This email is to inform you of release '1.11a25' of 'cdrecord' through freshmeat.net. All URLs and other useful information can be found at http://freshmeat.net/projects/cdrecord/ The changes in this release are as follows: This version introduces structural changes to prepare for new features. OS/2 is once again supported. Cdrecord no longer allows writing to CD-RW media that cannot be used with the writer in use. It now prints write mode when starting up, a cdda2wav core dump on Solaris (if compiled with gcc) was fixed, and Isoinfo Joliet recognition now deals with buggy media written by Adaptec software. Project description: Cdrecord creates home-burned CDs with a CD-R/CD-RW recorder. It works as a burn engine for several applications. Cdrecord supports CD recorders from many different vendors; all SCSI-3/mmc and ATAPI/mmc compliant drives should also work. Supported features include IDE/ATAPI, parallel-port, and SCSI drives, audio CDs, data CDs, and mixed CDs, full multi-session support, CD-RWs (rewritable), TAO, DAO and human-readable error messages. Cdrecord includes remote SCSI support and can access local or remote CD-writers. This email is to inform you of release '3.4p1' of 'Portable OpenSSH' through freshmeat.net. All URLs and other useful information can be found at http://freshmeat.net/projects/openssh/ The changes in this release are as follows: This version fixes a major security vulnerability which exists in versions 2.9.9 to 3.3. Systems running with "UsePrivilegeSeparation yes" or "ChallengeResponseAuthentication no" are not affected. The 3.4 release contains many fixes that were made during a week-long audit started when the recent security issue came to light. Some of those fixes are likely to be important security fixes. Therefore, upgrading to 3.4 is recommended. Project description: This is a Unix/Linux port of OpenBSD's excellent OpenSSH. OpenSSH is a full implementation of the SSH1 protocol and a 99% implementation of the SSH 2 protocol, including sftp client and server support. ### This an automated CD build ### From Bernards System: http://www.bablokb.de/bblcd/ BBLCD will allow you to take a Linux partition and put it onto a CDROM. When you boot any PC with the CDROM, you will be in the same environment as the original Linux partition but it will not use the hard disk. There are some restrictions: * The PC needs RAM to copy the /var and /home directories into ramdisk.. * If your kernel is optimized for a specific hardware, it will not neccessarely run on another PC. * The same is true for mouse and X11 configuration. * Files not in /var and /home will not be modifiable once on the CDROM. * You need another Linux partition to copy the one you want to the CDROM. ### This is a build that compiles as it is installed ### From: http://www.lrs-linux.org/ What Is LRs Linux? LRs-Linux is based upon LFS. In contrast to LFS however you do not need another Linux system to compile since LRs Linux compiles directly from the CD. What's more the installation process is mostly automated. LRs Linux isn't your usual Linux distribution: Most distributions are using some kind of packaging system, with their binaries compiled for a wide range of processor types. LRs Linux DOESN'T! LRs Linux compiles directly from CD, the operating system installed this way matches your automatically detected hardware architecture perfectly. This means: More performance. ===== John van Vlaanderen ############################################# # CXN, Inc. Maybe ~I~ should work on it while ~you~ are on vacation. There is a cd build kit: ## BBLCD is the acronym for Bernhard's Bootable Linux CD. http://www.bablokb.de/bblcd/ ## I looked at it briefly, you give it a linux (presumabely DL) and it gives you a bootable CD. It includes an ASCII "Tux the Penguin" changes colors as you go along. ===== John van Vlaanderen ############################################# # CXN, Inc. -----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hey, currently you have to reverse engineer DL. You have to modify the contents of the InitRD, the file /etc/initrd/linuxrc is not used, but it's the same file we use in the InitRD. You have to move the loading of the etc.tar.bz2 after the mounting of the CD. But keep in mind, that this will only work with IDE CD drives. This email is to inform you of release '2.1.5' of 'Cyrus IMAP server' through freshmeat.net. All URLs and other useful information can be found at http://freshmeat.net/projects/cyrusimapserver/ The changes in this release are as follows: This release includes a large number of bugfixes and stability improvements. sieve is no longer dependent on duplicate delivery suppression. A much faster RENAME command was implemented. Improvements were made in the included utility programs. Project description: The Cyrus IMAP is generally intended to be run on sealed servers, where normal users are not permitted to log in. The mailbox database is stored in parts of the filesystem that are private to the Cyrus IMAP system. All user access to mail is through the IMAP, POP3, or KPOP protocols. The private mailbox database design gives the server large advantages in efficiency, scalability, and administratability. Multiple concurrent read/write connections to the same mailbox are permitted. The server supports access control lists on mailboxes and storage quotas on mailbox hierarchies, multiple SASL mechanisms, and the Sieve mail filtering language. If you would like to cancel subscription to releases of this project, login to freshmeat.net and choose 'home' from the personal menubar at the top of the page. You'll be presented with a list of projects you're subscribed to in the right column, which you may cancel by highlighting the project in question and clicking the 'delete' button. Sincerely, freshmeat.net |

This email is to inform you of release '2.4.19-rc1' of 'Linux' through freshmeat.net. All URLs and other useful information can be found at http://freshmeat.net/projects/linux/ The changes in this release are as follows: Project description: Linux is a clone of the Unix kernel, written from scratch by Linus Torvalds with assistance from a loosely-knit team of hackers across the Net. It aims towards POSIX and Single UNIX Specification compliance. It has all the features you would expect in a modern fully-fledged Unix kernel, including true multitasking, virtual memory, shared libraries, demand loading, shared copy-on-write executables, proper memory management, and TCP/IP networking. Hi, I spent all of yesterday and today trying to do the build. I am not sure where to begin, but the most troubling is the diskspace problem. I created 1.5 gigs of space and the make iso still complained that there is no disk space. I did a df and there were 500 MB available and the end of the build. The build claimed to be successful even though there were multiple errors along the way. Doing each build is too time consuming because there are so many packages, most of which I dont need. My honest opinion is that we should begin at the beginning and step through the whole process to make sure all the documentation is clear and that the scripts truly exit on failure. I believe that "make" is only useful in the compliling process. Shell is far easier to use and much better understood by the majority of admins and very easy to manipulate. Sections of shell code can be recycled into other applications. Kshell provides for menues, etc, and is publically available. Any ideas ??
