagine it has something to do with NCV. Robert |

Hello Michael Well now it works for me. But I got that error several times, I mean during more than an hour. I will let you know the probable source of the problem which is not the template or the SNMP version. I increase the poll time to 300 seconds with a cycle time of 60sec, 5sec= for timeout and 2 retries. I think that it is not necessary to put a poll time shorter than the interval to read the bb-hosts file. Regards Etienne Marganne TI Automotive. -----Original Message----- From: dev...@li... Some times... I run into the same thing.... This only happens on switches/routers when the CPU is at like 70% plus and it gets a SNMP request from the server... It rarely happens manually with snmpget command, but I was able to replicate the error while doing an snmpget... let me know what you find.. I adjusted some of the timeout settings in devmon to allow more time for the device to respond... thanks, michael Michael A. Hrm. A quick peek at the template shows that it is set up to use v1 by default. (i.e. the 'snmpver' variable in the specs file is set to '1'). Could you run devmon in verbose debugging mode and send me the output from a single run? (devmon -vvv -d -p). Thanks. -Eric > -----Original Message----- > From: dev...@li...
