At the moment encrypted archives are not supported, but this feature is
already on my todo list.
I will try to cache this case, or better implement this feature soon.

I tested the GUI also with openSUSE 13.1 running as a KDE Desktop and
the GUI is full functional,
beside a small bug which turned out as a qt feature, but I have worked
around this so it's is no problem any more.
There should be no gnome dependency. You only need the GTK framework and
gtkmm,
which is a C ++ wrapper around GTK to provide an object-oriented
programming interface.
Which desktop environment are you using? XFCE, MATE, ...
Can you run gdar from command-line. Are there any warnings or errors
printed while runtime regarding GTK?
I would like to fix this problem, its likely that you are not the only
one who feels not so familiar with Gnome 3.

Yea, the switch is a little bit tricky. It's meant to display hidden files.
It should be documented in the README in section manual.
When you have an idea to make this feature more intuitive, let me know.

Thank you very much for your support.
I'm proud to announce the new homepage about gdar:
https://peckto.github.io/gdar/
It would be really nice if you could send a note about my project to
dar-news.
Through the program is in beta state, it would be nice to have some
bug-reports :-).
For the link on your documentation I think it would be the best to await
the release 1.0.
Further more I plan to submit gdar to the package repositories of well
known Linux distributions.
The spec file for rpm packages is almost ready and waits for gdar v1.0
to be released.
While the packages for Ubuntu and Debian take a little bit more time,
since they have problems with the 64Bit release of libdar or provide an
too old version.
I will query the responsible package maintainer for an update.
