Hey, I don't think there's an elegant way right now. You can always just create your own init script from the /etc/init.d/skeleton file and make sure it starts early, then you don't have to worry about it being overwritten by an update. I would wait with changing the init script, Bruce was planing on replacing the scripts. Is that still correct Bruce? -- Regards Heiko Zuerker http://www.devil-linux.org Quoting "Rudner, Björn" <br...@ba...>: > Hi List, I'm using DL with heartbeat - ldirector and apache for a long time now. Now I'm doing some tests with upgrades from the "old" /etc to the "new" /etc - storage. One thing that I ran over on this is the following: Since I use Apache as an active/active-cluster on two boxes I need to assign a whole bunch of secondary IP-addresses (right now > 20 virtual-IP-Addresses) to the Loopback-Interface. (Ldirector routes these from one node to the other and therefore the IP-Adresses must be known there internally - Also the Apaches bind to these addresses.) Heartbeat then removes them from the Loopback and assings them to the physical interface and issues an arp-update to the connected routers on the active node. On the other hand it removes these IP-adresses from the physical NIC and assignes it back to the Loopback as the node goes standby. At the moment I have just added some "ip addr add" commands to /etc/init.d/localnet. The adresses must be known before apache and heartbeat starts (else heartbeat will not move them back to loopback when the node goes standby) Since this is a quick & dirty method I also have to keep an eye on that file on every DL-update (it is not choosen to be kept by default on updates) Now to my question: Is there already a smarter way (I may have overlooked) to assign secondary IP-addresses to the loopback interface early in the boot-process without the need to change the init-scripts? If there is not I might try to rework the localnet-script to reflect those needs to keep this update-save. Hi List, I'm using DL with heartbeat - ldirector and apache for a long time now. I would give the firewall a FIXED local ip (on the 192.168.1.0 network). I am not sure the default firewall.rules script can deal with DHCP interfaces (I may be wrong there). If you are really seeing etho1 (notice the extra 'o') then grep for that in you config files and change that by eth1 or eth0 (depends on what is failing). I am not sure where else to look though. Subject: [Devil-Linux-discuss] Okay A Problem I'm a Newbie Alright I know this is probably going to be a Dumb Little Mistake i'm making, but I cannot figure it out. Alright so I know what you guys are going to say, just buy a router, I'm NOT buying a router, I'm doing it this way ok.. :) Alright I have 2 computers that I want to have internet to. I have a hub, and I also am using one of my old pentium 2's for a firewall. My connection goes like this The internet -> My Cable Modem -> My Fire-Linux firewall -> Hub -> Both of my computers Alright so I configured my firewall, I have 2 Ethernet cards, like your supposed to. One goes in, one comes out :) So heres my problem. The Firewall seems to get my connection fine, I can ping google, and whatnot from the Firewall, I have the Incoming Ethernet card set To Receive the Ip Automatically, and the 2nd Ethernet card to send out ( Hopefully ) the connection, being my own DHCP and assigning ips to the other computers. When I get on my computer, it will not let me get on the internet, It can't "acquire" It's own IP from the server , and I can't get on the internet :( What Am I doing wrong. I have the correct modules for each ethernet card ( they are the same type of card ) I do get one error on startup saying something about etho1, although It never gives me enough time to read it fully. Something about etho1 IPv4]SIOCSIFADDR : No Such Device I have these services enabled, Beep :) Firewall IPV6_Routing Routing And my DHCP is all set up correctly i believe. Dns server is 192.168.0.1 Then optional then it goes 1st ip 192.168.0.11 2nd is 192.168.0.20 Then my default gateway 192.168.1.254 I didn't think that matters, but I need a fix please, and thank you. -Derek ------------------------------------------------------------------------ - This SF.net email is sponsored by: Microsoft Defy all challenges. Alright I know this is probably going to be a Dumb Little Mistake i'm making, but I cannot figure it out. It's not obvious what's wrong but your range is misconfigured (or there's a typo
in your email):

range [ dynamic-bootp ] low-address [ high-address];
It could also be there is another dhcp server appearing on the net and confusing
things. Does one of your workstations run dhcp perhaps?
The lease itself is for 10 days but the

If there is no dhcp server then what happens depends on the client. Some
clients allocate an address in the 169 range for example and some continue to
use the old address and some just don't ...

I don't know why the permissions are different. What happens if you delete
dhcpd.leases~ ? It should get recreated.

I am having problems with Devil Linux 1.2.14. I installed from devil-linux-1.2.14-i686-SMP-server.tar.bz2 download. I am not sure if it is a hardware problem or compatibility issue or just a simple setting I am missing. The only service I really need is DHCP for a small guest network and then SSH for management. I like the idea of using a small distro like this for this purpose but I am having problems getting it to work. If I boot up DevilLinux on the pc that as acting as a DHCP server and immediately have workstations power up they get a lease no problem. If DL is running for awhile and a workstation powers up or reboots they usually don't get a lease. The lease itself is for 10 days but the workstation will not have a valid address on the network if the DL pc is down. My /etc/dhcpd.conf reads as follows: authoritative; default-lease-time 864000; max-lease-time 864000; lease-file-name "/etc/dhcpd.leases"; get-lease-hostnames false; use-host-decl-names on; ddns-update-style none; option domain-name "guestdomain.com" option subnet-mask 255.255.255.0; subnet 192.168.0.0 netmask 255.255.255.0 { option domain-name-servers X.X.X.X; option routers Y.Y.Y.Y; option broadcast-address 192.168.0.255; range 192.168.0.100 192.168.0.1 } When I look for the lease file I see two in /etc/ dhcpd.leases and dhcpd.leases~ dhcpd.leases has -rw-r--r-- dhcpd.leases~ has -rwxrwxrwx I am running this on an older HP vectra. When I tried to install on a newer but still old HP e500 PC the install program couldn't find the module for the on board network card which it identified as an Intel 82801. Assuming I could find a driver can they be added to DL or am I better off buying a different nic in which case which one is the best to try for? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. -Chris. |

>> NOTES of a 1370 install under GENTOO LINUX <<
Here are detailed notes from installing a 1371 under gentoo, which
took me quite a while.
They may of some use. I'm not done much with DL, except use it as a
great stand-alone router.
I understand the drivers should be loaded automatically (& I think
intelligently) if compiled as modules,
but it seemed safer to compile them in directly
Assuming the kernel source is installed:
to recompile the kernel
cd /usr/src/linux
make menuconfig
SELECT:
Device Drivers -> Sound ->
<* > Sound card Support
<*> Advanced Linux Sound Architecture
in this I enabled most everything like the OSS options
PCI devices
<*> (Createive) Ensoniq AudioPCI 1370 [about
1/2 way down, right next to my 1370]
just to be safe, I turned on the 1371 as well
make && make modules_install
cp arch/x86_64/boot/bzImage /boot/kernel-2.6.24-gentoo-r5
x86_64 for the AMD64 , you may need another image
& update lilo or grub
The results of menuconfig are stored in ".config", so I keep copies
of it named with the same postfix as I name the matching kernel in /boot
Since I'm using gentoo w/ AMD64, I reference the compile instructions in
http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/handbook/handbook-amd64.xml?part=1&chap=7
but there's all similar
You may need to Install alsa-oriented packages.I ran emerge (gentoo's
version of apt-get)
on everything that looks like it might be relevant. I've the 1371. I
can get sound from use mp3blaster
& mplayer, but not from ogg123. I don't understand why. I also needed
to use the
"t" option in mp3blaster to toggle thru the mixer options to make sure
everything was
turned up. Installing alsamixer & turning up the vol on everything
may be useful as well.
vmware under gentoo does not see any sound card.
I put in the 1371 card afterI having no success using the MB audio.
Good luck,
Chip
