Hello to all, Hello Wimpunk, I would like to ask how reliable the option "use=web" is. I am asking you this because I only found two sites wich display the current ip adress of the cient. So if myip.dnsdynamic.org and ip.changeip.com are down (it could happen) and there is no local method for viewing the ip... ddclient cannot update himself! So i would like to ask if it would be possible to extract the information of a webpage saving only the ip (v4 or v6) in ddclientso that also other pages as http://checkip.dns.he.net/ could work. I would like to say "thank you" in advance and escuses for my bad english. Hoping hearing from you, Alex |

Hello there, I am not sure how to communicate a few things I changed up for DDClient to work on my setup, so I am sending an e-mail to this list. Additions are very small indeed, and done on 3.8.1, so new version may be different a bit. I am running openSuse 13.1. I apologize for not creating a patch, I think that would be an overkill :) First off, I have a linksys router running DD-WRT firmware, and since there was no explicit support that I could find, I modified ddclient directly to add the following in the devices array: ========================================== 'dd-wrt' => { 'name' => 'DD-WRT Firmware routers', 'url' => '/', 'skip' => 'IP: ', }, ========================================= The landing page of the router is a public info page, and contains wan IP, behind the only instance of string "IP: xxx...". I have tested this on my router only, so you may want to confirm this with some other DD-WRT users. In order to use this, the ddclient.conf file simply specifies: =============================== use=dd-wrt, fw=172.21.1.254:80 =============================== Second, zoneedit.com changed their update interface, and while changes are already accounted for in 3.8.1 of ddclient, "https" is not. ZoneEdit enabled https only, so URL needs to specify this as well. For my purpose, I have updated "nic_zoneedit1_update" function, and have changed http to https in the following code: ========================= my $url = ''; $url .= "https://$config{$h}{'server'}/auth/dynamic.html"; $url .= "?host=$hosts"; $url .= "&dnsto=$ip" if $ip; $url .= "&zone=$config{$h}{'zone'}" if defined $config{$h}{'zone'}; ========================= I am sure this is not the best solution, but forcing ssl use through ddclient.conf param "ssl=yes" did not work for me, and I did not really want to spend time debugging it :) That is all I have, thanks for your time, and thank you for creating and maintaining an excellent dynamic update client! I also wanted notifications, but only for failures to connect to the IP checking website and anytime the IP address was updated (either a forced no-change 25 day update or an actual change). So I'm running with the patch you can find here: https://gist.github.com/mackyle/e11f34a92b53b07c8caf And then in my ddclient.conf I do NOT set the "mail" variable, but I DO set the mail-failure variable and I get the updates I want without the endless other emails that I do not. Hi, To get yet your mail working, you could try to send an email using the ddclient post-script option. After my ddclient finishes updating my favorite service, I do some extra tricks using the postscript and the script mails me the result. On 07/25/14 04:48, nu...@ea... wrote: > Hmmm, not having any luck stopping all emails from being sent in favor of > getting just those when the WAN IP address changes. Looking at the code of ddclient it sends all the updates to mail adres, and if the update failed, it sends the updates to the mail-failure address. If you really only want a messages when updating was done, you should use a post-script. Ddclient currently has no option to send only correct updates. Maybe I should add that to the documentation. If you want a feature sending you a mail when ddclient updates, you could try to find a perl developer to implement this feature. > > And now it appears ddclient is failing to sense the noip.com IP address is > different from the web IP address it's detecting. :-| > > I manually changed the noip.com FQND IP address in their web site to verify > that ddclient will change it, but no go. No, that's not the way ddclient works. Ddclient verifies the ip with the one in its own cache before it decides to update. > > Is there *any* way for the developer to join me in resolving these issues. > It's holding up deployment. I'm completely willing to pay/donate/shout > accolades from top of mountains. :-) > If you find any perl developer, he can submit new patches if needed. I'm trying to support ddclient with my best effort, and from time to time, others in this list do the same. Btw, I hope you're using the paid version of no-ip because they fail big time when you're using an automatic updater on their free service. If you want support about updating no-ip you could try a new tread about your problem and add no-ip to the subject. As far as I know, there is a no-ip developer following the list for this kind of issues. > Thanks! > > > > -----Original Message----- > From: wimpunk [mailto:wi...@us...] > Sent: Monday, July 21, 2014 12:22 AM > To: ddc...@li... > Subject: Re: [Ddclient-support] -{no}quiet send email > > On 07/20/14 23:42, nu...@ea... wrote: >> Thanks for the terrific program! Hmmm, not having any luck stopping all emails from being sent in favor of getting just those when the WAN IP address changes. And now it appears ddclient is failing to sense the noip.com IP address is different from the web IP address it's detecting. :-| I manually changed the noip.com FQND IP address in their web site to verify that ddclient will change it, but no go. Oddly, ddclient query and IP check displays the proper WAN IP address, but it's not seeing it's different than the IP address that noip.com has and shows up when performing a ping -a fdqn. Is there *any* way for the developer to join me in resolving these issues. It's holding up deployment. I'm completely willing to pay/donate/shout accolades from top of mountains. :-) Thanks! -----Original Message----- From: wimpunk [mailto:wi...@us...] Sent: Monday, July 21, 2014 12:22 AM To: ddc...@li... Thanks for the terrific program! It's a wonderful help! I'm trying to get ddclient to send an email when the IP address changes. Testing shows that -debug and -verbose must be in the OPTIONS statement, but -noquiet and -quiet have no effect on whether or not an email gets sent. Is there a proper way to configure ddclient options so email is sent only when the IP address changes? Thanks again! |

There used to be a developer mailing list but because they both weren't used very much, I decided to only use the support mailing list. I think there were two reasons why I started using github for keeping the code. It has a very easy way to create pull requests and I discovered a few repositories out there which were based on ddclient but were different imports. I've been thinking of moving completely to github because sf.net announced the ending of the trac environment. Fortunately they didn't closed the service that fast. Sf created a way to move to their allura environment which kept the history still accessible. That must have been the moment I decided to stay on sf.net. Some people just doesn't like the fact they have to register on sf.net to use it and ratter create pull requests on github. Although maybe I could better switch to git on sf.net, I currently don't have any problems with maintaining them both. Kind regards, wimpunk. |

I get the following error in syslog: file /var/cache/ddclient/ddclient.cache, line 1: program version mismatch; ignoring /var/cache/ddclient/ddclient.cache ddclient is properly updating the DDNS record. I installed the Ubuntu repository version of ddclient (3.8.0) and then downloaded the 3.8.2 tar.gz and copied and pasted the contents of ddclient into the /usr/sbin/ddclient and only changed the location of ddclient.conf since it's different in Ubuntu from the tar.gz. Not a big deal, but would be nice to make the warning go away. Alternatively, if someone knows of an up-to-date PPA, that would be great. Thanks, Paul |

Hi all, Am I the only one thouroughly confused by the duplication of web content, ticketing system, and source code, on both SF.net and Github? Is there a specific reason for that? I would suggest to fully do the move to Github and make the SF.net website just point to Github (keeping only the mailing list on SF.net). Or the other way around, if you prefer old-school. But have just one place people have to monitor and look at when they want to contribute to ddclient or figure out how to submit patches. Just a thought. -- Daniel Roethlisberger http://daniel.roe.ch/ |

Yes, I can support it on a «best effort» basis, feel free to forward requests to me. That will also motivate me to improve the nsupdate specific documentation if there are too many «how do I configure this» requests. -Daniel -- Daniel Roethlisberger http://daniel.roe.ch/ |

If the problem is the lack of a testing environment, I can provide test zones with dynamic update capability to interested developers. FWIW, I had this patch in production at one site for three weeks without issues so far. -- Daniel Roethlisberger http://daniel.roe.ch/ |

I got a bounce notification when sending my previous answer. I hope sf.net fixed the issue now. Hi, It should check its IP against the cached version and only commit the detected IP if it differs from the cached version or if the latest update was long ago (based on max-interval). It looks like you either have a cache or a configuration problem. Regards, wimpunk.
