This email is to inform you about the release of version '2.01a24' of 'cdrtools' through freshmeat.net. All URLs and other useful information can be found at http://freshmeat.net/projects/cdrecord/ The changes in this release are as follows: This version adds a workaround to allow suid root installations to work again on Solaris 9. It fixes a bug in the Mac OS X low level SCSI code. There is the first experimental SCSI SPTI support for Windows NT. This version also fixes a bug that prevented cdrecord -toc to work on CD-ROM drives. The cdrecord CUE sheet handling code now includes PATH search. A bug in mkisofs Rock Ridge handling that caused an endless loop in multi session mode under some conditions was fixed. Project description: cdrtools (formerly cdrecord) creates home-burned CDs with a CDR/CDRW recorder. It works as a burn engine for several applications. It supports CD recorders from many different vendors; all SCSI-3/mmc- and ATAPI/mmc-compliant drives should also work. Supported features include IDE/ATAPI, parallel port, and SCSI drives, audio CDs, data CDs, and mixed CDs, full multi-session support, CDRWs (rewritable), TAO, DAO, RAW, and human-readable error messages. cdrtools includes remote SCSI support and can access local or remote CD writers. This email is to inform you about the release of version '1.3.4' of 'Linux-VServer' through freshmeat.net. All URLs and other useful information can be found at http://freshmeat.net/projects/vserver/ The changes in this release are as follows: This version basically is a cleanup of the Immutable Link Invert code, which from now on shall be known as 'Immutable Unlink'. Support for XFS was added to the ck1 version, and a small change was made to the vserver userspace helper interface. Project description: Linux-VServer allows you to create virtual private servers and security contexts which operate like a normal Linux server, but allow many independent servers to be run simultaneously in one box at full speed. All services, such as ssh, mail, Web, and databases, can be started on such a VPS, without modification, just like on any real server. Each virtual server has its own user account database and root password and doesn't interfere with other virtual servers. When you run into compile problems, first disable ET_DYN (the command for this is disable_et_dyn) and next would be to disable SSP (which is a bit more tricky and depends on the package). -- Regards Heiko Zuerker http://www.devil-linux.org |

If a new package is added to the build, will it get compiled with the gcc stack protector by default? Or does it need to get added to the make file or some script? Also, does grsecurity need anything done to protect the new package? Thanks- Tim |

> i was surprised to hear that you're working/backporting things to dl1.0. > aren't users upgrading to latest cvs' version? 1.0 is the latest stable version. It still needs to have security and bug fixes. The average user should be using the 1.0 version. 1.1 is the development version, and may not always be completely stable. All new features and major changes go into 1.1, and it takes awhile to get all the bugs out. 1.0 only gets fixes, so it remains stable. Think of it like the Linux kernel. 2.5 is the development version, and at the same time 2.4 is still being maintained. Most end users are still using 2.4.
