No doubt! :-) The told us they are about 100 years behind in technology in Copper Harbor, with a shortage of phone lines (why they don't have them in the hotel rooms). And said (seriously) that if we were to move to Copper Harbor and wanted a phone in our house, we would have to get on a list and wait for someone to die! My boss is really paranoid about me being gone, so I'm currently equipped with two different kinds of cell phones (w/laptop connections), which may (or may not) have spotty coverage there, and an acoustic coupler for connecting to pay phones! Did you know they still make acoustic couplers? I didn't! And yes, they are still as slow as they used to be ... > >Copper Harbor Michigan. We'd talked about rafting the entire Colorado River through the Grand Canyon (277 miles - 7 days) this fall, but it looks like that'll have to wait another year (at least). Then I'll REALLY be out of touch! Maybe I can get my boss to spring for a satellite phone for that trip. ;-) - BS |

This email is to inform you about the release of version '1.0.0-pre2' of 'BusyBox' through freshmeat.net. All URLs and other useful information can be found at http://freshmeat.net/projects/busybox/ The changes in this release are as follows: This release fixes the problems that have turned up in -pre1. The 'ash' shell has been synced with the Debian 'dash' shell. Lots of docs were added. This release generally polishes things in preparation for 1.0.0. Project description: BusyBox combines tiny versions of many common UNIX utilities into a single small executable. It provides minimalist replacements for most of the utilities you usually find in GNU fileutils, shellutils, etc. The utilities in BusyBox generally have fewer options than their full-featured GNU cousins; however, the options that are included provide the expected functionality and behave very much like their GNU counterparts. BusyBox provides a fairly complete POSIX environment for any small or embedded system. If you would like to cancel subscription to releases of this project, login to freshmeat.net and choose 'home' from the personal menubar at the top of the page. You'll be presented with a list of projects you're subscribed to in the right column, which you may cancel by highlighting the project in question and clicking the 'delete' button. This email is to inform you about the release of version '2.3' of 'Python' through freshmeat.net. All URLs and other useful information can be found at http://freshmeat.net/projects/python/ The changes in this release are as follows: This release combines a select set of language and standard library improvements with a substantial speed boost. Typical Python code runs 15 to 35 percent faster than it did in 2.2. This version also adds boolean and set data types, a source file encoding indicator, zipped code archives, package meta data, extended date/time processing, a logging module, and improved support for several operating systems, including Mac OS X. Project description: Python is an interpreted, interactive, object-oriented programming language. It combines remarkable power with very clear syntax, and isn't difficult to learn. It has modules, classes, exceptions, very high level data types, and dynamic typing. There are interfaces to many system calls and libraries, as well as to various windowing systems (Tk, Mac, MFC, GTK+, Qt, wxWindows). Newbuilt-in modules are easily written in C or C++. Python is also usable as an extension language for applications that need a programmable interface. If you would like to cancel subscription to releases of this project, login to freshmeat.net and choose 'home' from the personal menubar at the top of the page. OK, I started a mrproper earlier (limited selection on software), and tried it when I got home from the LUG meeting. Everything is current on this PC because I ran another cvs update just now, and there were no new updates to be found. I tried the same thing, deleted the files from my floppy and booted the ISO in VMware. It tried to copy the files to floppy, but failed and rebooted. So, let me ask you again, did you try booting yours with a _BLANK_ floppy? Or did you _manually_ copy new files to a floppy? So, I then manually copied the files to my floppy and booted VMware again. This time it booted up without warning to a login prompt! :-) The only problem I see right now is the code that copies the default configs to a blank media. (but I haven't looked very hard either ;) - BS |

As I said, I have a working fresh build here. Could be that you checked out a bit too early, or just because it's raining, or somebody in China fall off his bike, or..... cya Heiko = |

Try passing init=3D option to kernel. I slowly get all the emails you sent today... That happens when you don't administrate everything yourself. ;-) cya Heiko = |

It finds an empty floppy, and asks to copy the config to it, and then it can't find /cdrom and auto reboots. Then I manually copied etc_tar.bz2 & var_tar.bz2 to floppy, and rebooted. It got farther, but couldn't find files: /etc/init.d/functions /etc/sysconfig/config /etc/sysconfig/software Then it couldn't find inittab, it ask me to enter a runlevel, I entered "3", and it died with no processes left in the runlevel. At least the kernel isn't crashing any longer. ;-) I'd take a look and try to fix some of it now, but I've got to head off to my weekly LUG meeting ... maybe tomorrow. - BS |

Nah, not this time anyway. This problem exists in email-hell. I sent an message about this early this morning which didn't come through until just recently (out of order. So it only _appears_ like I said your latest fix didn't work. :-) Your latest update to e2fsprogs works fine, thank you. HOWEVER, I still can't boot the ISO. I'm still getting: Kernel panic: No init found. Try passing init= option to kernel. Any clue? - BS |

I'm currently working on 2 system where I wiped out the lfssystem yeste= rday (including mrproper) and e2fsprogs compiles fine. So I would expect that the problem is on your side, it could be a "pebk= ac" error. Heiko P.S. Problem Exists Between Keyboard And Chair ;-) = |

Update from CVS, it's fixed there. Heiko = |
