hi everyone, I try to use DL as a DNS server (only that purose) so have only one network card installed. bind9 is workig well in a jail but I can't "bind" it to the gateway, so the server is not visible outside my LAN - the DNS server should be accessible form the Internet. it looks for me that there is no GATEWAY parameter in the setup --> network configuration for any interface. routing procedures do not execute, as I have only one network card installed... any suggestions how to solve the problem? It's been a while I worked with PCMCIA, but as far as I recall you have to disable the Kernel PCMCIA support for pcmcia-cs to work. pcmcia-cs brings all the necessary modules with it. -- Regards Heiko Zuerker http://www.devil-linux.org |

I think kernel is not compiled with PCMCIA support: grep PCMCIA DL-kernel-config # PCMCIA/CardBus support # CONFIG_PCMCIA is not set # CONFIG_PARPORT_PC_PCMCIA is not set # CONFIG_PHONE_IXJ_PCMCIA is not set # Prism54 PCI/PCMCIA GT/Duette Driver - 802.11(a/b/g) So cardmgr says> "No pcmcia driver in /proc/devices." And of course, there is no PCMCIA support. O.K. I am trying hard to compile a new one with PCMCIA support, but I have not succeeded yet .... ---------------------------------------------------------------- This message was sent using IMP, the Internet Messaging Program. |

Hi all, I need some help. I've just seached through this mailing-list, but I have not found I want. So I Would like to use DL on an old Laptop with PCMCIA network Cards. I have just tested Sentry, which development stopped in 2005, but Sentry with older kernel than DL uses, can use Realtek based (8139cp, 8139too) PCMCIA netwok card. So I tried recompile 2.4.35.2 kernel with PCMCIA enabled, and I build a custom DL, but no any modules works. Modules which had been working also stopped loading. Thanks George ---------------------------------------------------------------- This message was sent using IMP, the Internet Messaging Program. |

> Ok, I see what you mean, but when the service is shutdown or restarted, the changed files should be copied back, right? As it is now, as soon as the jail breaks, all changes are lost. If I use BIND in a jailed environment in another Linux distribution, the changes are written to the zone files. Is there any parameters or such that I have missed which I need to configure to make this happen? I really can't have the changes go lost every time BIND is restarted, having to wait for an update from the master DNS when the master could be offline. > Copying the files back when BIND is shutdown would help, but if there is an abnormal shutdown or power outage, the changes would still be lost. Copying the files back periodically with cron would be another option. Or perhaps setting up a permanent chroot directory so the permanent location is the same as the chroot location? I don't know the best solution. One quick solution would be to turn off the chroot jail. - BS |

When you start BIND, it copies the zone files to a temporary location in the change-root/jail directory structure. Changes are made there, not in the original directory. Every time you restart the service, it copies over the original zone files to the chroot env, so your changes appear to be lost. - BS |

Hi, =20 I'm having some problems with running bind in a jailed environment. I = have several slave zones, which is updated from the master server, = currently not using dnssec simply to eliminate as many sources of errors = as possible. =20 The problem I'm having is that bind isn't writing the updates to the = zone files. The zones are transferred properly and I can resolve the = newly added hosts, however as soon as I restart the service the changes = are lost since no file is written. Is this a known bug/feature of = devillinux when using jailed environment? =20 Ps: I'm not getting any errors at all from bind, so I assume that bind = belives it has written the files properly. =20 med v=E4nliga h=E4lsningar Mikael Schmidt IT-konsult IXX IT-Partner AB Helsingborgsv 60, 262 72 =C4ngelholm Tel: 0431 - 44 51 00 Fax: 0431 - 195 80 www.ixx.se <http://www.ixx.se>=20 =20 |

I looked thru the network script more accurately to define how the $MODULE is used:
grep MODULE /etc/init.d/network
MODULE=
MODULE_OPTS=
if [ -n "$MODULE" ]; then
modprobe $MODULE $MODULE_OPTS > /dev/null
Well, it really leads to error.
Let me suggest the following changes:
--- /etc/init.d/network 2008-01-17 11:13:18.816886600 -0500
+++ /tmp/net 2008-01-17 11:25:25.803589123 -0500
@@ -175,7 +175,11 @@
#
if [ "$ONBOOT" = "yes" -o "$ONLY_INTERFACE" = "$IF" ]; then
if [ -n "$MODULE" ]; then
- modprobe $MODULE $MODULE_OPTS > /dev/null
+ if [ $(echo $MODULE | wc -w) -gt 1 ];then
+ modprobe -a $MODULE > /dev/null
+ else
+ modprobe $MODULE $MODULE_OPTS > /dev/null

fi
It should work. I've checked it on my system (DL 1.3) and I shall be vastly
obliged if you verify it on DL 1.2

Anyway, I removed my previous changes and the card is visible specifying the ne2k-pci driver only. Many thanks *am* |
