When I first set up davmail I set the "folder size limit" in the advanced settings to 1000, thinking that this would make testing quicker since I have a lot of mail. This worked fine, but now I'd like to increase the limit. Setting it to a higher value doesn't seem to affect the number of messages I can see, though. I'm still stuck at 1000. Is there something I need to do to make davmail notice the new setting?

You probably need to touch the target folder (just mark a message read or move a message to/from the folder to trigger a folder reload with new setting.

Another approach would be to purge IMAP cache on the client side.

I've tried marking all messages read, and I've tried moving messages to and from the folder, but thunderbird still sees only 1000 messages, even after restarting. How should I go about clearing the IMAP cache?

Are you 100% sure you changed folder size limit in DavMail settings ?
Did you try to restart DavMail and Thunderbird after the change ?
IMAP cache is under ImapMail in your Thunderbird profile folder.

    Hi Michael,

I've checked and double-checked. The folder size limit is

set to 2000. I've stopped davmail, stopped thunderbird, and then
started both again. I also upgraded from davmail 5.2 to 5.3.
Still, I only see the latest 1000 messages. I've tried moving
messages and marking them read again, too.

I tried clearing Thunderbird's cache, but that didn't

change anything. Does davmail have its own cache?

                    Thanks,
                    Bryan

Weird, I can confirm DavMail does not have any persistent message cache.

    Hi Mickael,

I have the same problem. It doesn't seem to be a caching issue, because if I remove the limit, Thunderbird sees all messages in the folder again. But I set the limit again to any value > 1000 (e.g. 5000), Thunderbird stops at 1000 messages, regardless. Is there a hard limit of 1000 in the code, maybe for performance reasons?

    Regards,
    Adrian

No, there is no such limit. Looks like a client side issue, not clear though.

Somehow the server side limit must break client side IMAP state.
=> the easier workaround is probably to recreate mailbox config in Thunderbird.

I am having exact same problem with davmail+mbsync+mu4e, any idea how to solve this?

      Hi Justin,

Sorry, I eventually just gave up and learned to live with it. Please let me know if you come across a solution.
