This email is to inform you about the release of version '2.0-rc1' of 'grsecurity' through freshmeat.net. All URLs and other useful information can be found at http://freshmeat.net/projects/grsecurity/ The changes in this release are as follows: With this release, a milestone in the project has been reached. It is now possible to create a policy for the entire system with no configuration. The system performs a complex graph and heuristic analysis to create the policy, and then undergoes an automatic policy audit and correction to ensure the policy is truly least privilege. Learning for an entire role or a single process is supported as well. Project description: grsecurity is a complete security system for Linux 2.4 that implements a detection/prevention/containment strategy. It prevents most forms of address space modification, confines programs with least privilege via its process-based MAC system, hardens syscalls, provides full-featured auditing, and implements many of the OpenBSD randomness features. It was written for performance, ease-of-use, and security. The MAC system has an intelligent learning-mode, and all of grsecurity supports a feature that logs the IP of the attacker that causes an alert or audit. If you would like to cancel subscription to releases of this project, login to freshmeat.net and choose 'home' from the personal menubar at the top of the page. You'll be presented with a list of projects you're subscribed to in the right column, which you may cancel by highlighting the project in question and clicking the 'delete' button. Does anyone have or created a Feature Roadmap for DL V1.0? I Looked on the website and found a small discritpion of wanted features, but not specifically for version 1.0.. What is missing? Just need to know so I can spend my time effeciently. A standard compile turns the PHP CLI file size to be about 3Megs. I don't know if that is stripped or not. But there are plenty of features and functions that can be disabled. I've figured that I can get the file size down to be about 1 to 1.5 Megs in size. > > > > I guess Axis did choose PHP3 because of the lower memory footprint > > than PHP4. > > Could be. I was afraid a Perl monger would want to write it. :-) (I don't care for Perl) I'm also not sure that Apache is necessary. It would be nice to get by with a smaller web server that supports PHP. I don't think the web interface needs many of the advanced features offered by Apache. But, I could be wrong. I've only have experience with Apache ... > > Perhaps we could work together on the web interface? > > > I would like that.... I'll send out some ideas that I have to get one > up quickly and also be usefull... Yes. I think a first step would be to decide what should go into the web interface, what should stay in the ncurses setup, and what should go in both places. As an example, I think setting up the basic functions, like network cards, language, keyboard, etc. (stuff you normally only do once) should stay in the ncurses setup. I think setting up more advanced services (dhcpd, iptables, CIPE, ...) should go in the web interface. - BS |

Not that I know of, but IIRC the last time when I added support for a selection of netfilter extra patches I think I enabled the H323 nat/conntrack patch. See scripts/config/config-netfilter-extra an then look up the description at http://www.netfilter.org/documentation/pomlist/pom-extra.html Yes the extra/h323-conntrack-nat patch is enabled, see http://www.netfilter.org/documentation/pomlist/pom-extra.html#h323-conntrack-nat Does that help for now? > If not, any objections to me adding something like "gnugk" to DL? > (The GNU Gatekeeper - http://www.gnugk.org/ ) How can we every object? ;-) -- MfG / Regards Friedrich Lobenstock ____________________________________________________________________ Friedrich Lobenstock Linux Services Lobenstock URL: http://www.lsl.at/ Email: fl...@fl... ____________________________________________________________________ |

I've sent to the mailing list from other email accounts than the one I'm subscribed as, and I've never had a message held or rejected (that I know of). The logical conclusion is there is no restriction on who can send. Is that correct? - BS |

At my local LUG, we're currently building an Asterisk PBX box. One thing that would be useful on our firewall would be a "gatekeeper", for handling incoming H.323/VoIP connections. Does DL currently have anything like that? If not, any objections to me adding something like "gnugk" to DL? (The GNU Gatekeeper - http://www.gnugk.org/ ) - BS |

I had mentioned writing one before, but haven't started on the _web_ interface yet. Instead I'm writing a ncurses setup utility, because for the web interface, you need a network card up and running first. A web interface would be a nice addition, and a logical next step. I've VERY GLAD to see "PHP" listed above. Personally, I wouldn't use anything else to write the web interface. Perhaps we could work together on the web interface? - BS |

This email is to inform you about the release of version '2.01a16' of 'cdrtools' through freshmeat.net. All URLs and other useful information can be found at http://freshmeat.net/projects/cdrecord/ The changes in this release are as follows: A workaround for a Solaris 9 x86 bug that caused libscg to assume too big a possible DMA count was added. A new readcd option was included for allowiing the speed test result be based on a speed factor instead of a transfer rate in kB/s. mkisofs now creates bootable CDs using the ISO-9660:1999 standard. A problem with reading the control file for -sort was corrected. Project description: cdrtools (formerly cdrecord) creates home-burned CDs with a CDR/CDRW recorder. It works as a burn engine for several applications. It supports CD recorders from many different vendors; all SCSI-3/mmc- and ATAPI/mmc-compliant drives should also work. Supported features include IDE/ATAPI, parallel port, and SCSI drives, audio CDs, data CDs, and mixed CDs, full multi-session support, CDRWs (rewritable), TAO, DAO, RAW, and human-readable error messages. cdrtools includes remote SCSI support and can access local or remote CD writers. If you would like to cancel subscription to releases of this project, login to freshmeat.net and choose 'home' from the personal menubar at the top of the page. You'll be presented with a list of projects you're subscribed to in the right column, which you may cancel by highlighting the project in question and clicking the 'delete' button.
