Read and respond to this message at: https://sourceforge.net/forum/message.php?msg_id=4326143 By: bidevi I hope nobody starts looking for ddclient on the openSUSE 10.2 installation disk, because it isn't there (yet), despite what you might think reading info on the Novell website. For openSUSE 10.2 you need this version: ddclient-3.7.0. It may be downloaded from the sourceforge.net webpage. Get the tar file, forget about the rpm file you can find on the internet. I tried to install the rpm file online using the Zen-installer and got congratulated with a message saying installation had been succesful but in fact nothing had happened. Follow the README instructions in the ddclient-3.7.0 folder. One line in the README file says: For those using Redhat style rc files (...). I assumed that this was what I needed and followed the instructions, but on SuSE the given path didn't work. I used the following path: cp sample-etc_init.d_ddclient /etc/init.d/ddclient ddclient is running now and I hope it'll stay up. ______________________________________________________________________ You are receiving this email because you elected to monitor this forum. Read and respond to this message at: https://sourceforge.net/forum/message.php?msg_id=4326013 By: bidevi Thanks for your help, Wimpunk. I wanted to install the default ddclient package, but where is it? I couldn't find it any where. Maybe it's because I'm new to Linux, SuSE and ddclient? Any help would be welcome here. ______________________________________________________________________ You are receiving this email because you elected to monitor this forum. Read and respond to this message at: https://sourceforge.net/forum/message.php?msg_id=4325990 By: wimpunk It's pretty hard to give support to the init-scripts since they change for every distribution and even differs per version. I would suggest you to install the default ddclient package and eventually replace the ddclient program with a more recent version. ______________________________________________________________________ You are receiving this email because you elected to monitor this forum. Read and respond to this message at: https://sourceforge.net/forum/message.php?msg_id=4325742 By: bidevi OS: openSUSE 10.2 ddclient: version 3.7.1 Obviously I did something right when installing ddclient, because when I startup the computer and ask for: /etc/init.d/ddclient status the reply is: ddclient (pid 2430) is running. When I type: /etc/init.d/ddclient stop I get: Shutting down ddclient: ddclient is not running Then I type: /etc/init.d/ddclient start and I get: Starting ddclient Next: /etc/init.d/ddclient status reply: ddclient is stopped Same result after su. I restart the computer /etc/init.d/ddclient status reply: ddclient (pid 2438) is running So I can start ddclient at boot-up, stop it in terminal, but not restart it. What could be wrong? Thanx in advance for your help. ______________________________________________________________________ You are receiving this email because you elected to monitor this forum. Read and respond to this message at: https://sourceforge.net/forum/message.php?msg_id=4316938 By: edmdude Here's a simple fix I did to get this working with Namecheap. In /usr/sbin/ddclient, change the following 2 lines in nic_namecheap_update from: $url .= "?host=$config{$h}{'login'}"; $url .= "&domain=$h"; to: $url .= "?host=$h"; $url .= "&domain=$config{$h}{'login'}"; Now in your ddclient.conf set your Namecheap protocol to: ## ## NameCheap (namecheap.com) ## protocol=namecheap, \ server=dynamicdns.park-your-domain.com, \ login=example.com, \ password=XXXXXXXXXXX \ @ www * mail etc ______________________________________________________________________ You are receiving this email because you elected to monitor this forum. Hello, I am using ddclient to make update my IP DDNS (www.dyndns.org) and is functioning well: immediately afterwards the command “host <name>” returns the current IP correctly, but “ping <name>” is returning an old IP (not same of host command), despite waits the entire day. In Windows XP ping returns the new IP soon after update in dyndns. What it can be happening in the Linux? (Mandriva 2007) With best regards, Paulo Nievierowski |

Read and respond to this message at: https://sourceforge.net/forum/message.php?msg_id=4291124 By: yath Output is here: http://ddclient.pastebin.co.uk/13883 I had SSL enabled but my system doesn't have the module. To answer other questions, I had downloaded ddclient directly and not used the package. Possibly if I had used the package, Perl's SSL module would have been installed as well? Running it as -daemon 0 was what revealed the error message. I believe an error message should have been visible, even though I was running it with -daemon 300. ______________________________________________________________________ You are receiving this email because you elected to monitor this forum. Read and respond to this message at: https://sourceforge.net/forum/message.php?msg_id=4290191 By: yath The following occurs with ddclient version 3.7.1 on Ubuntu 7.04. The commands are executed as root. I set up ddclient and at first couldn't tell if it was doing anything. I would run: # ddclient -daemon 300 -syslog # I get back the prompt... ok fine. # ps -C ddclient PID TTY TIME CMD # It isn't running. # cat /var/run/ddclient.pid 7568 # ps 7568 PID TTY TIME CMD # It left a pid file, but.. definitely not running. # grep ddclient /var/log/syslog # No log entries. # ls -l /var/cache/ddclient/ddclient.cache ls: /var/cache/ddclient: No such file or directory # The cache directory doesn't exist. Hmm. So I went ahead and created the cache directory and tried again. Everything was the same as before. And though the cache directory existed this time, nothing was written in it. So I try the verbose switch. # ddclient -verbose -daemon 300 -syslog # ps -C ddclient PID TTY TIME CMD # grep ddclient /var/log/syslog May 1 22:40:22 localhost ddclient[7568]: CONNECT: checkip.dyndns.org May 1 22:40:22 localhost ddclient[7568]: CONNECTED: using HTTP May 1 22:40:22 localhost ddclient[7568]: SENDING: GET / HTTP/1.0 May 1 22:40:22 localhost ddclient[7568]: SENDING: Host: checkip.dyndns.org May 1 22:40:22 localhost ddclient[7568]: SENDING: User-Agent: ddclient/3.7.1 May 1 22:40:22 localhost ddclient[7568]: SENDING: Connection: close May 1 22:40:22 localhost ddclient[7568]: SENDING: May 1 22:40:22 localhost ddclient[7568]: RECEIVE: HTTP/1.1 200 OK^M May 1 22:40:22 localhost ddclient[7568]: RECEIVE: Content-Type: text/html^M May 1 22:40:22 localhost ddclient[7568]: RECEIVE: Server: DynDNS-CheckIP/0.2^M May 1 22:40:22 localhost ddclient[7568]: RECEIVE: Connection: close^M May 1 22:40:22 localhost ddclient[7568]: RECEIVE: Cache-Control: no-cache^M May 1 22:40:22 localhost ddclient[7568]: RECEIVE: Pragma: no-cache^M May 1 22:40:22 localhost ddclient[7568]: RECEIVE: Content-Length: 106^M May 1 22:40:22 localhost ddclient[7568]: RECEIVE: ^M May 1 22:40:22 localhost ddclient[7568]: RECEIVE: <html><head><title>Current IP Check</title></head><body>Current IP Address: xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx/body></html>^M May 1 22:40:22 localhost ddclient[7568]: INFO: forcing updating XXXXXXXXXXXXXX because no cached entry exists. But I do not know why it then terminates, nor why it fails to write a cache file. In addition to the above, I added the -debug switch. However, there was no additional output. I would be happy to take additional steps to see why it is behaving this way. I don't think ddclient is usable in this state, as I can't just run it as a cron job - it will force an update on every execution. ______________________________________________________________________ You are receiving this email because you elected to monitor this forum. Hello, It has much time use the DynDns services in Windows, but now it appeared the necessity to work in Linux and I chose the DDClient. I configured it to use method CHECKIP, but the gotten IP is not being sent for Dyndns.org for publication in net, as extract of log(cache): ## ddclient-3.7.1 ## last updated at Fri Apr 27 00:26:12 2007 (1177644372) atime=1177644372,backupmx=0,custom=0,host=paulonki.selfip.info,ip=, mtime=0,mx=,static=0,status=nohost,warned-min-error-interval=0, warned-min-interval=0,wildcard=0,wtime=0 paulonki.selfip.info It sees that parameter IP= is empty. The site http://checkip.dyndns.com answers “Current IP address: xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx” and in the configuration models that I found is used only the expression “IP address” for skip. I tested the two forms but I did not get resulted. Below sending the configuration that I am using for evaluation. daemon=300 syslog=yes mail=root mail-failure=root pid=/var/run/ddclient.pid cache=/etc/ddclient/ddclient.cache use=web, web=checkip.dyndns.com/, web-skip='IP Address' protocol=dyndns2 server=members.dyndns.org login=xxxxxxxxx password=xxxxxxxxx server=members.dyndns.org, \ protocol=dyndns2 \ paulonki.selfip.info What it is made a error? How to solve? With best regards, Paulo |

Read and respond to this message at: https://sourceforge.net/forum/message.php?msg_id=4277671 By: wimpunk Could add the firmware version info to your patch on http://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=detail&aid=1706414&group_id=116817 &atid=676130? It reminds me I should add a patches section directly to the ddclient website... Tnx again. ______________________________________________________________________ You are receiving this email because you elected to monitor this forum. Could you either send me the patch directly or (better) add it to the patch-section on http://sourceforge.net/tracker/?group_id=116817&atid=676130 Tnx, wimpunk. ______________________________________________________________________ You are receiving this email because you elected to monitor this forum. Read and respond to this message at: https://sourceforge.net/forum/message.php?msg_id=4259160 By: wimpunk I'm not completely sure but as far as I remember, it just doesn't work. You can only update multiple addresses if they use the same ip. The work around for this issue is easy: just run multiple ddclient instances. I'm sorry, wimpunk. ______________________________________________________________________ You are receiving this email because you elected to monitor this forum. Read and respond to this message at: https://sourceforge.net/forum/message.php?msg_id=4258210 By: bbell I'm having difficulty with my ddclient configuration. It's always worked well for just a single host. Now I'm trying to update two DynDNS entries, where each one is for a different interface. That is, foo.homeip.net is for the IP address on eth1, and bar.homeip.net is for the IP address on tun0. I guess the first thing I should do is verify: can I do this with a single ddclient.conf file? I thought so, but it doesn't seem to be working. >From the debug output, if seems that the use=if and if=tun0 settings are global, so if=tun0 replaces if=eth0, and both hostnames get the IP from tun0. This is with all lines listed "by themselves". If I link the lines for each configuration together (with a trailing "\"), then ddclient doesn't update the IP address at all. In that case, it says: "get_ip: using ip, ip reports <undefined>". I've pasted the non-commented part of my normal config file to http://ddclient.pastebin.co.uk/12882. I've also tried without any trailing ", \", and I've tried with a trailing " \" after the password lines. No combination seems to work. I could really appreciate a hand here. Thanks. ______________________________________________________________________ You are receiving this email because you elected to monitor this forum. Read and respond to this message at: https://sourceforge.net/forum/message.php?msg_id=4255048 By: bgraabek ddclient v3.7.2 The first time I run ddclient it works fine. Second run returns an error.
