This would also allow to use cryptsync on a linux server, eg, ftp folder with backup support

I would like this too. I realize that other options exist on linux (namely encfs). I've used both, and I like cryptsync a lot better. It seems a tad faster and I like that my files are just plain old 7z files that I can open with 7z whenever I want. Encfs just feels to opaque.
