most new machines these days (especially laptops) don't have floppy drives.

dban requires users to have a floppy in a floppy drive to log to. a poor requirement for new machines.

in fact, dban refuses to let you do anything (get to menus, etc) without a logging floppy.

should I make this a bug report?

The DBAN 2.0 release logs to any removable media, and it should behave altogether better on computers without floppy drives.

If the problem persists with the latest posted DBAN beta or the DBAN 2.0 releases, then please reopen this ticket as a bug.

I have no way to build 2.0.0 - please make an ISO available for x86 boxen so I can test.

as the title states, I wanted logging to be *optional*, not mandatory. I don't want to have to get out a floppy every time I wipe a disk. The only reason I would want logging is if I maybe want a bad block map.

it is impossible to build 2.0.0 on an XP box. I have DJGPP for DOS and the GNU toolset for Windows, but Windows has a 2048-character-per-line limitation which your makefiles seem to break. your build system seems to be oriented toward UNIX systems (you could have said that).

as such, I am awaiting your ISO.
