We could, but I don't see what that gains us. The file that needs to be patched is a text file (not a binary), so a re-compile is not necessary. - BS |

Do a "make install" in the build system, and install it in the LFS base? And don't copy anything to the DL CD? One potential problem is we're currently running the latest _stable_ version of bison, so I'd have to install the latest _beta_ release. Are we brave enough to install a beta release of bison in the LFS, considering it is probably used to compile many of our packages? It may be safer to create a build script to copy (or patch) the new /usr/share/bison/yacc.c file into our current release of bison. What do you think? - BS |

OK. Another problem I found, pwlib requires a patch to a bison config file for it to compile (/usr/share/bison/yacc.c - outside of the build tree). How do we handle something like that? - BS |

I have a question about adding this optional package. The GNU-Gatekeeper (gnugk) requires PWLib and the OpenH323 library, which are two separate packages/tar-files. Should I make one menu_add selection for gnugk which selects all three packages? Or should I make three separate menu_add items? This email is to inform you about the release of version '1.7.5' of 'GNU Automake' through freshmeat.net. All URLs and other useful information can be found at http://freshmeat.net/projects/automake/ The changes in this release are as follows: There are new upstream versions of lib/config.guess, lib/config.sub, and lib/texinfo.tex. Some typos in automake.texi were fixed, and a licensing issue resolved. Project description: Automake is a tool for automatically generating Makefiles compliant with the GNU Coding Standards. It was inspired by the 4.4BSD make and include files, but aims to be portable and to conform to the GNU standards for Makefile variables and targets. Automake is a Perl script. The input files are called Makefile.am. The output files are called Makefile.in; They are intended for use with Autoconf. Automake requires certain things to be done in your configure.in. This package also includes the "aclocal" program. aclocal is a program to generate an 'aclocal.m4' based on the contents of 'configure.in'. It is useful as an extensible, maintainable mechanism for augmenting autoconf. This email is to inform you about the release of version '0.99.10' of 'Dovecot' through freshmeat.net. All URLs and other useful information can be found at http://freshmeat.net/projects/dovecot/ The changes in this release are as follows: Faster and better maildir synchronization. Support for read-only mailboxes. ANONYMOUS SASL support. OpenSSL fixes. Many smaller fixes and improvements. Project description: Dovecot is an IMAP server whose major goals are security and extreme reliability. It uses index files to optimally store the mailbox state, which makes it very fast even with huge mailboxes. Indexes won't prevent external mailbox updates, so Dovecot is still fully compatible with standard Maildir and mbox formats. There's also a fully featured POP3 server included. Hi all, Heiko's email about the mistakes in security pointed out problems in PHP. I have been fooling around with AmphetaDesk, a RSS news tool which is in perl and has a tiny perl http server. Webmin, also written in perl, is in wide commercial use, has significant secturity and has a perl httpd server. Python is nice but I never used it because it uses white spaces as part of it OO implementation, which is scary when debugging under pressure. As I mentioned to Bruce it is high time for a new admin scripting language though I am on advocating DL... I am in Utah right now, at a big party in the mountains.. big 20,000 people :) John http://www.itworld.com/AppDev/4072/020301phpflaws/ PHP security flaws affect 1 million Web sites ITworld.com 3/1/02 About 1 million Web sites are vulnerable to attack through recently discovered flaws in the popular PHP (Personal Home Page) scripting language, Web server information firm Netcraft Ltd. said Friday. "A system is only vulnerable when PHP is actually used on a Web site, not when it is installed on the server. Current advisories have not made that especially clear," he said. About 8.4 million Web sites support a vulnerable version of PHP, but only about 1 million of those actually use the scripting language on Web pages, which is what makes them vulnerable, according to Prettejohn. --- Bruce Smith <bw...@ar...> wrote: > > > And according to boa.org, thttpd is "very similar to Boa", and I see we > > > already have thttpd in DL... > > > > So a step closer, > > Why was thttpd originally added to DL? > > > except if John really needs the real apache. > > I hope not. All URLs and other useful information can be found at http://freshmeat.net/projects/distcc/ The changes in this release are as follows: Small portability fixes were made.
