SupportedDevices

Introduction

The audio driver is now based on a method that is a little bit more official (using java api). So it should now work on almost all devices.

However there is some restrictions :

Known incompatibility

  • Some armv4 based devices - If you own an armv4t device and want to help us to support it, please send us the "device" name : install an application such as DeviceInfo to get this information (that's a string that allow to determine which device it's exactly).

There is also some audio routing issues

It can produce echo if routed to rear speaker or no sound at all.

  • Galaxy S (not able to change volume see  issue 254 )
  • Sony X10 / X10 mini (micro record both mic+line : everything spread through speaker is recorded directly by the micro...)
  • Samsung i5500 (route to rear speaker :  issue 258 )

Most of the time for this issue, manufacturer is to blame (and maybe also android that doesn't define clearly to manufacturer what should be done). So be indulgent with android sip applications : solving this kind of issues, is finding a workaround to make things working with a crappy implementation. It can take a lot of time, and having a device to test on is quietly indispensable to be able to really solve this kind of problem... So can take time to solve it.

I like it better than sipdroid since it integrates into the native dialing app much nicer. We are using Google Voice and sipgate/gizmo5 (I had an account) to make free calls on wifi. I was having problems with sipdroid and sipgate, but this app seems to work just fine.

audio is possible and quality is ok both ways on armv4t openmoko freerunner. there is only one issue which is that the latency between audio is spoken and received is quite high.

Besides for Archos5IT, I have a custom build that integrate better with contact app. Check on download section & check the tutorial about HowToInstallDevVersion. I'll try to publish this version on the appslibs as soon as possible.

Since, 1. Csipsimple works on Galaxy S with 2.1, 2. I checked with other SHW-M130K phones even at Samsung offical service center and all of them did not work, 3. The provider did not block Voip calls via 3G,

it seems that it is Froyo causes the problem. Would you please check? Might cause the same problem when Galaxy S phones get froyo. I will send you the device information.

It's automatically done on nexus one, desire, evo (and in the future desire hd & desire z... that seems to have the problem too). But seems to be also present on Wildfire. Could you give me what is the "device" name using "device info" app for example (available on the market) So that I could automatically turn the workaround on for this device?

I'm wondering if I should not blacklist all the HTC devices excepted Dream, Magic, Hero & Tatoo... Would be easier for me than increasing the list of unsupported devices like that since all their new device seems to be impacted by this bug. (And it's actually a bug in HTC, there is an open bug on the android project for Nexus One & Desire)

There are still a few problems with the UI (like ringing but not displaying the answer screen and closing the program removing the tray icon when set to permanent) but still very good. Keep up the good work!

Only has two issues so far that I can see. 1) Always uses speaker instead of handset (but I believe this is a manufacturer issue) and 2) Despite the setting to ask whether to use SIP or mobile provider to make a call, it always uses SIP. But by far the best voip app I've tried and I've tried about 6 incuding 3cX, sipdroid etc etc.
