To resolve the issue where DBAN (Darik's Boot and Nuke) won't run after the boot prompt screen, one possible approach is to try running a bright white screen test, like the one provided by White Screen.. This can help you identify any display-related issues, such as dead pixels or uneven backlighting, that might be interfering with DBAN's display. If the screen test doesn't reveal any issues, it may be necessary to troubleshoot other hardware or software problems related to DBAN's boot process. Any...

The laptop boots from the USB flash drive, and I know the DBAN copy is good because it worked on the first laptop. However, no matter which option I choose (autonuke, dodshort, etc.), it only shows a brief message at the bottom saying "loading dban.bzi......" before going to a blank black screen. Looks like you've got the ISO mounted as a virtual drive. Look in your My Computer window, you might see you have an extra drive like E: or F: Right-click the drive, you should now have an "Unmount" option You'll be able to delete the ISO then.

Yes sir, it is harder on the disks (because of the multi-pass erasure) but if you have sensitive information on those disks it's smarter to use DBAN then to just throw them away or give them away to a recycling center or otherwise. If you use DBAN, even on the quick erase setting; it's much more effective then physical destruction.

For those wanting to wipe SSD's, use the manufacturers ATA secure erase program or hdparm etc. However having said that, if you are paranoid about wiping your data, you could use ShredOS 2020 select "Fill with Ones" method, switch off blanking (which then refills with zeros, not what you want) and select verify last pass only. DO NOT select the DOD method or any other multi pass methods and only select one round. Keep it to a maximum of one write pass, It's a waste of time and electricity to do any...

DBAN is not supported, use ShredOS 2020. Shredos runs nwipe, nwipe is dwipe's maintained version. Shredos/nwipe will wipe hardware that just isn't supported by DBAN. Looks like a bug in DBAN. Use ShredOS 2020 instead. Download 64bit .img for flash drive Legacy Bios and UEFI Download 64bit .img for .iso CD/DVD Legacy Bios only.

I know this is an old thread but I feel it's time it was updated.. so here goes. While nwipe was once the same as DBAN or to be more accurate dwipe, Nwipe has had many changes to it's code and many fixes to bugs that were present in the original dwipe code. Just one of those bugs in DBAN that was not discovered until recently, was that while DBAN gives you the option of the ISSAC PRNG, it doesn't actually work!. Instead DBAN runs the Mersenne Twister PRNG irrespective of the PRNG option chosen. In...

Hello, I would like to ask how can a certified program (Blancco) could provide erasure certification on a computer that fails to power on, due to hardware problem (e.g. motherboard is dead). Thank you, Dimitris P.

I was having a similar issue and found that Dban does not work with ssds. Is it possible the hard drives you are trying to wipe are ssds? Instead I used Shred OS which can be found here: https://github.com/PartialVolume/shredos.x86_64/blob/master/README.md#obtaining-and-writing-shredos-to-a-usb-flash-drive-the-easy-way-

I wanted to use DBAN to wipe several external drives. However, I mounted it directly from the downloads folder. Not only could I not get it to work for the external drives, now it won't unmount. As can be seen in the screenshot, it says that it is running in system. I tried using the Taskmanager to end it after rebooting, that didn't work. I also am very afraid that it will delete my hard drive. Does anyone know how to unmount and delete it off of my hard drive...? TIA
