Unfortunately we can't use a newer patch-o-matic, because the netfilter team only maintains 2.6 patches in the newer releases. If you build DL yourself, you just need to apply the patch and put the dge-528t_GPL_release-Sources_ALL_en.tar.gz package into the src-extra directory and then start a build... I never sent the patch to the developer list because it adds an extra service in the build system for just one small driver. Also, this would become obsolete with Kernel 2.6 and Heiko and the others are working hard towards that goal (btw, I'd really love to help on that, I just don't have the time and will not have in the next 6 months) So, everyone feel free to use my patch. cu Roland PS: Theoretically, it would be possible to load a module built against another kernel version into your current kernel ( insmod -f ). Since Kernel 2.4 is not undergoing great changes, it might be possible for you to load my compiled module into your kernel. It's a little risky, but if you want, I can send it... > Hi, > I also tryed several modules for D-Link DGE-528T on 1.2.13 without success. > I attached to this mail the files from the vendor's CD with sources for > building modules for linux, i hope you can use them to make it work with > DL. -- ICQ UIN 49339118 Linux Counter #88774 GPG-Key 1024D/59C6AFA6 2003-02-07 Roland Pabel <ro...@pa...> |

So, I've "remotely looked" in the wrong machine and guessed the wrong module name. Excuse me! To be brief, the machine with the DGE-528T uses this other module: sk98lin Hope it helps Michele |

In comparison with DL 1.2 (2.4 kernel) there are some advantages - more hardware supportable, some packages are on frontier of technology (active-active firewall), more options for netfilter, AoE (and iSCSI in the nearest future) and some disadvantages - absence of grsecurity patch/selinux, some packages are not up-to-date... Hello Heiko, yes, there exists a specific hardware problem concerning the Ethernet controllers. At the moment sidux (kernel 2.6.22.3) is running on my small box (VIA Cpu, 2 x RTL-8169SC Gigabit Ethernet Controllers) and as driver it uses "r8169.ko" successfully; in devil-linux there is a driver "r8169", if I remember well, which doesn't seam to work. Secondly I'd rather prefere to use "iptables" than "ipchains". Regards, Rudolf |

Hello all on the list, I'm new to this list. I intend to install devil-linux on a small box as a firewall with mail- and web-servers, but up to now I did only some trials, but did'nt realize it consequently. Some weeks or months ago somebody on this list gave the advice: "Wait until kernel 2.6". I suppose this has been ment as a joke, but earnestly: Is there any realistic chance to get a devil-linux with kernel 2.6 within the foreseeable future? Greetings, Rudolf |

I have a pair of HP Small Form Factor acting as DL OpenVPN clients in remote sites and the do have as the "WAN" NIC a Dlink DGE-528T that I use because it has the short mount bracket that allows it to fit in the SFF case. And currently I'm running these two boxes with DL 1.2.13 and the module I load is the rtl8139too one, which is included by default in DL. It works quite well, so why don't you try it? I don't see why it shouldn't work for you as well. I'm trying to put some static HTML files to apache's DocumentRoot and building a new iso. But it doesn't work. I'm using the custom-cd script and the directoy 'new', which contains all new directories and files, but after building the iso, the files are not there. What I'm doing wrong?? Putting the etc.tar.bz2 file on the CD doesn't work as well..... |

I too run 2 copies in VMs on ESX and for the most part it works great, but = I have problems with network traffic going from a one interface to another = when the interfaces have different VLAN configurations. E.g. from a trunk i= nterface to a non-trunked interface, Guest Tagging of VLAN packets, UDP tr= affic suffers greatly. No problems if both are trunk ports, or both are non= -trunked. Have not got round to testing the latest DL too see if it has the same issu= e. Regards, John Jore ________________________________________ From: dev...@li...
